BG posted a page or two ago that Cuban said he had no intention of lowering Dirk or Harris' contract. He said (and I might be paraphrasing) "I wouldn't do that to those guys".

I can't imagine any scenario in which the Mavs are comfortable playing Monta at point for any extended period of time. That's just not a recipe for success. It's really too bad we don't still have Jason Kidd around- he and Ellis would be perfect together. That's what you need when you have an undersized, lightning fast shooting guard- a big point guard who can guard the other team's 2 and shoot the three.

The only reason Mavs have yet to sign Dirk and Harris is so that they can stay under the cap to help some of their old guys get better salaries, possibly picking up some cash or second rounders in the process.
Marion and Blair both need a place to play and as long as we don't sign Dirk and Harris, we'll be under the cap enough to do sign-and-trades so we can sign both guys for more then the minimum and trade them away to teams over the cap. The only limitation is that we can only receive picks, cash and rights to players and cannot get players in return or Dirk/Harris will have to get less, which Cuban has said won't happen.

We can't trade them to teams over the cap without receiving something back in salary unless the other team has a trade exception (assuming Marion/ Blair get more than the min.)

TE or a third team to absorb salary would do.

He could... But we could also go over the cap to re-sign him and keep him in Dallas long-term.

@ESPNSteinLine: ESPN sources say Dirk Nowitzki has taken bigger pay cut than previously thought. Deal finalized today at three years, $25 mil for Mavs lifer
@ESPNSteinLine: Anticipated deal for Dirk was a structure like Tim Duncan's deal w/Spurs, but he took $5 mil less to help facilitate Chandler Parsons move

In all honesty we are looking at a Chandler Parsons scenario but with the roles flipped. We will shoot for a Love, Aldridge, Gasol, and tell MOnte to opt out and look at his options. We will then either land one of the big 3 and match Monte's 12 mill a year offer (my projection) or miss on the superstars and resign ourselves to keeping the same team but flip flopping Chandler and Monte's contracts.

Curious on what is reason is. Obviously still trying to make a play if this is the case. Is it for Miller or Mo or both? Stephenson?

Based on this how can anyone argue we overpaid for Parsons. Ok so he gets more money, but Dirk is essentially paying for him personally. LONG LIVE THE 7 FOOT GERMAN!

Dirk is going to be making about the same as Monta Ellis per year...

That is so funny - those are the exact 2 words I said to myself when I read the news (Jesus Dirk)... No lie!
How lucky we are as fans of this franchise to have Dirk as our cornerstone. I mean, really.

And whatever player Dirk wants, I want too. That's why Ellis isn't going anywhere.

Wow. Stunned. No words. I wish I could marry Dirk just to tell him how loyal he is. Cuban/Mavs owe this man another ring.
I would like to know if Dirk or Cuban initiated this Sunday night thing

A demigod he is. I would assume that Dirk's a cheap ass and has all $80M from his deal 4 years ago.

So now in addition to the $2.7M remaining there is another $2M to add to that total. Its clear that the MBT are not done as Donnie mentioned yesterday, but I wonder what do they have in mind?
Mike Miller?
Mo Williams?
Lance Stephenson?

The Sunday night was a joke, if you're talking about the tweet posted above about the WC final.

Not to harp on this now, but could we potentially send Wright, a couple of the younger cheaper guys (Mekel/Ledo for just shy of 2M), a 2M trade exception and 2 1st round picks to Indiana IF we wanted to for a resigned Stephenson at 10M per (may have to add someone else or whatever to get the money right)? Just thinking that now we wouldn't necessarily HAVE to include Felton since most thing he's a deal breaker...

Anyone with me on the Rondo train?
I honestly see no weaknesses with a Rondo/Ellis/Parsons/Nowitzki/Chandler starting 5.

If the Mavs want Stephenson all is needed is Wright and Felton's contract which will net you $9M ...thats pretty much overpaying him now that his stock is
dropping by the minute.

For some odd reason this board seem to think that Rondo and Monte does not mesh as both have an incosistent shots and their strengths lie in driving ....my thoughts is that Rondo is a fit for ANY team, shot or no shot.

Totally on board, but I'm not sure if the Celtics couldn't do better than what we can offer... But he is a UFA next summer, and Dirk's discount extends over the length of his contract, so add another ~$2m to what we can offer Rondo outright.

We're already signing vets at the min (Jefferson)
And we traded for guys at the min (Smith)
Only reason Dirk hasn't signed yet is because we want the cap room to sign and trade Marion and Blair so they can get bigger deals. Once they have a home, Dirk will get a deal.

Backcourt shooting as the lone negative, I would still be on board for this too (assuming he's signed - no trading for 1 year mess).

Adding Rondo would make us instant contenders IMHO. All 5 players can play pick and roll. Zach Lowe would never stop writing about our offense lol.
Plus, you add Rondo's defense to Tyson's anchor. Goodness gracious.

Backcourt shooting (lack of) is somewhat negated by our frontcourt shooting. With Rondo and Monta probing, and Chandler and Dirk spotting up, Nellie may come back from the dead just to go to the games.
