Lets talk to the Magic or Denver as an third team.
Well shit, now other teams are looking into our idea wanting Rondo. Go away other teams!

Longhorn had a good point though. This is being discussed way too much to happen now..

Skin brings up the Cavs since they were rumored to be interested in Marion...
Jeff Wade @SkinWade 7m
A three-way with CLE and BOS seems to have some potential if Cavs still interested in Marion

Oh man, you haven't been through "discussed too much" until you've approached the level of the Doc Rivers deal... and that actually happened...

I'm a skeptical rabbit when it comes to Dallas acquiring stars and media rumors.
That said... how does Cleveland work?
Dallas gets Rondo
Cleveland gets Marion AND takes on Crash?
Boston sends Rondo AND takes back no major contract?
Seems like the salary in-out fails on 2 of 3 teams.

Have to say I'm mildly concerned. Not that I wouldn't like to have Rondo in the team, I just wouldn't take a lot of bad contract back in return only to get him.
And that's certainly what the Cs would want for their rebuilding process (or Dirk as it was stated by Stein on twitter... ).

I'm intrigued by these Mavs-Celts rumors. Would Dallas take on the Wallace/Lee/Bass contracts with Rondo for Larkin + Marion/VC expirings?

Not Vince Carter! We at least need our main 6th man offensively.

Wallace just got traded, he can't be included in a package deal for some time, no?

I love VC and how great he was last year, but in a deal that we would take Rondo and increase our chances for Howard, i wouldn't mind leave the Mavs.

He can be dealt on his own, separate from a main deal the Mavs would want to do with Rondo coming back.

This is too crazy. Getting Rondo for that is dope. Rondo is this generation's JKidd.
Are we short of cap for Dwight though? How do the cap holds work?

Wouldn't be surprised if mavs are leaking these rumors so Marion uses his eto as he doesn't want to be traded to a non contender

Hmmm.. not sure Rondo is worth trading Marion, Carter, Larkin, and another first for him on top of his salary. Rondo is after all coming off knee surgery and has a sizeable contract. Marion and Carter should definitely be able to be flipped by Boston once they got them.
It'd probably land us Dwight though so in the end it would be worth it.

Rondo is a bonafide top 5 PG and a rare pass-first dude. Good defender, excellent guy to build around.
Knee can be worrying (after seeing Rose take his sweet time) but Rondo is uber-competitive. He should be fine.
When healthy, his salary is a bargain IMO.

Good point, but it does seem almost certain that Marion gets moved if he doesn't exercise his eto.

Don't forget he's got a piss poor attitude. Don't get me wrong you make the deal if given the chance but it's not like we'd be fleecing the Celtics. They'd be getting quite a bit for a guy they are dumping anyways and who is also coming off a major surgery.

Makes you wonder, if we bring in Rondo and call up Dwight, would he be willing to take a small pay cut to play for the Mavs?
Next year's team would feature him Dirk and Rondo as our "big three" and the following season when Dirk plans to take a pay cut, they could bring in some more talent.
I think Rondo is the swing factor right now in the "Dwightmare" if we can pull him in i think that gets us Dwight.
Howard wants to win a ring and he wants to be the big man on a team. Rondo is a premier PG who will get him the ball in the paint. Harden will be a ball hog and his situation in Houston won't be much different than in LA. If it was about the money he would sign with LA but he doesn't like playing in Kobe's shadow or Dantoni's style of play.
If we can't bring in Rondo i think he ends up in Houston. Just like Deron Williams last season, he was ours until Cuban screwed up and Brooklyn brought in Joe Johnson.
Find a way to bring in Rondo and leave as much cap space as you can for Dwight and i think he chooses Dallas.
Once Dirk retires it will be his team, he can't say the same about Houston as long as Harden is there. Him and Rondo can team up and start to become the next face of the franchise and im sure Cuban would be willing to let those guys help select who they go after next off-season.

Boston is going to want to unload junk and take the expirings. Dwight would have to take a cut and probably a significant one to come to Dallas.
That's why Dwight has to be taken care of first.
That kills the notion of the "this".

No need to be concerned, because we won't be taking back any bad contracts, unless they know for sure Dwight is going to sign with Houston. If Rondo, Wallace, and Lee ends up on the Mavs, essentially killing our cap space for Dwight, you can be sure, they knew Howard wasn't coming.

I would still want Rondo even if we didn't get Dwight. You just can't pass up elite pgs and centers imho. We'd still have decent cap space if we got Rondo and not Dwight right?
Edit: Guess not if we're having to take on bad contracts.

Just had that thought myself. Other thoughts:
- The Cs asking for Dirk thing is so laughable, I'm convinced it's a leaked fabrication intended to drive up the price on Rondo.
- Surely the C's would rather have short term crap players + picks than VC and Shawn. Doesn't mean Dallas is out of it, because VC and Shawn can probably net some crap players and decent picks on the trade market. This might be about drumming up the market for those two just as much as it is about Rondo, assuming there's fire under this smoke.
- It looks to me like, purely for salary matching purposes, a trade with Shawn outgoing and Rondo incoming would get the job done. Obviously there'd be more assets going to Boston, but at least there's some structural flexibility.
- Assuming Dallas can line up a deal that would net them Rondo without costing them a shot at Dwight (whatever the ordering of all the moving parts), that'd have to make Dallas the strong favorite in the Howard chase, right? Of course, the funny thing is, I don't think Rondo is really the "right" guy to pair with DH because of his limited shooting range. Nonetheless, if you're Dwight, and you're legitimately looking for a good reason to escape LA, how do you do better than the the league's most unselfish superstar floor-stretching PF who's just arriving at a point in his career where he's ready to cede the spotlight to the next face of the franchise, AND (arguably, when healthy) the league's premier pass-first point guard? I don't think you do.

Boston should've unloaded junked when they shipped out Pierce/KG. Not sure what's going on over there.

I think not being stuck with an Gerald Wallace contract will help big time. 3 team trade could be the solution.

I look at the situation with Dirk and D12 being a lot like David Robinson and Tim Duncan. How did the passing of the torch work out for Tim Duncan?

It's hilarious how trading Vince is a dealbreaker for you when talking about acquiring top 15 guys like Rondo and Dwight.
Also, guys, we need to stop talking about the Celtics trading Wallace to a third team if someone else got involved. There's no way someone else jumps in to take that awful deal.
If we could get Rondo/Lee for Marion/Vince, I'd go with that and take our chances trying to fill out the rest of the roster unless Dwight was a sure thing.

Some brilliant "outside of the box" thinking, obviously, little to no chance of it happening, still, interesting idea.

If they're talking about waiving him, unless he's claimed by a team with cap space (which I have a hard time seeing), we'd be on the hook for his entire salary.

That said, the two teams don't appear to be comfortable trading partners in this situation. But there could be some creative ways around that.
As a C's fan I can say for sure Dirk would regularly get the easiest shots of his career if he played with Rondo.
I have no idea if the Celtics intend to keep Rondo or not.
(It's a bit of a relief to have the rebuilding underway.)

Since the Nets/Celtics trade hasn't happened couldn't we just join our trade with their trade? (After Howard signs of course) The only problem I see is that there is no way to give enough money to get both Wallace and Rondo without all our contracts.
Here is the only way I can see a Wallace trade working without changing a lot of other parts.
1. Sign Howard with a Big3 discount to start him at 17.4mill/year (So you can use Carter's salary in SnT and not have to get rid of him)
3. Trade Marion, Larkin, James, Akon, Crowder, and Carter (17.58mill = we can take back 22.58mill) + 2016 1st rounder for Rondo, Wallace (22.1mill)... Rondo + Bass + Lee would be too much (23.975mill).
4. You have Dirk, Howard, Wallace, Rondo… room exception + vet mins.
