Dirk's fault. He must have slept with RC's wife or something.

JJ tries to do too much in crunch time. I thought we already fixed this problem.

Another choke job by the Mavs and another nationally televised 4th quarter disappearing act by Dirk. For me, this is about as bad as it gets for the regular season

Dirk didn't disappear, the team ignored him. And "another"? He's top 5 in the NBA in gamewinners and 4th quarter scoring this year, STFU.

dirk has ALWAYS dominated the suns and had huge games against them especially in the 4th quarter. WHY WHY WHY would you not put the ball in his hands? this game was a disaster and some people need to get chewed out over it.

He disappeared. Whether you want to say he "was disappeared" by someone else or not is up to you. But he certainly wasn't helping his gamewinners and 4th quarter scoring averages here. The only thing he was helping was trade rumors for teammates.

If anyone was expecting Marion to turn into an offensive force in crunch time, then the disappointment over the loss is their own fault.

IMO Marion missed too many shots he shouldn't have, the game was fine, and yes Dirk shouldn't have to beg for the ball in crunch time or at any time for that matter, but in a move that can get my ass flamed, I don't think Barea is to blame, he gave Marion a few nice opportunities which Marion failed to capitalize on... just my thoughts.

I still think Dirk is the only superstar in basketball that can't get a touch with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

People can go to every excuse in the book for him, his team mates, and coach, but this is a legitimate hall of famer that could not get a touch. Forget about putting up a shot, he couldn't even get his hands on the basketball. Just think about that for a second. At some point you find a way to get your hands on that basketball. If we're going to rely on JJB and Marion in the crunch, then.. good luck.

Why was Barea in at crunch time???? Why was the whole team going away from Dirk???? Feed the beast, don't just leave em out there watching. But then again Dirk should've demanded the ball. Sometimes Carlisle just puzzles me with his strategy and lineups, very frustrating to watch.

Most of the shots Marion miss he makes most of the time, do you see how close Marion was to the basket and still miss?.....who would you rather have on the court in crunch time Marion or Howard?

Barea is so poor defensively. Going under the screen against Nash? Are you serious? Why no Beaubois in the second half? Carlisle never learns I guess.

everyone played poorly.

dirk was having to work too hard to get open, because he was being fronted and they had a guy right behind him to take away the lob pass to him. There were chances there at times, but honestly Dirk in double coverage versus Marion single covered two feet from the basket, or wide open 3's from Jason Kidd... Those guys have got to make those shots so teams don't sell out against him.

I think we should have left Damp in and run our offensive sets. When Dirk's being played like that, we need Damp in there to get him open with screens, or to force a defender down low so we can run the Terry-Dirk two man game at the elbow-extended.

Just piss poor offensive execution down the stretch. Either find a way to get the ball to Dirk, or make the open shot.

But it's one bad night at the end of feb. against a playoff team on the road. Bitter pill to swallow but let's move past it.

Yeah too much Gooden and Dirk at center. This team just can't play without Dampier. We don't have that player that can break down defensives off the dribble or they do it enough to go small. Small ball isn't effective without a player like Nash to do that.

A picture's worth a thousand words. The Suns' defense (whatever that is...) was all over Dirk in the 4th quarter and no one took advantage of it. I'm not saying that Dirk couldn't have been more decisive and demanding of the ball, but a team that is relying on its star to win almost every single game and doesn't have a true second scorer and go-to guy in those situations is in trouble.

Josh has reached a point where Carlisle prefers playing JJB over him in crunch time. It's just sad. Not that there weren't other problems in this game, obviously, but Josh's decline is mind-boggling.

If you go through your whole bag of tricks, including 3 guard midget ball, and getting everyone on the court open looks and nothing has worked, and you've thrown everything out there and it hasn't worked, then you throw the kitchen sink and the octopus on the floor, and you get to the bottom of your bag, and that's where you find the "force the ball through Dirk Nowitzki" play, only after the game is over, you are an idiot. Everyone involved in that is an idiot. Everyone.

Gee...whiz. How quickly we forget the stat about Dirk having more clutch gamewinners than anyone else in the NBA--and yes, that includes Kobe and all the other Hall of Famers--over the last several years.

Try to keep things in perspective. Dirk gets his hands on the ball plenty enough in the endgame. Tonight no...but on the whole he most certainly does. I hardly have to think even three weeks to remember a handful of times where Dirk carried us in the clutch. Enough with the all-or-nothing attitude. Because I'm here to tell you, Kobe certainly isn't all-or-nothing either.

In fact, I'd say that anytime you find yourself having to "rely on" just one player to carry you over the course of the entire last five minutes or so, you have already put yourself up against it.

Rick Carlisle putting Barea on Nash is really Carlisle's fault. Everyone knows that's a huge mismatch. I know a player on the bench that can play some good defense against Nash. And Marion is so limited on offense. No range. I remember he used to have a 3 point shot. That is garbage now. And Barea got scorched by Dragic as well. I also hate how he pounds the ball so much and runs the shot clock down.

That picture wasn't taken in the 4th. That play resulted in 2 free throws. Hardly a reason to go away from him, IMO.

That's exactly why it's so dumb that he got one touch the entire 4th.

...which makes it even worse. Any team that can successfully take Dirk out of the game, assisted by the Mavs' (and maybe even Dirk's) inability to get our MVP the ball, has every chance to beat us. We just weren't able to make Phoenix pay. Besides that, at times it not only looked as if the Suns were trying harder, they also looked better on defense than we did in the 4th quarter.

my take on what happened is that the suns were watching tnt in the locker room at halftime and heard the terry quote, and got fired up. next time wait until we actually win the game before insulting the other team bro

Oh absolutely, this was just a blip on the radar screen in the grand scheme of things, but it's still extremely frustrating when your best player pretty much has no impact in such a close game over such a long stretch of time in the 4th quarter. In my opinion that should never, ever happen. ESPECIALLY with this team. Remember, stats have proven that this team more than any other in the league relies on Dirk when he's on the floor. When he's not on the floor this team is very average.

And to your last point, we usually are up against it. Jet Terry played well tonight, and when he plays like that and gives us a real secondary option down the stretch, we can have nights like this where Dirk doesn't receive a lot of touches, or is maybe having a tough time scoring the ball. But more times than not this season it IS up to Dirk. It's either Dirk having to take the big shot, or Dirk having to draw in the defense and making the smart pass to the open player. We have four players on this team that can create for himself. One being Dirk, two being Jet, three being JJB, four being Roddy -- Dirk is Dirk, Jet's been in a season slump, JJB is extremely limited and Roddy's a rook. So when Dirk's not getting the ball we simply have a hard time scoring, especially when the defensed is a notch higher down the stretch. More times than not this season, if Dirk doesn't have a good game, we don't win.

I'm not trying to disparage Dirk or anything. I love the guy, and I truly believe he's carrying this franchise on his back right now. We have talented players, but they're all complimentary pieces. Unless he gets that legitimate "Robin" secondary scorer, then, we'll see more of this unfortunately. It's going to take a toll on the big guy eventually.
