why even use the foul/timeout when you are down by 7?

And here I thought trading for Caron Butler would alleviate some of that problem.
But if the Mavs are always to roll with Kidd and Terry in the backcourt in crunchtime... then they will **always** lose against the big boys.
Jet is just a sieve. And Kidd can't cover anyone with quickness.

Are you watching the same game? Rondo has scored exactly once on Kidd in the 4th.

Where's the Spurs in the oldest team in the NBA list? And how is Orlando and Bucks considered old teams? Especially the Bucks lol. I thought they were in reubilding mode.

Thought the same. He had a field day with J-Kidd not being able to guard him, which was to be expected, and Haywood running around somewhere else other than the middle. Too many easy layups.
16-point turnaround by the Celtics in the 4th quarter. Disappointing.

I don't know if some of you are being sarcastic or not, but come on.. the season is not over, the Mavs are a very good team, we just lost to a very good team.
This game win or lose does not determine what's going to happen in the future. Grow a pair of balls.. jesus.

Until Jet is gone, the defense will always struggle in the 4th. He's going to play, so you might as well deal with it.
No one in this organization has the balls to sit his ass as is needed in closing time.

Terry is okay offensively. In fact he is good offensively on a lot of nights. But he aint a SG. And he can't guard PGs.

Its like the Bulls playing Steve Kerr in closing minutes of games when they need stops. Its probably not fair to JET but I honestly feel he's equivalent to a Steve Kerr type. Maybe a rich mans Steve Kerr. You can't give these guys major minutes. Especially in closing minutes. You could get away with JET out there if you had someone alongside him who could hold his own but we already have to put Kidd on the opposing teams 2 or 3 just to get him off the teams point guard if they're quick like a Rondo, Parker, Paul, etc. Its been the same story since Kidd got here. I thought the Mavs fixed this weakness when they traded for Butler. Its still here.

It always does, fans have short term memories so that winning streak seems like a long time ago. Everyone just needs to breathe a little bit. This was a big game in the sense that this was a quality opponent and we were a fully healthy squad. But while it's disappointing, in the big picture, win or lose, this game really doesn't mean that much. I guess it does in the standings, but still, the Mavs will live to play another game. We're OK.

I like the attitude but I think you have it wrong. We just sucked tonight and came out without any sort of power and let the Celtics walk us around the whole game on a leash. Its a total lack of intensity more than being beaten by a good team. Celtics played extremely poorly tonight but the Mavs were just messy, whiny and without energy.
Is this the best we can play? Definitely not-- in fact its almost as bad as this team is capable of. Is this something to worry about when this is about the 20th team to shoot 50% in our own building? Yeah. Is it concerning when we have games where we cant execute offense or defense? Yeah its a little concerning.
Plus its the final few weeks and this team HAS to be gearing up into a winning mentality. Playing listless ball isnt a very good way to warm up for bigger challenges.

A lot of pissing and moaning for a game that could have gone either way. I'm disappointed, too, but let's not act like this was some sort of blowout. The Celtics' starters were just better than ours tonight.
Oh, btw, I think the criticism of Terry's defense late is misguided. Rondo is pretty darn good to start with and scored more of the points late despite pretty good defense by Kidd.
If we want to levy some criticism, how about 3-14 by Butler? 9 minutes for Dampier? I'm just sayin'...

i think the most disheartening thing about all this is that even the old mavs could march into new york and boston and get seemingly easy wins, and the new and improved mavs couldn't beat either team at home. just makes me wonder exactly how much better this trade made us after all

Damp didn't even deserve those 9 minutes. He was terrible on both sides of the ball in the little he played.

I think a veteran like Dampier deserves a bit more leash than that. It's not like his last name is Beaubois. And even though the +/- suggests it may have worked out okay tonight, Najera at center is just fool's gold. Period.

Yeah, one baseline dunk doesn't make up for a bad shooting night and pretty mediocre defense.

New Jersey beat Boston. Boston beat the new-look Mavs: therefor the 2010 Nets are better than the new-look Mavs?
NJ>Boston

Ouch. Celts are pretty legit and I wouldn't exactly bet against them taking out Orlando and/or Cleveland. Pierce finally looks to be recovered, imo.
Dirk was killer tonight, but Butler just couldn't hit a damn jumper.
