Not gonna lie, this one stings a little more than Deron's decision. Even though i kinda expected it, it still hurts a little. Oh well, on to plan B, whatever it may be.

I won't lie: i'll be pretty salty if Dwight ends up in a Rocket uni. Him being in Houston would be the ultimate slap in the face to our city and organization.
Just stay a laker or go to GSW.

Woj now has it in back-to-back tweets that Dwight narrowed his choices down to Hou/LA before GS deals, and that GS has not been informed hat they've been eliminated, and haven't stopped trying to land him.
Twitter cracks me up

Agreed. He just used Dallas. No reason to really expect him to sign here. One thing for fans to get fooled. the fact is that the FO of the Mavs got "punked" for the 2nd straight year...

I too hope he goes to GS just so I can laugh at the Rockettes fans. Actually, I'll laugh at them either way. Cause Houston.

Instead of waiting for a guy that obviously wasn't interested in us to begin with, Cuban and his guys should've been wheeling and dealing trying to build around Dirk so he can win a title within the next couple of years.
Maybe we would've become more attractive to Dwight in the process.

Can't do stuff with money when no one wants to come here...at this point our best bet at improving this team is to acquire draft picks and good ones.

It seems like teams didn't react to the CBA the way Cuban expected. That might've been the real mistake.

I'm torn trying to decide which team I'd rather see him go to. Would be nice if something for the Mavs materialized out of his eventual choice. So I guess by that logic, as long as he doesn't go back to LA...

That's next to impossible without another top 10 player, why can't you guys understand this? Cuban never gave up anything, in fact he gave the franchise a chance.

Well, now what? I'm still convinced we can put together a great team with the money that we've got. Dirk will still come off the books next year. Time to dig in.

Tanking is not an option while we still have Dirk and Trading Dirk isn't an option.
If Cuban trades Dirk and tanks this year he should committ seppuku afterwards.

Bingo. Teams are still spending like wildfire. But hey, people make mistakes. He just needs to make up for it with a killer plan b.

I still think they had a chance. Dwight, like Deron, was just waiting for the team who makes the best moves, that's why the Warriors jumped ahead of the Mavs in the sweepstakes. I think Cuban's mistake was not moving Marion and Carter.

Plan E?
A) Deron - no
B) Short term contracts - no
C) Chris Paul - no
D) Dwight - no
E) Overpay guys worse than the guys you refused to fairly compensate when this whole thing started?

Trade Dirk to a contender. Trade Marion/Carter. Take some expiring contracts. Get a Top 3 pick in 2014 with tons of cap room

Moving them for who? We could have only created more capspace with them, they are not assets at this point in their careers, come on. Cuban can't pull rabbits out of hats, he had nothing to work with in the last few years. Even on our championship roster, we didn't have a single asset. I don't blame Cuban at all, that was the only way, creating capspace, and trying to convince players. Didn't work out, it's nobody's fault.

Unique situation with Dirk, fortunately, and unfortunately at the same time.

This will be a red wedding style offseason losing out on Dwight to Houston and watching Dirk chase after a ring with another team.

Cuban gambled twice and lost. Brooklyn and Houston are looking good now for Williams and Howard.

I could live with Asik/Dirk/Jack. #7 seed right there.

I'm happy he is at least in Texas. Always a good day when the Lakers get snubbed.

Is HOU able to sign him outright or will they have to move more pieces?

@mcuban: I actually think its better that we didn't get D12. We'll try for Lebron next year, but if we don't get it, it was probably for the best.

I like our chances playing within the Southwest Division... with our historically great interior defense at least Dwight will have a hard time dominating us four times a year.

Houston is probably a 2nd round type team with what they have now, but it hurts to see Howard choose Houston over Dallas, and Dirk not having a legit 2nd superstar to team with for the first time in his career really.
Cuban better have something up his sleeve for this year, i'm tired of being sold on "Wait until....20XX"
