Talking Lebron signs with Clevelans

Lebron signs with Cleveland...Houston will match Parsons offer & Bosh will sign with Houston.

Cuban swings and misses for 3rd offseason in a row. This offer sheet seems petty now, IF theres no true backup plan(scrambling for scraps doesnt count)

There are still names out there that would make free agency a success.

Ariza, Stephenson and yes, Dwayne Wade.

But several teams had contracts lineup up post LeBron, Deng might be already gone to the Suns and we are handcuffed till Sunday. I'm slightly pessimistic.

If I'm Houston, do I really want to tie up 15 million at SF, when I also need a PG and a bench? I could spend 4 or 5 on Marion, because I really don't need much offensive help from the 4 spot. Then I could build out a better team. Its what Miami should have done to maximize its's big 3. As a result, they were 1 jump shot away from losing in the finals 3 of 4 times.

Competitively, we might be better off if they got Parsons and ended up in a bind. Harden Bosh and Howard with some quality parts would be more formidable that that group, Parsons and a bunch of scrubs.

In hindsight though, I wonder how Cuban and Donnie were thinking this would turn out. They reportedly made the move anticipating LeBron to Cleveland and Bosh to Houston.

Morey already had the cap-clearing moves lineup up for Lin and Asik. Did they underestimate Houston's willingness to be tax spenders?

Or they wanted to force Houston to actually pay 15 + million a year to Parsons with a player option and trade kicker? I mean people act like Dallas is getting screwed here. What would of been sad is if Houston got to keep Parsons for 10-12 million a year. Dallas had to step up to keep Houston honest. Sure they can keep Parsons, but now they are stuck overpaying him.

Damn, Lebron rains on our parade. Although, I don't think anyone was planning a parade.

Please for the love of all that is holy not Dwayne Wade.

I say Stephenson.

But it does nothing for Dallas' roster at all. Now if once Houston matches, we offer big contract to Stephenson/Ariza, then ill let it go. But at this moment it looks like another mistake in a pile of mistakes since 2011

Yes on the Parsons front it was a win-win. Parsons contract was valueable only to use because of Dirk's discount so Houston either overpays and commits big-time or loses him to a contender in its own division.

But in the big picture we risked a lot more than winning a private skirmish with Morey.

dozens of plan Bs have been posted in other threads and it's not like the MBT isn't talking to other guys right now. They may not be free to sign other guys, but they can offer the money to other people once it clears.

We are on the same page. I just think its a little early to jump ship. Let's ride this out. We got 3 days to wait... if Cuban and Donnie can get aggressive and convince one of their targets to wait out the period then we are good. It's all about the pitch (which we apparently suck at).

I just don't them finding the right team who wants Lin. His contract is brutal. Hopefully that stalls till Monday trying to trade him.

If they don't get Bosh, they recognize that they couldn't even win a first-round series with home court last year, so they'll need some more work before competing for titles. With that in mind, they will presumably consider taking a cheaper SF (Deng/Ariza) and using that extra flexibility to improve the roster elsewhere.
Oh really? I didn't think they wanted to get anywhere near that luxury tax.

They generally take a conservative fiscal approach, but apparently they believe they need to go full-throttle "win now" mode if they get Bosh.

Ironically, I still really don't think that's a championship team. It's a great top four and then an atrocious roster after that.

They have something in the works with Philly. If the 76ers would be smart, they'd let them bleed because they know Houston is desperate. Problem: Both GMs are pals so I don't see it.

Houston has the whole weekend to work it out, it's gonna happen.

I'm not discouraged by this offseason at all. I was more so discouraged by how much we offered Parsons.

There are a few guys out there that can help this team and are young guys and shouldn't cost too much. Andray Blatche, Aminu, Evan Turner, Ed Davis..........to me these are guys like Brandon Wright, Monta or Brandon Bass who simply need outlet and a chance to shine and new scenery might be beter for them.

Stephenson will be more expensive and is still out there. For the life of me I don't know how Stephenson isn't our #1 option right now even over Parsons.

The offseason can clearly still be a success...but, alot of people don't have faith in the Mavs front office anymore. I can't say that I blame them.

I don't either. Its a solid lineup but their lack of a point guard......if they still had Lowry....wow. Or even Dragic.......funny that for a team with no point guard that who two of them who had good years last year.

I honestly think Dallas is in good shape either way. If we get Parsons, fantastic! He'll be a great fit here. And it's not by any means a forgone conclusion that Houston is able to unload Lin and Asik before Sunday. If they do, the teams taking them on know for a fact that they have the advantage now. I'm not the first one to point it out, but New Orleans had BETTER demand a better trade than the one they'd previously agreed to.

So if we don't get Parsons, I think there are better options out there. I still think Stephenson is by far the best player available (Carmelo excepted, obviously) and if Dallas can sign him to a similar deal they gave Parsons, but cheaper, I'd consider it a huge win.

If it's Ariza and Thomas instead, I like that, too.

And if there's one thing the past few off-seasons have shown me, it's that our front office usually has something up its sleeve that we didn't see coming.

I believe the Mavs will do enough to be competitive..to be a lower tier playoff seed. But, I don't believe that they'll be able to put together a team that competes for the west.

The last 3 offseasons. Of course theyve thought about it, but actually executing a plan that works well is where Im pessimistic.

Whether or not that's a fair belief as a normative matter, it certainly isn't a fair belief based on the Parsons offer sheet. Mavs have done nothing wrong here (except arguably offer him too much money, but all that does now is put Houston in a bind).

I think it is an incredible piece of revisionist history to say that the Mavs haven't capably executed offseason plans over the past 3 years. I think you are confusing "they couldn't convince top-tier free agents to sign in Dallas" with "they don't know how to execute a plan." Every time one of those guys has spurned them, they've figured out a way to fill out the roster with quality players on good deals (or, in a few cases, perceived quality players who didn't pan out like everybody expected).

Made playoffs 12 out of 13 years. There is absolutely zero reason for people to be skeptical. Does everything work out perfect everytime? No... but I would say people should be more thankful for how great we as Mavs fans have had it since Cuban took over. STFU and enjoy actually mattering (see rockets last 15 years).

For those acting like it was a mistake to sign Parsons to the offer sheet, please note: 1) it put a financial burden on Houston, 2) it complicated any intentions Houston might (does) have to use Parsons as a trade asset, 3) there's nothing to prevent Dallas continuing to negotiate with their other FA targets, which they've reportedly been doing, while the wait to see what Houston ultimately does, and since those FAs think/know Dallas' money will still be there come Monday, they have every incentive to wait if both sides can agree to terms, and 4) Dallas, by setting the terms of Parsons' contract, was able to put him on a Mavs/Dirk-friendly timeline (same opt-out year and same year to end of contract as Dirk), which may help enrich the free-agent crop the next time Dallas is an active shopper.

This is how I feel about it. If you're judging this off-season by "will Dallas be able to compete for a championship next season?" then okay, you're probably going to be disappointed. But will we be better next year than we were this year? Yeah, I feel pretty confident we will. Will we still have a tremendous amount of flexibility to improve again next off-season? Yes, almost certainly. That's enough for me.

Sefko says they'll go after Ariza before Deng. And if you get Ariza for 10 a year, then you have more space to work with to sign someone else.

Depth won a championship last season over multiple stars. Give me a deep team please.
