Adrian Wojnarowski: PICKS TRADE: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading three second-round picks to the Phoenix Suns for two first-round pick swaps (2024 and 2030) and Isaiah Todd, sources tell ESPN. The seconds are 2025 via Pels, and Memphis? 2028 and 2029 picks. ? via Twitter wojespn

I would sign Hamidou Diallo and call it an offseason. He shows up really well in advanced stats and has a ton of athletic tools.

Depth chart probably something like:

Luka - Seth - Exum - Miles (2-Way)
Kyrie - Hardy - THJ
Green - Diallo - AJ Lawson (2-Way)
G-Will - Maxi - OMax
Holmes - Lively - Powell - McGee

McGee and Exum first two out for 13-man game day roster.

The TE leftover from the Holmes/Prosper deal is enough to cover Saddiq Bey salary. Seems like a reasonable plan B to Thybulle. Maybe not the defender of Thybulle but defends and brings a lot more offensively. Atlanta has a million wings (mostly Bey, Johnson, Griffin, Hunter). Bey is RFA next summer and Murray will have an extension kick in. Do they really want to keep Bey or open up minutes for Griffen and Johnson. Could those newly added 2nd's be enough for Bey? They also seem to also have more than 15 on their roster.

Pinson has wiped the Mavs stuff from his Twitter

We have a spot. Does that indicate he?s gone? If so, does that mean there is a move coming (FA signing, 1-for-2 trade)

This is going to take some effort on our part. We just need to form a plan to temporarily kidnap DP.

His weight and conditioning hasn't been a concern in the offseason and when reporting to camp. It's how he regresses during the regular season. The fact is, you gain weight by consuming more calories than you burn over an extended period of time. And given his youth and tremendous level of activity with games and practices, this should be very concerning as he must be drinking way too much and eating like absolute crap as the dude has to be burning north of 3500 calories each day. You can't feed your body with junk and expect it to perform like a Bugatti and Luka has to recognize this by now.

Hmm. He hasn't come in from the off season in elite shape. He has made some improvements but he is not there yet. I agree he gains weight and looks sluggish and worn down by 3/4 season mark and needs to keep it consistent by proper strict diet.

I think we have to come to grips with the possibility that Luka might always struggle with conditioning, throughout his whole career. I'm hoping he's like Jokic and really gets it this time and it really sticks. But it's very possible he's more like Barkley or Shaq and just doesn't take it seriously enough and might end up having a shorter career because of it.

Philly signed Bamba and Harrell has returned. Paul Reed is getting intriguing for some of the MLE. Maybe they'd like some sort of THJ deal?

I think you may be right on this. Man, Shaq's career could have been even more dominant than it was had he of controlled his weight during his Lakers tenure. Dude just got complacent.

We can only hope that Luka learned a ton from this last season and uses it as motivation for many seasons to come.

Y'all aren't giving enough credit to having Kyrie here with an improved Hardy. Luka simply won't have to grind his wheels off the first half of the season. That is likely the highest cause to his stamina decreasing as the year went on. I feel like we are going to get a very, very good version of Luka this year, all things considered.

That's a good point. I'll be very interested to see what Luka's usage rate is this year.

It has been said over and over and over again this particular "style" of basketball that Luka and the Mavs have been playing for the past five years, that is, one guy doing absolutely everything on offense, doesn't win championships. People who make this argument will then point to players like Iverson, Harden, Westbrook, T-Mac, and any number of other players with historically high usage rates. They make this argument as if the Mavericks have made a deliberate choice to play basketball in this one particular way, ignoring other styles that have won championships. They conveniently forget that anytime a team has one player doing everything, it's because the rest of the team isn't very good. I somehow doubt the Mavs would have won more games or had better playoff success over the past five years, if only they would have had Luka give some of the offensive load to Dorian Finney-Smith or whoever else.

I'm trying not to let my expectations get carried away, but I don't think it's at all a stretch to say that this upcoming season, Luka will have the most talented supporting cast to this point his career- by a pretty wide margin actually.

I really hope the coaches are implementing or discussing how the offense will be ran with Luka. It no longer needs to be a one man show, they got ball handlers. Cautiously optimistic. We don?t need Luka dribbling at the top over and over

Luka also needs to demonstrate that he can play off the ball. He's never done it before in the NBA, and I don't think he did it much in Europe either. At least not since he was like 16 years old. It's a small sample size, but last season he had a tendency to just camp behind the 3pt line when Kyrie had the ball.

Makes it even weirder that Portland matched, like if you know a player wants to go there, why bother other than some trade down the road, but dallas made it tough to trade anyway

You can be the smartest GM in the league but it?s hard because you?re working with humans and humans are irrational.

MT wanted to be here. He made no sense for Portland. We gave them all the poison pills in the contract.

And then it came down to reputation and pride. Portland was humiliated by the Dame thing. They were embarrassed by the Grant contract. Logically they should have moved onto rebuilding but they?re thinking like a spurned lover and thus irrationally.

Holmes waived his 1.8m trade kicker so Mavs could up their offer for Thybulle?

That?s kinda wild to me. He?s not going to be making a ton for his career.

The Mavs deepest success was when Brunson proved he could run the offense more than efficiently when Luka was able to rest.

Now we have Kyrie and Hardy, at least, to help take that offensive burden. I'm also alluding to more effort on defense from Luka. That would pay dividends for this current roster.

In the end, Portland likes MT for the same reason the Mavs did. He's an asset on that contract and will likely be traded or blossom into a stud for them. Either way, it makes sense to me why they would match.

The best way to get Luka off-ball yet still efficiently involved is to put his big ass on the block. The biggest no-brainer all of last season should have been using this tactic. One of Many faults of Kidd and staff

Stein still says trying to get a center, trade THJ and Javale. Although the longer it goes on, the more worried I am that there won't be any takers.

David Lord with the curve ball. Says lack of activity last day is because Portland hasn't officially matched Thybuille yet. They have until 11 CDT to match it.

SO technically Portland can back and do a S&T with us?

Listen, it's probably all for not, but at least we know why they wouldn't move forward with new plans until this is officially resolved.

We have a contract that matches half his salary (BYC). His name is McGee

Yes. Portland can decide (with EVERYONE'S permission) to tear up the deal and then the whole process starts over. Its not going to happen but it >>IS<< legal by the new CBA.

Do you think this is a Sign and Trade for Thybulle and Nurkic maybe? I mean, I don't know what more we can get at the center position for only THJ and McGee

Mavs have ?zero? interest in Nurkic according to Stein

And they?re right. We need defense, screens, and rebounding. Hes not really good at any of that.

It?s also a big ask to dump his salary? more than the assets it would take for a SnT
