Why wasn't he out on the court in a playoff game?
Not to mention, how many playoff games did he play in last year during our championship run?
It depends on ones opinion of value, if you mean 2nd round pick, sure.
Anything more than that, nope.

Tough one, was a coinflip and Mavs lost. Happens.
Key was Mavs were up 94-87 with 2:31. Should have never come down to a last possession.
Terry not getting a single shot in the fourth is amazing, even with aggressive D from Westbrook the guys should be able to get him the ball. No excuse here.
My key for the series/playoffs was to add two decent performances outside the core (Dirk, Terry, Marion, Kidd, Wood) per game to have a shot and tonight that wasn't the case. Mahinmi bright spot, but Wright couldn't even stay on the floor (outscored 12-22 with him) and Carter / West played pretty ordinary.

I would have never took Haywood out at the end, after that the defense went downhill.
Just so frustrating!

Also, not getting Terry the ball in the 4th was head scratching. He was playing great and i don't think he took a shot late, can't happen!

We got our chance to steal this series last night, but we blew it. The refs had a big part of it, though. I'm not one to point fingers, but some of the calls were just unbelievable. Doesn't give us an excuse for our poor late-game execution, though. Up 5 and wasting two consecutive offensive possessions? I have a very bad feeling for this series now. Basically the Mavs have got to win three in a row now. So either the Mavs will come out will all guns blazing in game 2, thus retaining their chances, and win it by 10+, or OKC is going to cruise this series home pretty easily.

Haywood does plenty of frustrating things, but the defense did suffer.
I knew this game was going to be frustrating when dirk was fouled maybe four times in the first few minutes of the game with no call. The guy doesn't get the respect he deserves.

It was a tough loss.. The Mavs are undermanned in comparison but they still held a 1 point lead with about 15 seconds left. Unfortunately, Durant threw up a shot where he really didn't have a good look. He left it well short but he got a tremendous bounce. I can't really sit here and whine too much about who did this and who didn't because the Mavs did a damn good job of controlling much of the game against a superior opponent. It was a very unfortunate role. It sucks. It'll be very difficult for this Mavs team to recover from it.. there's simply not enough offensive fire power to dominate a series for 5 games.. they needed that one last night.

Brooks put Westbrook on him. This is where it hurts not having a big who sets good screens.

exactly.
Our centers are really pathetic this season. All they produce are empty stats.
That's why Dirk's and Jet's FG% is down this year. Chandler knew how block out or set good screens.
To me Wright or Mihnimi is just an other Singleton, Hollins, Humpries or Drew Gooden. solid individual stats, but you do not win many games with them...
Wood needs to step up and stop playing like Erica. With Gortat in the lineup our team would be a contender.

Very tough loss. I was impressed with the grit displayed by the Mavs. They kept answering all game. I love Dirk, but it was brutal watching him. The turnovers, playing the 5. ACK! This was the first game I can ever remember where it seemed like the team almost played better without him on the court. His +/- had to have been negative. I really liked Carter at times with the energy and penetration, but I wish he'd finish more.
The good news is that Dirk won't have another game like this again. While Terry was hot, I think he's good for 2 very good games in a 7 game series. I think this was one of the two, so we need more people to step it up.
I think we've still got a chance, but the odds are against us. I think the winner of Game 2 will win the series.
Go Mavs!

Dirk played bad, but it was not only his fault. Way too often he recieves the ball while fighting for position near the 3pt line with his back to the basket and two guys guarding him...
This makes no sense at all. It is energy consuming and brings pretty much nothing. In those situations he is usually forced to take a low % fadeaway or pass the ball to someone else....
Compare it to Westbrook and co.. Their shots were so wide open...it was sick to watch. OKC definitely knows how to set screens...
I am also pretty dissapointed in West. He does not know how to deliver the ball to Dirk or Jet. Which is sad because he had plenty of time to study our game when he was injured. Maybe we should risk some Roddy in game 2....
Also Wright needs to step up. He should be our poor man's Ibaka.

every game has BS calls that go both ways that have multiple point swings. those you cannot control. what you can control is the horrible defensive effort down the stretch.

Part of the turnover thing is Dirk's fault, but Rick also needs to come up with better ways to get him the ball in those situations. Right now he's in spots where it's way too easy for the opponent to swarm him from multiple directions. A double team with both guys on your back is one thing, but when they can double team you by putting a guy on each side of your body as soon as you collect the ball, that's tough. If you're not an elite ball handler, that's often going to end poorly.

We lost game 1 on a game winner. Nothing you can do, but accept it. The fact that we barely lost suggests to me that we can hang with this young team and be in a position to steal a few games.

I still think we will be fishing in roughly a week. I hope I'm wrong. I don't think the Mavs are just going to lay down. I do think KD is too good this year. He's owned us all year. He has our number.

He had their number at a timely situation. Before that he was pretty blah. The thing is the Mavs need to avoid untimely second chance opportunities for OKC. The centers need to come back in a big way on Monday.

This. I felt there were 5-6 easy baskets that would've had us up by double digits if either Wood or Ian could finish. Cue the lament for Tyson... Alas! We'll get them Game 2.

Bullets
Game:- Mavs lose to the Thunder 107.90 to 109.00 PP100, give up second most points on a per possession bases this season against OKC
- Both teams combine for 108.45 Efficiency, the most at the first day of playoff basketball
- For the first time in the series (including reg season), Mavs attempt more FTs (+5.51 PP100) and outrebound Thunder (53.85%)
- Both teams set series-highs in Transition Points P100, Mavs 20.92, Thunder 38.54
- Mavs ball movement wasn't sharp, AST% (44.12) and AST/TOV (1.00) were series-lows
- In the decisive 4th quarter, Thunder scored 111.08 of their 128.17 PP100 in the paint or at the line. That's a lot!
- Mavs ball-movement also stopped in 4Q, assisting on only 28.57% of their FGs (0.50 AST/TOV-ratio)
- Within 180 seconds in 4th & OT outside garbage time, Mavs rank 10th in the league in D (allow 107.81 PP100). Last night: 198.16. Led to 14-6 Thunder run to end the game
- Dallas attempted more FGA in the paint (38-34), but made fewer (16-21)
- Thunder took 46 shots from outside 10 feet, only 33 within. Mavs 41-37
- Oklahoma City went 3-for-3 on corner threes. The Mavs took only four long 2FG (16+ feet), that's uncharacteristic.
Lineups:- The starting unit got outscored by 12.91 PP100 on 107.57 and scored only 25.82 in the paint
- But they outrebounded Thunder (58.33% - 38.46% ORB)
- Both teams combined for 46.15% from three with the Mavs starting unit on the floor
- Bench units were more successful, outscored OKC by 31.94 PP100 on 83.53 Def, set a series-high in Transition PP100 (29.48)
- They outscored the Thunder by 19.65 in transition and also by 14.75 in the paint and at the line
- Bench units also shot a series-high 62.83% TS and kept rebounding edge (52.78%)
- Both teams turned the ball over on 18.43% of the possessions, the most in any game vs. Thunder when the Mavs played a bench unit
- Best unit was Kidd-Terry-Carter-Marion-Ian (+63.48 PP100 on 46.16 Def). They outscored Thunder 19-8
- 46.16 Defensive Efficiency is actually the best value for a lineups this season vs. Thunder (min 10 possessions in a game)
- Terry had to play in the backcourt for the Mavs to be effective. The Jasons were a +16.19 PP100, Terry/West +4.71. Kidd and West were outscored 23-32 (-34.33 PP100)
- Lineups with Kidd/West in the backcourt also only scored 26.71 PP100 in the paint and shot 40.15% TS. Both series-lows for any backcourt with at least 20 possessions in a game
- Lineups /w Wood & Mahinmi worked, but with Wright Mavs got outscored by -59.80 PP100, allowed 162.31 on D, 111.06 in the paint and grabbed only 37.50% of the rebounds...
- Unadj. +/- to Terry (+46.72 PP100). Effs with him: 116.15 Off & 103.76 Def. Not loved: Wright, West, Dirk (rare sighting!), Kidd
Players:- Terry also ended up leading advanced stuff: 27.9 PER, 0.410 WS48, 0.481 WP48.
- Good games from Mahinmi, Kidd, Marion, Haywood. Delonte mediocre and Carter / Dirk contributed to the loss
- Best rebounder was Haywood at 19.4%, Terry leads team in TS% (100.0) and also assisted on 19.2% of Mavs FGs (Kidd leads that cat with 20.0%)
- Ian, Dirk and Wood were only 3-for-10 at the rim, but overall Dirk gets closer to the basket than usual, took 9 shots from 10-16 (made 6)
- Counterpart adjusted advanced metrics:
Code:
PlayerName oAdjPER oAdjWS48 oAdjWP48 oDiffPER oDiffWS48 oDiffWP48
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ian Mahinmi 41.34 0.474 0.804 22.05 0.219 0.512
Shawn Marion 13.44 0.248 0.412 -2.65 0.119 0.291
Jason Kidd 9.72 0.163 0.384 -8.87 0.049 0.009
Jason Terry 35.25 0.539 0.343 7.39 0.129 -0.138

Like i said all season long: Dirk isn`t Dirk anymore. He is out of his prime and declining. It sucks but you just can´t beat fathertime. His turnovers at the end were brutal and lost us the game.

The thing about that is, it only happened because he was forcing it. He kept getting the ball in horrible spots and he'd have to back his man down or split a double team to get in a decent spot. That also resulted in turnovers since Dirk had to work against double coverage constantly to get to his spot, instead of actually getting it in a good place.

I thought early on there were a couple borderline no calls on a Dirk shot attempt but I think it went both ways tonight. 5 players scored for OKC- odd. Good thing Westbrook is out of his shooting slump or this one would not have been real close. He seemed to get the open 15 footer at will. I think Dallas's front court is mediocre with Chandler gone and that's being generous.

Early on I felt like Dirk was determined to get to the rim, and he did but was hacked numerous times without a call. He pretty much got hit all game. I seriously hate playing OKC because our players get beat up all game, while they get cheap calls. However, this is a game we should've won. Up 7 with 2:00+ minutes we should've closed them out. And I'm pretty sure a Game 1 win would rattle that team. However, I do expect us to bounce back. But to win this series, we must be the aggressors. It should be us taking it to them on every play. I want us to go out there and remind these kids, that they are still our little brothers. We are the champs, and we're not ready to pass the torch yet. Get em in Game 2, Mavs.
