Does this mean we're amnestying Haywood? Or are we planning on keeping both?

Meh. I mean, I'm not unhappy with it. But meh.

Meh, at least they have put together a better offensive front court now. Looking forward to hearing details of the deal.

Sounds like it's a one-year deal (Eric Pincus). That's a nice, nice plus.

I like it a lot.
IDK why this means no Brand. Cap reasons? If not, as I mentioned a couple of days ago, a Marion-Nowitzki-Wright-Brand-Kaman-Haywood/Ian frontcourt rotation is STOUT.

Hopefully a large 1yr guaranteed deal with a 2nd yr. team option?
Highly unlikely though.

I like the pickup. Kaman's very underrated. A solid big man. Dirk and Kaman played together on the German national team so the chemistry should be there.

Good signing. He isn't a great player but he is a very solid player. He does everything decent-good but isn't outstanding in anything.
Very good pickup. He and Dirk man the zone while you have athletes (Cunningham/Marion and the like) on the perimeter challenging shooters.

Seems like Kaman and Brand would eat most/all of their cap space.
None left for guards.

I'm not counting on Kaman playing more than 60% of the games this year. That's his MO. Guy can't stay healthy.
Hence the "meh." Talented player, no doubt.

Agreed I would be extremely pleased with that coming into the next season. Back court is very young but that may not be so bad.
PG West/Roddy/Cunningham
SG Carter/Roddy/Cunningham
SF Marion/Crowder
PF Dirk/Brand/Wright
C Kaman/Haywood/Wright
Is this possible with the current cap?

Mavericks to sign free agent center Chris Kaman to a one-year deal paying $8 million, source tells Yahoo! Sports.

$8M is quite a bit, but one year is nice.

In terms of realistic options at Center (Not RFA), Kaman had to be in the top 2 free agents.

So this leaves us 2mil. under the cap to sign a guard like Delonte?
Unless Haywood is amnestied. Sound right?

8 million is not that much for a true center. Hell, McGee just got 10 million. And while McGee has a lot of upside, he is one of the biggest boneheads in the entire league.

Best offensive center in the Dirk era.

We're going to have to find Raef Lafrentz to take that crown from him.
I think this means no Ian or no Wood next year.

Wallace Bryant. Uwe Blab. Eric Montross. Wang Zhi Zhi. Chris Kaman. Yay.

I don't know all the cap/CBA stuff.... does him signing here mean the Mavs next year have his Bird rights?

Not bad. Now please dump Haywood. Courtney Lee to provide some athleticism and shooting would be nice.

At this point, I'm VERY excited to have a very serviceable player for only 1 year.
Great move by the FO guys.

1 year deal is great! Flexibility! (no sarcasm intended)
Good skilled, ambidextrous Center for the season and
in December becomes an expiring tradable asset.

Mavs definitely leveraged the Dirk angle with him. Gotta applaud that.

So....this means no Brand, right? Or it means they're going to bid very low on Brand.

It's like you said--gonna be under 5M. Lowball bid.
Clippers won Chauncey for what, 2M? Not impossible.

I was going to say...that alone makes it news. Finally a 5 guy with some offensive moves. Hey, considering how this offseason is going...this is pretty exciting.

Well would you rather have:
Dirk/Kaqman/Haywood or
Dirk/Kaman/Brand?
Because that looks like the only way they can still get Brand is to say goodbye to Haywood.

It seems silly to renounce the trade exception to sign Kaman outright, when they could S&T using the TE, which would keep them above the cap, and save the MLE. Now they'll only have the room exception once they've reached the cap, correct?

I'd say it would have to be way under 5 now. No more center minutes available.
