Pierce is another SF crammed into a SG role around here. I'd rather have Ray Allen, who is probably the best shooter in the game and he still runs wild all over the court getting open looks.

I do not like the NY development. Donnie is hanging out in Dallas waiting.. and whatmore.. if we knew LeBron or Wade was going to be having dinner that night in town.. WWCD?

Cuban would probably call all the major restaurants big-timers go to for big-time dinners, pay for that meal plus some 50,000 dollar bottle of wine and then ask him to have breakfast in the morning (or go to a superstar lounge for a drink in the evening).

May all be nothing and if it soothes Dirk, cool, but have to wonder what it would've been like if we got the 12:01 agreement and the team (Cuban + Donnie/Kidd/Dirk) all went to talk to JJ.

If ATL signs JJ back, how long before they can turn around and trade him?

Dec. 15th, I believe.

FWIW, realgm currently has a link up stating that the Hawks' offer to JJ does not, at present, include a 6th year.

Two points:

1. What decent wings are left besides Wade?...since Gay and JJ appear to be staying

2. What was happening on this day last year that made 1,780 users come to this site at 2:44PM 7/1/09....was it the Gortat debacle?

That may be an opportunity for Dallas to get in the picture. I just don't understand him going back to Atlanta. He's the one guy you could almost be sure of leaving going into FA. He'd be overpaid but if he helps Dirk/Dallas get that championship then it's worth it.

Ray Allen? You mean that guy who occasionally catches fire and nails 5 or 6 threes in a game, but typically goes 1/8 or 0/5? You mean that guy who failed to show in 6/7ths of the Finals? You mean that guy who shot more 3's last year than Terry at a lower percentage? Allen goes to the FT line less, gets less steals, and turns the ball over more. And he comes with the mentality that he deserves shots, because he's a superstar. That's not true anymore. Ray Allen is the EXACT SAME player as Jason Terry is right now, with maybe slightly improved defense.

Give me Korver, Redick or Mike Miller. All three come way cheaper than Allen and don't need a lot of looks but knock down the ones they have at a very high percentage (at 54, 41 an 48% respectively last year). Or just keep JET, tone down his minutes, and use him like Allen without losing his fan appeal (to casual fans), his team leadership, his 4th quarter clutch (fading, but still shows up from time to time), or his knowledge of the system.

Fish has a new piece up on JJ. No new news regarding his likelihood of accepting Atl's offer, but Fish does state that the Mavs continue to be interested in JJ.

I feel fairly confident that if Cuban wants a "big fish"...that he will find a way to get a "big fish".

Jet is NOT the same exact player Ray Allen is. I'm not saying he would be our savior by any stretch but Pierce would be expensive and is too big and slow to guard SG in the same way Caron is night after night. I'm worried about trying to force guys in at the SG position.

The script goes like this: LeBron meets all his suitors and none of them impress, so he calls Cuban in for an eleventh hour meeting and either ends up signing with the darkest horse in the race or he sticks with Cleveland and simply rakes in all the cash generated from this circus...

I've been taking the view that Dallas might stand a better chance if LeBron IS impressed by some team other than the Cavs. Thing is, if Cleveland ends up looking better than the Knicks/Heat/Nets/etc., there's no incentive for the Cavs to deal. Toronto's situation with Bosh is sort of the model.

Yep, we pretty much need LeBron to have a non-Cleveland second favorite if the Mavs want to make this sign and trade thing work. If LeBron doesn't have a legitimate place to bolt to in the event that Cleveland refuses to do a sign and trade with the Mavs, we don't really have any leverage.

Luckily I think the Bulls are just that team so I don't think there is much to worry about here. We just have to worry about turning the Mavs into LeBron's favorite.

i agree with this. LeBron can actually afford to turn down Cleveland's extra money. if we have a shot then it's LeBron saying "i will walk to Chicago and you'll get nothing or i go to Dallas, you get a nice return and i get my cake and eat it too" or something like that.

Pipe Dreams.

If JJ is off the table, We're already at 3rd tier SG's. Who would be top 3 options? Not SF's but SG's.

I think if you miss out on the big boys, you're getting deals or free agents that only wow certain fans.

Fair enough (though I note that Wade has reportedly scheduled a meeting with the Mavs). Once you get past the top two SGs (Wade and JJ), the FA talent pool does thin considerably, even if there are some moderately intriguing names left on the board (e.g., the Boston Allen's and JJ Reddick). Really, though, I continue to think that your best bet if you don't hit on either of the two game-changing FA SGs or a standout at another position (CP, LeBron, Bosh, etc.), Iggy's the guy to target.

I think it's posturing with the interview. It's gotta be below 5% with the chances of Wade coming here. LeBron and Joe are higher but not anything to brag about.

The names you mentioned for intrigue are that, I'd personally jump for Reddick before Allen. JJ is underrated, he's had to battle through SVG basically hating him and not giving him any minutes and he's becoming a much better all-around player. With Iggy, I still think you're gonna have to take Brand.

Forgot about Iggy.

He'd be great. Hope we can do an Iggy and a something else though.

Iggy is a great player especially in the regular season but one of our problems in the playoffs is our half court play and he does not help us much there id rather have Reddick or Allen

Redick would be a nice addition.

Update on Johnson from Wojnarowski: Joe Johnson is thinking through several scenarios before taking Hawks offer of $119 million, but sources insist Knicks unappealing to him.

Another Update: Everyone expects Johnson to take Hawks deal, but he wants to explore every option before committing to them. That offer isn't leaving table.

Source told FOXSports.com that Mike Miller has already met with the Lakers, Knicks and Heat out in L.A. Lakers offered 5 years, $30 million.

I mean WOW just WOW...the Lakers would then have Odom and Miller coming off the bench.
