I hate that "good defense" or "tough defense" means "get away with lots of pushing, bumping, shoving, and slapping."

Their fans help them, our fans are just quiet in D-Arena, that's the difference. Even HCA wouldn't help Mavs.

Is the fact that most of our recent losses have been by a small margin reason for worry or reason for optimism?

How many Mavs games have you been to this season?
On another note in general, Do you think Corey Brewer regrets signing with us?

When there's 5 games left in the season...

Serious question: did Corey Brewer land in Dallas and then promptly drive over to Rick's house and nail his wife?
I'm not even sure the guy can contribute all that much, but there is no point in not trying him when a guy like Roy is going off. Instead, the guy is racking up DNPs like Rawle Marshall.

It's pretty obvious now we just aren't good enough with the roster we have. Beaubois has one of his best games and we still can't get it done. Barea back to the Barea of last year and early in the season. Terry back to last years playoffs when it counts. Dirk lets the other team get in his head again. Anyone play worse when they get mad? Dirk just freaks out.

Roy's first objective when he has the ball is to draw a whistle.

A lot of people were complaining about Dirk's rebounding. In the last 3 games he has 30. 11 tonight. Lets take notice of this. Way too many offensive boards. Next highest guy had 5.
Tyson got shafted on 3 or 4 fouls which made things tough. Still, Tyson's defense has disappointed me lately. He's not blocking any shots. He's committing silly fouls (tonight aside) and he's getting scored on pretty easily. I don't feel nearly as confident about him as I used to. Hope Haywood is okay.
Dirk played his ass off.
Marion had another great game until the final few minutes where his inability to hit a jumper really hurt us. It's stupid to have him in the corner, because when it gets swung to him, he NEVER takes the open 15-18 footer. Instead he forces it inside or forces a pass.
Kidd's inability to score also REALLY hurts us late. It's real tough when Dirk and Terry are the only guys down the stretch who can score. Dirk gets doubled, and if Terry isn't open, we're shit out of luck.
Terry hit a few big shots in the 4th, but he also played some terrible terrible defense. That turnover was huge. He's not why we lost, though.
JJB was absolute garbage. Pathetic. He dribbles out the shot clock and dumps the ball off on someone else or forces up a stupid drive. That's not going to cut it. Again, like against L.A., he panics when a bigger defender ballhawks him (Rudy, Kobe). Scouts notice these things.
Roddy played great early, minus a few to's. Would have liked to see him get some minutes in the 4th to alleviate the offensive pressure on Dirk.
Would have liked to seen Brewer over DeShawn.
Ian played okay. Guy needs to learn to rebound.
Refs were nothing short of a joke. Pathetic. You can't breathe on LA, but guys can play Dirk like it's football. It's funny how some teams get absurd home cooking. Why can't the Mavs ever get ONE game like this one on their own home court?
Honestly, I'm not optimistic about the playoffs. Feels like it will be Dirk stepping up, maybe Marion playing well until crunch time, and flashes of Jet. That's not enough.

I can't stand players who play to draw fouls instead of actually play the damn game.
Christina Paul being another.

OffEff: 123.0
DefEff: 126.6
Portland attempted 18 more field goals because of offensive rebounds and turnovers. Kind of reminds me of the 8-shot possession Miami had earlier this season.
Outscored in the Paint 48:36
23:13 FTA
Bench sucked
Defensive Efficiencies:
Code:
Avg Low High
Oct/Nov 103,24 89,1 112,4
Dec 103,23 88,9 113,9
Jan 110,21 97 126,2
Feb 107,82 99,8 129,5
Mar 111,84 97,4 126,6
Safe to say that the probability of our defense coming back is pretty low.
Did we just lost while shooting 60% ?
We really need to man up. Gettin pushed around at will right now.
I certainly was hoping for a good stretch for the reminder of the season with 20 games left. Count now at 15 and we're heading the other direction.

One thing about the Mavs, you can usually sense a hesitance among players other than Dirk and Jet to play their own offense in the final minute or so of a tight game. If Marion gets a ball in the corner like that in the first, he's probably gonna drive it in and do some stuff. In the final minutes, though, he's more likely to hesitate and look to get it back to Dirk/JET (or Kidd, who will then immediately look to get it back to Dirk/JET).
Sometimes I wonder if maybe it's been too ingrained into our guys heads that Dirk and JET are the "closers." Obviously they are, but you see other teams get end-game contributions in tight games from more secondary players, it seems like.
That's just my gut feeling, though.

Great point, I've noticed the same thing. We know Matrix doesn't want that shot, but early on he'll turn it into a 5 foot runner. I'm okay with that shot. But down the stretch he'll either immediately pass it up, or hesitantly drive, which usually ends in a far less aggressive floater.

Matrix also has one of the highest FG% in the Clutch. He should be looking for a shot if its there.

you're stupid.
And on the play you're talking about, Dirk was double teammed under the basket.
Dirk was a beast tonight.

I think Matrix is a great first half type of player. He is fresh and uses his explosive moments to set himself ready for great shots. Late in games, he is definitely tired or lacks the speed he has early in games. Players that rely too much on energy will wear themselves out easier and I think Marion and even moreso Beaubois are those type of players.

How about this stat:
Three defensive rebounds for our bench (Ian, Card, Jet, JJB, DeShawn) in 77 minutes.
Wow.

Yes it is very frustrating to watch games that end like this. Dirk always leaves a sour feeling in me when he does this. You can't get all the calls. Just let it go. But he is a little bit of a hot head. He even said so in an interview I've heard this year. But I guess anything that doesn't worship Dirk around here is considered 'terrible'. I get the picture. I'll be sure to always say the 'appropiate' things like refs screwed us and etc if that makes you feel better.

it's concerning that we just lost 4 straight games against potential playoff opponents, and not only did we lose, we lost to the grizz without rudy gay, the hornets without cp3, the lakers with a hobbled kobe that hardly produced anything on one foot, and the blazers while shooting 60 percent. in the process, the team has looked physically and mentally soft. ripe for the picking. shooting jumpers and never taking it to the rim. most of the time, it seems like it has been dirk and a bunch of scrubs surrounding him, as usual. the good news is that we still have time to turn this around before the playoffs start.

28/11/2 on 9-14 and 9-9 shooting with a +4. He made every single play in the 4th sans the final three and a shot clock beating deep jumper. Stfu you idiot.
