I cant lie...I want Shaq. Here's my dream plan:
1) Mavs sign Shaq to a cheapass contract to back up Haywood.
2) Mavs sign T-Mac to cheapass contract to back up SG.
3) Mavs sign Raja Bell to cheapass contract to back up SF
4) Mavs trade Damp, Matrix and Jet + garbage to Phila for Iguodala and Brand
NEW LINE UP:
PG - Kidd | Beaubois | Barea
SG - Iguodala | T-Mac
SF - Butler | Bell
PF - Dirk | Brand
CT - Haywood | Shaq
The bench is old and injury prone as fu*k, but fu*k it! thats why they come in as relief! Lets get this shit done. Go Mavs.

Shaq, T-mac, Brand, and Raja Bell are all on the downsides of their careers.

Actually ... if we kept Marion, and traded Damp/Terry/Carroll, we wouldn't really need to sign T-Mac or Bell.

I am down for some T MAC! Notate this. Only at a cost that if he breaks it doesn't hurt us a ton. He is hungry to prove himself and he looked fine to me, while he lit our asses up last year!

You're not signing Shaq and Raja. Shaq's going to take most of the MLE, if not all.

Shaq, Raja, Marion - this is the EXACT team I wanted here 4 years ago...
DO IT!!! (we should fit right in with the circus that Miami has turned the NBA into...)

Look out, Thiggy!
Quote:
Dirk: 'I Want Shaq!'
link
I’ve written many times that “Shaq Likes Dallas’’ and that “Dallas Likes Shaq’’ and that I wouldn’t bother again repeating our three-year-old mantra regarding the legendary old center’s desire to finish his career with the Mavs until there was actually a news hook to validate the re-re-re-mention of the story.
Here’s your hook: “I Want Shaq!’’ says … Dirk Nowitzki.
That’s the headline on the German sportspage, and while I don’t think those are Nowitzki’s exact words, our German-to-English translation makes it clear enough:
“On the basis of his experience,’’ Nowitzki said of O’Neal, “he would be a great addition to our team. He is still a dominant center, and opens space for others.’’
There’s a lot to consume in that one sentence. (And it is worth noting: This is obviously Dirk answering questions from the news outlet which was motivated to ask by the latest wave of Shaq Likes Dallas rumors. So factor in Nowitzki's politeness -- to the questioner and to the subject, too.)
Shaq’s experience at age 38? No doubt. And four rings, too.
Opens space for others? Still true, due to both his incredible mass and his skills as an offensive interior threat.
A great addition to the team? There are some at Mavs HQ who wonder if Shaq is a walking distraction … and others who believe the free agent is ready to play not only elder statesman but also team spokesman. … But if Dirk believes …
A dominant center? Well, not quite.
O’Neal will go down as one of the greatest NBA players of all time. But he’s also gone down … from a time when he was worth $20 mil a year to now, when he’s shopping his wares to Atlanta, Miami and Dallas (and Italy, too) hoping to stay in the NBA for the full-MLE of $5.8 mil and a two-year contract.
Still, as recently as 2009, he was putting up 18 points and almost nine rebounds per game. And the Dirk ankle marks the first time this summer that it's somebody besides the Shaq camp stirring up destination talk.
This sort of add isn’t LeBron-level stuff, obviously; maybe it’s a notch below Udonis Haslem-level. But as the backup center to Brendan Haywood, closing out a stellar career while playing 20 minutes per game?
It’s certainly among Shaq’s wishes.
He’s told us so for years, and we’ve written about it for years. O’Neal has expressed to the 75-Member Staff that Dallas is his favorite NBA city; he has a home and family here. Shaq-to-Dallas has been explored by both sides many times: Immediately after he left the Lakers, before he went to Phoenix, after he arrived in Phoenix, before he went to Cleveland, and now, again.
The relationship between Mavs owner Mark Cuban and Shaq is a factor here.
From Mark’s side, as told to us by a source in February 2009: “I can guarantee you this: Mark would love it. He lives for the short-term. That’s exactly the kind of thing he likes to pull off. For a lot of good reasons, he’d love to do that.’’
From Shaq’s side, as told to us through a source in February 2009: “Dallas is pretty much my favorite NBA city. I’d love to live in Dallas. I’d love to be in Dallas.’’
But it’s never been enough for Shaq to love the idea.
And it’s never been enough for Cuban to love the idea.
Dirk loving the idea? That might be enough.

I still want Shaq and TMac to split the MLE.
Makes perfect sense from Dallas point of view because neither are what they used to be, but both could in small times - take over like they used to.

I'm pretty sure any team could get TMac for the BAE, and quite possibly the veteran minimum. I doubt anyone gives him half of their MLE.

I remember the days when the possibility of acquiring Shaq was exciting. Not Realistic, but exciting nonetheless. Now it is realistic and not exciting. Can his huge ego handle 10 minutes a game as Haywood's backup? Cause that's all he's good for.

Why do something for the sake of doing something? You seriously want Brand? People go into freak out mode if they don't get insta-microwave results, be patient people.

I don't want Brand, but I want Iggy. It's like if someone but a million bucks at the bottom of a pool of octopus poo, I'd dive to get it...
There's no better 2's out there at this point.

Hard to imagine Shaq not coming here now. If Dirk is discussing it and giving positive feedback and Shaq can actually be obtained...it's probably going to happen. I know Dirk didn't go out of his way to mention him, it came up in an interview, but based on the market and etc...it seems like he'll find a way here. Maybe it doesn't even have to involve the MLE, a sign and trade could still happen right?

Something like DUST/JET/Carroll for Iggy/Brand might work if the '6ers are willing to take back some salary...

Brands contract is a massive pitchfork slowly grinding into the gonads repeatedly for about 3 years.

I'd rather take Noc than Brand. He's also quite a salary burden at 21M over 3 years.
JET/Damp for Iggy/Noc?

apparently Dirk wants Shaq too.
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...-want-shaq.php
Quote:
The Dallas Mavericks are trying to decide if they want to take on Shquille O'Neal and all that comes with him. But their star player has weighed in on that:
"I want Shaq."
That's what Dirk Nowitzki told a German publication (via the fantastic DallasBasketball.com).
The question is, do the Mavericks really need him? They just signed Brendan Haywood to a five-year deal, and at this point he is a better center than Shaq. Haywood starts, which mean's Shaq off the bench. Would that happen quietly? How big a distraction are we talking? Shaq sized?
The Mavericks also are still in the running to get Al Jefferson out of Minnesota, although they slipped behind the Jazz in that race.
There are rumors that Shaq is being considered in Miami, but our own Ira Winderman tweets that any noise of interest there is coming from the Shaq side, not the Heat side.
Shaq wants to play two more years and is still a useful backup center. He shot 56 percent last year and can still rebound well. He's a big body in the paint, and Dallas could use that trying to match up with the Lakers (Miami could use it to, trying to match up with Boston and Orlando).
But with Shaq comes some media attention and his large personality, which may not blend well some places. He's going to make headlines and noise, he likes the limelight. Is the tradeoff worth it?
Dirk thinks so.

Who cares if Shaq gets media attention? Cuban is a media attention whore. I don't get why people view this as such a bad thing. I really like Shaq's goofy personality. Mavs need a back-up center so at least he fits.

You can actually throw in Stevenson and the trade still works.

2 years ago I brought up getting Shaq and Artest and got so much shit in here. Kept me off the board for a while. On the low I was a bit happy for Artest hitting that 3 in finals and Shaqs team having the most reg season wins. Made me fell like I knew what i was talking about. Even when a lot of a holes in here think they know everything. Shaq is the most dominate force in basketball the last 15 years.
