Um, yes. Please. Thanks.

Woohoo UD. Could even try to get JJB or Stevenson to round out backcourt.

Gimme Barea:
Kidd/Barea
Fernandez/Carter
Marion/Carter
Dirk/Marion
Kaman/Haywood
With Roddy, DoJo, Ian, Brewer and Wright battling for minutes/contracts...
Yeah.

Kurt Thomas would be worth a shot on a 1 year minimum deal. He always wanted to play here and did a good job last year.

KT apparently headed to Portland, per Stein. Two-year deal.

What I like most is that our roster now is nearly done. We could need another C or so but I might think we're the first one to be able to train with the full roster.

Haywood/Wright/Mahinmi
Dirk/Odom/Marion/Cardinal
Odom/Marion/Brewer/Cardinal
Terry/Beaubois/Carter/Brewer/Fernandez/Jones
Kidd
Terry can play some 1 when he is aggressive with Kidd rebounding and defending the 2 well enough to be a 2 on D. When Kidd rests or if he is ever injured, I see a lot of trouble for this team. Roddy is very raw and doesnt have much PG instinct but may be more polished offensively as a 2. The Mavs have always had great options with Terry/Dirk pick-n-roll, etc so it could be a stopgap as long as Dirk/Terry see the floor any time Kidd is resting/out.
The 5 is not nearly as good this year but its manageable as long as Haywood is healthy. The 1 is what really concerns me at this point just because there are so many players that can play it but so few that really are true points. Maybe it doesnt matter-- having Roddy/Terry play some 1 will help the clog at the 2, but it still seems very crowded at the 2/3/4.
1) Haywood
2) Wright
3) Mahinmi
4) Dirk
5) Odom
6) Cardinal
7) Marion
8) Brewer
9) Carter
10) Terry
11) Fernandez
12) Roddy
13) Kidd
14) Jones
15) Brewer
Thats a full roster with a lot of talent though.

Howard maintains his decision was multifaceted and came down to feeling he didn't have an ideal situation to pursue an NBA title.
Specifically, Howard said overall he didn't feel satisfied with the talent around him and he would like to have the kind of personnel input he said Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki enjoys.
"If Dirk told (Dallas owner) Mark (Cuban) 'Hey, I think this is the direction our team is going, this is what we need in the locker room and these are the kind of players we need,' I think Mark would listen," Howard said. "That doesn't mean Mark has to say, OK, we'll make a rash decision. But I think he would listen and really found out what the player needs around him in order to win."

Name droppin' - he'd obviously prefer to play for a guy like Cuban... Not that it'll happen, but I think the interest is genuine.

Does this mean the Carter thing is official?
http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/maver...hen-lamar-odom
Quote:
DALLAS -- Vince Carter, the Dallas Mavericks are hoping, could be a participant in the second practice Sunday. Meanwhile, Lamar Odom, acquired in a lightning-quick trade late Saturday night is likely to arrive Monday or Tuesday. He has 48 hours to report after the trade.
The Mavs wrapped up a morning workout moments ago on the first day that teams can hold two-a-day practices. Along with missing Carter and Odom, Rudy Fernandez remains a no-show (apparently stuck in Spain with visa issues) and Brian Cardinal is en route to re-sign with the champs.
Coach Rick Carlisle said it won't take a player like Odom long to pick things up. The regular-season opener is two weeks away against the Miami Heat.
"I don't expect Lamar today,'' Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's got 48 hours to report, so he certain has the right to report when he wants to within those provisions. But, when he gets here it won't take an hour to get him acclimated. He has a very high basketball IQ. He'll pick our stuff up very quickly.''
|
They say he could be practicing today, which he has to have a contract for correct? Is he just going to sign as soon as he gets here, and change into practice gear while the ink is drying?

Kwame Brown (if Dalembert is out of reach) for backup center!
What's the word on Rudy besides "visa issue"?

Houston's close to signing Marc Gasol to max-contract offer sheet, working a sign-and-trade with Memphis to secure him, league sources say.

They were the other team interested in Dalembert... does this mean we are now the only team after Dalembert. Hopefully he agrees to sign with us today.

I would think we used the mini-MLE on Carter, so we can't sign him. Has to be a sign-and-trade I guess.

Memphis will match it, Dalembert was also mentioned from Miami but they got Battier so the MLE is away there too...

Very happy with the Odom signing, he was one of the best options out there. Going OT a little, do you guys know if there are training camp videos available somewhere?

And very intriguing. If he see's Cuban as the kind of owner he would like, it sounds like he'd love to be the guy Mark rebuilds around as Dirk's skills fade.

If all JJB is getting is 2.5 offers from NYK, offer him a one-year 4M and roll.

Well, with LT would be 8M for one year Barea AND cockblocking Roddy for PG minutes (and with Terry/Carter/Rudy the SG slot is covered)...

Fair enough. I was thinking as Roddy insurance (injury and PG conversion) wise. I'm probably being a homer towards JJB.
Delonte for minimum would also work.

If we blow more money i would prefer for backup center. We can see how much "Barea" Roddy can be this season and worst case we can play Terry at PG for stretches to rest Kidd...

Yeah, Kwame gets my vote as backup center. Not sure we get him for minimum though.

Very meh on Kwame, and I'm assuming Daly is no longer an option. More generally, I don't think center is that much of a need right now, and wouldn't expect anybody else who's available on the free agent market to earn minutes. If Dallas goes for another center, which certainly isn't out of the question, I'd expect them to be looking at trades for actual impact players rather than scouring the dregs of the free agent market, Kaman being the most obvious target.

Lets do a sign and trade for Dalembert sending JJB to the Kings.

Actually, Kwame isn't that bad. I watched him a lot last year. He's always been a good man defender and rebounder, but last year he developed some semblance on an offensive game.

no chance
If he goes to LA the only way he's leaving is if they ship him out.
Even if they get DH they're gonna need some other pieces before they win a ring. If they lose Gasol and Bynum.

We have to hope Otis holds firm on demanding both. He doesn't have a TON of leverage, with it being common knowledge that DH requested a trade and is gone. He does have the Mavs, Nets and perhaps Chicago and the Clippers(?)bidding. I agree with Thiggy who said D.Howard to the Lakers isn't exactly a tragedy for us. It's a real longshot we could put together a package for Dwight & consequently Deron Williams to Dallas becomes that much more likely. No way the Lakers have cap room for both.

I'm almost thinking that DH to LA is a good thing. They would have to give up too much. They had depth problems when we swept them and this would just make it worse. Kobe and Dwight aren't putting up 50 a night all season and throughout the playoffs.
DH goes there and we get Deron as a result. I can live with that.

If JJB was willing to sign a one-year deal, which he reportedly hasn't been so far, I'd even offer him $4-5 million. 1) It would be just one year without any effects on our financial flexibility next summer; 2) I don't care about Cuban's money and we're over the luxury tax anyway after the Odom deal; 3) Kidd's even older and we're still in "win now" mode after trading for Odom. I'm a bit concerned that Roddy seems to be the chosen one to be Kidd's primary backup. He hasn't been healthy in 412 years and the few minutes he has played as point guard weren't exactly promising. I'd be surprised if he could make just as much of an impact this season as JJB made last season.
Don't get me wrong: I like Roddy and would love to see him healthy and productive. The problem is that he's basically missed an entire season due to his foot injury and we don't know whether or not he can be healthy and productive as a point guard. It's a bit of a gamble.

Exactly, he does have some offensive game now. But his "Bust" label still haunts him and people think he's terrible when he's actually decent now.

Good points, I'm another person that's very skeptical about Roddy. The kid has been injured for so long (And he's still not even 100%). We'd be taking quite a gamble by depending on him. What I loved last season was how well Kidd and Barea complimented each other. Kidd could stabilize the team and play defense, while JJ could increase the tempo and give the team huge boosts with his scoring. I'm gunna miss JJ, and It seems like a very weak market for free agent PG's, so we may just have to make the best of what we have.
