What is wrong with RC?
What has happened to that coach? He is calling horrible plays especially at the end of regulation and in OT and his rotations are just unexplainable.
Why would you not double team KD on that last possesion? Why would you bench a DC who at least got speed and play a 10 day contract 37 year old bum Mike James?? Why are Roddy and Wright out of the rotation completely? I mean more worse than Mike James? Why is Kaman sitting the whole second half and in OT. He can at least shoot and has shot it well early in the game.
What a playcalling was the last shot with 2,9 seconds left in OT? Giving Brand the Ball inside with 2,9 left??? Really??
I really liked RC but he is somehow losing his mind. I know this team ranks 30th in the league in Basketball IQ but come on.

Let's not act as if there were so much better alternatives on the bench. This roster is a mess.
Roddy - undersized, no shot, can't pass, TO prone
Collison - undersized, tunnel vision, TO prone, cant guard anybody, can't rebound (esp. against westbrook)
Wright - OKC ABUSED him last year during the playoffs on both ends
Kaman - can't pass the ball under pressure, plays bad D
OJ mayo - can't guard anybody (esp.Westbrook/Durant), throws the ball away under pressure
and so on.
This team needs an all star (type) point guard. That's the biggest priority. Cousins, Smith and co. bring us nothing without a solid back court.

Very bad defensive players. Nobody can run the P&R like Kidd/Terry/JJB did and nobody can rebound like Chandler. Cuban is the problem...

RC might be sending message to Cuban, you get me the PG that I want ( and probably he has one in mind ) or this the one that I used

Hell rc had to trot out two late game possessions with no pg, that's how bad ours are.

This is the answer to all of these supposed Coach Carlisle problems. He's not a perfect coach but he doesn't have a lot to work with right now. These pieces just don't quite fit.

Rick C. is a top 5 coach in this league.
look at this quote today......
this quote today from Mike Fisher at http://mavericks.scout.com/2/1255061.html
DONUT 5
Chris Paul and LeBron James simultaneously take to Twitter to praise the design of a single play, it’s ok to feel a little pride for your coach.
“@CP3 (Chris Paul): MAN, Did anybody see that play the Mavs just ran??”
“@KingJames (LeBron): Helleva play drawn up to get that look for OJ”
So, what happened?
Out of a timeout, Shawn Marion used a screen set by Elton Brand near the baseline to find space as he moved away from the inbounder, Vince Carter. The pass was a little high, carrying Marion out to the 3-point line at the opposite side of the court as the inbounds pass.
While Brand is setting a pick for Marion, Dirk, at the top of the key, moves away from Carter, setting a soft screen on Thabo Sefolosha, who is chasing OJ Mayo as he races towards Carter, giving the illusion that he is coming to get the inbounds pass.
Then, after the pass is thrown across to Marion, Mayo doubles back, racing towards Marion and the ball, as Dirk squares for a second screen on Thabo.
The space is created. The shot is there.
Mayo rises up over the too-late-to-close Thabo and Perkins (who had been guarding Dirk) and nails the game tying 3-pointer.
A thing of beauty, executed to perfection … even the bobble by Marion on the pass, that pulled him out a little further, couldn’t have worked out better.
"Their coach is unbelievable,'' said KD, crediting the architect of the play. "He does so many good things with those guys."

Let's be serious. He didn't call for the Mike James hail mary 3. When you have bad personnel, shit happens.
Also, gotta get him some vets with Bball IQ to work with. Carlisle's coaching style includes letting the players make the playcalling decisions because he trusts them. With Kidd and JET, you could get a good shot every single time down the floor. Now, you replace one of the basketball geniuses at the point with a mentally challenged basketball player in Collison, and a turnover prone Mayo.

This was the lineups he had for two lat out of bounds possessions. Both as you noticed didn't require anyone to bring it up.

Anytime you question RC, just listen to him talk. It will immediately refill your faith meter in him. James failed to get the ball to Dirk in the last seconds of OT, period. He just launched. That wasn't RC.
I'd imagine that every player in the league would love to have him as their coach/leader. That said, Coach should know by now that Mike James just isn't gonna cut it or take us any further than the PG's we have here.

Nor should Carlisle lose games to just get collison playing time. You can argue whether collison or James should be finishing games, but giving it to collison only to give what appears to be a pretty pedestrian pg time isn't a great decision either.

Sometimes i wish Rick would play Wright, Roddy, DoJo, Crowder and Collison 38min per game for a month or two. Some people desperately want to learn the hard way. Without a 20 games losing streak they probably do not get it.

Carlisle, but the point was meant to be a little bigger than one game.

But RC set that lineup. Plays don't always end up as planned and then it comes down to the talent on the floor. If Collison had been in and was forced to make that shot there is a much higher chance it would have gone in.

I'm speaking generally. Not on that play specifically. I have questioned his rotations and roster use at times as well.

His DMN article today blames Roddy for not producing and quotes RC that he has the opportunity to compete for rotation minutes or starting. That is a load of crap. RC benches the guy and gives him garbage time minutes. He imports Fisher and James and plays them ahead of him. Sefko's lips are planted firmly on RC's rear end.
RC wasted a year of Roddy's contract last year by giving Terry all of the minutes even though they had no plans to re-sign him. B
Mavs will only be good if Nelson can trade for veteran players. RC will not develop youngsters. What would Roddy look like if he had been coached by Popovich instead of RC?

Just the same Carlisle hates him so much that he would not play him anyway.

More hand wringing over a draft bust. Sigh...
Dude doesn't get minutes because he can't play NBA ball. He should be on some euro team. Wtf is hard to understand about that?

It's not just Roddy. RC needs a vet team to win. Player development isn't his thing. You see very little player improvement under RC. Look at Brewer in Dallas (end of bench)vs. Brewer in Denver(solid rotation guy).
Sarge is the best rebounding and defending big on the team. He only gets garbage time. Yet we waste time on Kaman.
If Cuban can buy RC a team the Mavs will win again. It won't be done with home grown talent under RC.
Spurs play all of their players all year long. That's why a Danny Green emerges. You don't see that happen under RC.

Man I get tired of this crap. We have maybe three starters ( maybe ) on this team and fans think that crap can be turned into gold with just the right coaching.
Corey brewer was on the Mavs for 13 regular season games!!! Thirteen dude. Somehow Carlisle is to be criticized for not developing BREWER instead of winning the damn championship. What a load.
The spurs play their draft choices because they know how to evaluate talent. They also do not trade out the entire team seemingly every few years. Tiago splitter for example has gotten about the same amount of playing time as roddy. But guess what, he can actually play and contribute consistently. Pops is just as hard on those guys as rick is, the difference is they are BETTER PLAYERS.

Well me too actually. The Mavs have been extremely patient with him. Certainly more than I would have been.

Billups and OJ Mayo would like a word with you.
"Billups strongly recommended that Mayo play for Rick Carlisle, who played a significant role in Billups achieving his potential. “He said (Carlisle) is a great coach for me to help expand my game,” Mayo said."
