Just For Fun: I have an interesting NBA Hypothetical here...
Maybe this thread is worthless...but I got into this conversation with a few friends and somehow found it fascinating. Here's the question, if by some reason you were given the ability to shoot 100% from the field....and I mean anywhere from the floor, would an NBA team sign you?
So basically...you make every shot. Half court, under your own basket, facing backwards....wherever.....as long as you got the shot off, it would go in. Now, you would have to be able to get the shot off, so it could still get blocked.
The drawback of course is that you would be a complete and total liability on defense...you would be burned and targeted.
I still felt that there are enough moments in a season and in the playoffs that a team would need a basket so bad that they would sign you. Like last night.....imagine after Wade misses those freethrows....you get the inbounds and drain a 3. Or in game 3 or 5. It's tough to figure this out...and maybe it's stupid, but I think a team would take a chance. Your thoughts?

Hmmm..intersting. I would say the they would almost definately sign the guy/you.
If no one knew about you and after one game you go like 20-20 with 20 threes, they would almost certainly triple or quadrouple team you your next game.
Then though you could almost certainly find an open man for a layup. And if you ever catch the opposing team off guard and they leave you open, even at like 3/4 court, you would jut heave it in. In crucial situations you would set up a triple screen play and as long as your open for a 1/2 second, you would score.
I dont think the defensive liabilty would be a problem. The team would be very smart to get like shotblockers and good 1-0n-1 defenders beside you. I mean even in most NBA games you see guys getting blown by all the time.
But I dont know how a coach could say no to you if you show up at training camp draining half court shot after half court shot. ..even if you have no other skill...there are 14 other guys on the team to do that.

since you said no matter how you shoot it yes you would get signed to a max contract. You can always get SOME kind of a shot off.

This hypothetical player would still get signed, though maybe not a max deal. With as many possessions as there are in a game, the other team would foul out before the FT% made a difference.
Hack-a-shaq only works for a short period of time. With a 100% FG shooter, they'd have to foul every play.

You would definetly be signed to a max contract and the team that signed you would probably play zone to kind of hide you within the defense. Interesting scenario.

The thing that makes it difficult, if you are using me as the hypothetical player...is that I'm a 5'8" unathletic, white boy with no speed or hops. Even the sparest of the spare that is 6'0" would post me up and dominate. It would cause a ton of probs for our defense.......I think it would make it more interesting of I was only guaranteed 100% field goal percentage of the shot was within my strength.....so pretty much halfcourt and barely beyond and that's it....

Actually what would make it more interesting is if the guy who shot 100% from the field was 80 years old, would they still sign him?

Steve Kerr made a living at this, and he didn't shoot anywhere near 100%.

Alright well what if it's a 5'0" tall 80 year old man with prosthetic knees? And he shoots 100% only inside the halfcourt line?

No way, now you've gone too far! At least give him a good pair of knees! How is the team going to run him through the thirty screens he's going to need.

How could someone who could shoot 100% from ANYWHERE on the court not be able to make free throws? The free throw line is on the court........................
