Part of the book will feature each player on the team, with it being a true team effort and all. You would think you jump right in and start with Dirk, Terry, Kidd or Chandler. For some reason...Peja ended up being the first one, with Cardinal being a close second.
|
I've heard that Cardinal is Dirk's favorite or second-favorite teammate ever. Maybe he sticks around in a Jack Haley mode?

Just thought I'd let everyone know things are progressing nicely. I am entrenched in the "first trimester" of the project (4-5,000 words deep). Thanks for everyone's input. I appreciate it.

That season was really weird. The two things I remember was recalling how much the team relied on dirk every single nigh to win it. It was a constant, throw the ball to dirk at the elbow and he gets beat up trying to score.
And coming home after a game, my wife asking me if they won or not. It was like groundhog day, the same answer over and over. Surreal.

Yeah, and I also seem to remember that a ridiculous number of those wins were comebacks from huge deficits.

12,000 words in. Pretty good progress in the last day.
I don't have a social life, so that should help this.

This "Project" is so exciting! I can't wait to read the chapter on the "Dirk is Great" thread ad DM.

I was hoping someone would do a similar book on Dirk's progression in NBA.
BGM, let me know when your book comes out and I will pre-order it on Amazon

You also don't have a job (well, meaning that this is your job) or summer classes. I envy you sometimes BG haha.

I still have a job, the writing turned into my second job. So now, I'm just back to the regular job to pay the bills, writing and...playing basketball when I can.

If your wrist isn't in too much pain, I'd love to play ball with you. My one-legged fadeaway needs some work and you may have picked up some things from Dirk.

Seriously? How on earth did you have time for both? But I hear ya, writing is a love, not a wallet stuffer.
As for finding time to actually play ball, my only advice is that I find I often have to wake up at 5am. I hate myself for it, but I'm doing it again tomorrow. I have work every morning starting at 7 so its not much, but I get to squeeze a bit over an hour in. YOU HAVE TO WANT IT, BRYAN!

Good luck to you and your book. You should have a part in your book describing how big of a douche Lebron has been in the past two years and how the Mavs took him and his partners down this season.

Maybe I missed it scanning through the thread.. but the loss in New Orleans with the meltdown at the end and Rickster pulling the soft card has to be in there.
And.. don't forget my Jason Terry vs. The World progression from the end of the regular season... JET vs. Phil, which became JET vs. Barnes, which became JET vs. Rick (after a dumb T vs Denver), which became JET vs. JJ (Clippers game), which became JET vs. scoreboard (Houston?)... JET vs. The World... and of course, JET won.

I didn't think of it as "The World" but yeah, a lot of those instances will be in there for his profile.

Just a little update: The first 1/3 of the book is complete. The edits will commence this week. I'll start work on the other 2/3 later this week.

After taking a little break, work on the next part of the book has begun.
I've fully assembled my braintrust to where it's going to take something dramatic for me to make this fail.
ps...If you haven't found out before, it's very difficult to write about yourself.

The regular season section is JUST about done. I sorta skipped around and wrote the celebration section as well. All that's really left for me to actually write is the postseason.
*cough* thiggy *cough*
Starting to look at who could write the forward....it's shaping up nicely.

Why do I get the feeling Mark Followeezy might be one of the two? Though maybe I'm aiming low...how freaking sweet would it be if Mark Cuban wrote it?

Weekend break as the second section is complete. August 31 was the goal to be finished and it appears that's well within reach.

Sounds like it'll be a very interesting book. And while I don't want to sound too perverted or anything...you will be having nude pics of the Mavericks in the book...right?
(Or if that's too much to ask, maybe just of Chandler or Dirk)

Just have to rewatch the Miami series and then write it...then the bulk of the writing is pretty much done, minus some touch-ups.
Going back and watching the games over again is quite the grind, but it's incredibly necessary. I've gone through nearly two notepads just jotting notes and thinking back to things I remember along the way.
Have to wait and see what happens with the Mavs side of things for my stuff because I might be involved in a production they have in the works right now.

No. They're working on different ideas, but a new dvd is not one of them.

The writing is finally complete. It's all about finishing up with the foreword search, the editing and finding a publisher.
Phew...

I've landed my white wale for the foreword. Very exciting...
Now, I'm looking at publishers...any and all suggestions are welcomed on that front.
