Anyone checked in on Knicks fans? I mean they have the cap space to sign players buttttt we know how thats worked before. Theyre closer to Zion than we are though.

The Mavs have never had two franchise players AND cap space. When they had Dirk in his prime, they never had cap space...not at any point. Hell, they've probably never had one young franchise player and cap space... this is amazing.

That's a bingo.
Luka & Porzingis is gonna make a lot of big name FAs take pause and consider their destination this summer... Like, do the Knicks still appeal to Durant at this point? If the Lakers land AD, then we could very well be one of the best options available. Luka/Durant/Porzingis is an instant contender.

And selfishly (for me), I think this increases the chances that Dirk comes back IF he is healthy and feels that he can help the team. You can always use another shooter off the bench.

Bingo!!!!
I had to comment as I was reading through the thread. My wife told me that the Mavs made a trade with NY and the guy's name was Por-something. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I am so pumped for the Mavs. Still gotta work through the QO options, but Erica is usually bang up on that stuff, and I liked her analysis.
Wow. Now just pray he heals up and recovers nicely, and the next several years are guaranteed to be as much fun as we've had in years.
Man, I'm so psyched about this trade. KP was on my wish list of players that I never would've guessed the Mavs would ever have a shot at.
Thank you DSJ for that nifty triple double last night and a good showing by Wes with the 3's!

They took Frank over Dennis, then ended up trading Porzingis to fix their mistake... It would be hilarious if the lotto balls conspired against them and no FAs ended up signing there... Or watch them sign Kyrie and end up putting DSJ right back into the same position he was in with Luka.

@wojespn
Kristaps Porzingis, who can become a restricted free agent this summer, has yet to make a decision on his future with Dallas, league sources tell ESPN. He expects to start the process of getting to know the organization soon. Porzingis will continue to rehab his ACL injury.

What kind of cap space will we have this summer? Also, someone posted earlier that THJ expires after next season but I see a PO that he's most likely not declining unless he tears it up here...

Per spotrac we'll have 28M if both Barnes and Powell opt in

Luka is such a team player. He even was willing to have his worst game of the season to make DSJ look as good as possible against the Knicks to execute this trade.

This insane, I cannot believe it is happening. By signing that QO he is betting on himself so we will at least have him for a year.

@ShamsCharania: Porzingis is incredibly fond of Dirk Nowitzki and Luka Doncic -- and the Mavericks have confidence they will be able to keep Porzingis, league sources said. Knicks/Mavericks talks started picking up steam Wednesday night.

Mavs are including TWO future first-rounders in this trade. KP is signing that max contract this summer.

Hardaway is trash....he is basically the SG version of Barnes, just worse. So he eats 18m in cap this summer and next summer.
Lee also eating 13 cap space, could not even dump Powell...

Cost of doing business -- we now have a Luka/Porzingis core to unleash hell on the NBA.

To be fair I thought the same. Actually the whole league did. The Hardaway contract was considered an albatross at the time the Mavs took it on.

Same here. He was the second coming of Mesley in my mind, but with better handles and better passing. I was looking forward to the day he moved on pretty much from the moment he arrived. However, before I have a second helping of that tasty crow, I do want to see how he performs in the playoffs. If he can continue being an efficient, solid scorer come playoff time when the intensity is turned up, energy-wise, talent-wise, and defense-wise, then I'll consider him a keeper.
IF THJ can continue his efficiency and productivity against the NBA's better teams, then it's exciting to think about adding a 3rd option this coming summer, preferably a legit 3 and D wing with size. THJ would be bumped to 4th and Curry 5th as far as offensive production goes. THAT would be phenomenal offensively. Now, please get a handle on the defense against GOOD teams, please. Blowing out the dregs of the NBA doesn't mean squat come playoff time if you can't get stops against playoff teams in crunch time.

Not really a bad deal for NY tbh. They got rid of two bad contracts. A young pg (DSJ) with potential. And now have tons of cap space for free agents. Don't think of cap space in N.Y. being the same as cap space in Dallas. They should have much more success than us in getting guys to sign there. A blank slate for the new management.

Disagree, it's a terrible deal for NY. Losing Porzingis was the one thing they could not afford to do.
Jackson was alienating Porzingis, even before Jackson was axed.
Mills/Perry alienated his management (family).
Fizdale has been a knucklehead to all, and despite the pc lip service that Porzingis "liked" him, it was clear that Porzingis and his brother-agent had no confidence in any of the team management. Fizdale is being paid/directed to tank, but there are ways to do this without jerking players around. (Nobody wants to hear about that time you and Lebron won the championship in Miami.)
Pretty sure there will be another coach in NY withing the next 2 years, and Porzingis wanted no part of it.

I hope those two picks are heavily protected... that's actually a lot. Looking more like a win-win for both sides now. NYK has youth, tons of picks and two max slots. Dallas a playoff contender with a healthy KP.
