Poked around on Gibson. Seems he had ankle surgery and may not be back for camp? Portia showed well at Summer league and they have PF depth. Also a tax team and Reinsdorf notoriously cheap. Surely Chicago can get more then 2nd rd picks and cap relief for Gibson, right? I really hope we hang on to Justin and Powell. Unfortunately they are our only real assets- other than cap space. Damn Rondo trade...kind of shit happens when you abandon your analytics and scouting.

Also, I understand keeping the MLE available for buyouts in-season. But wouldn't it make more sense to have given that to JJB and kept capspace to absorb a salary? I know Felton can be stretched to open up more space. Or do I have the order wrong? Maybe they have to use the exceptions last? Reason I ask is it would take some maneuvering to fit Gibson or someone with a higher salary

So has it always been common place to do this on the undrafted player negotiations and trying to get them to back out of verbals or is this the new NBA after Deandre Jordan discovered he in fact does not have testicles of his own?

I think this has happened before but in a lesser scale. Teams now are probably more encouraged to do so even if things go public thanks to noname player from Houston.

Darn, I was really hoping JET would come back home this season. Love that guy and I'll always be rooting for him except for when he plays us.

Agree....might as well suit up Harp, Ro and Brad if we're going to do something like that.
But we actually have several guys (Dirk, Sammy, Barea, Harris, Williams, Felton, Zaza, and Charlie) over 30.

Idk man, JET did a lot for us during his tenure here. I just really never liked that we seemed to give up on him the moment he started to lose a step. Look at a player like Manu Ginobili who's lost more than a step. There are times out there that Manu looks like he should just flat out retire. But the Spurs never gave up on him and he still continues to be a solid player for them up till now. Same thing with Jet, even though he's not the same player anymore he's still a solid player. And he's still clutch. Difference is we tried to replace Jet with OJ Mayo. Jet still has a lot of game left. Hell, the Rockets got to the WCF with him as their starting PG last season. Jet was right to stay in Houston, they're a better team than us.

I guess I missed all the guys who just turned 31 on the same day (Williams, Felton, Barea)... And I totally forgot about Dalembert.

The problem is he would get a lot of minutes and kill us defensively. He wasn't a good defender in his prime and is terrible now. Add that to the defensive liabilities of Dirk along with the age of the two and it would be a nightmare.
All JET would do is take away developing time from younger players like Anderson and Jenkins and our success yields would be about the same.

Nobody's had a harder-luck offseason than the Mavericks, who thought they had landed one of free agency's biggest prizes, DeAndre Jordan, only to see Jordan change his mind at the last minute. Dallas was able to regroup by dealing almost nothing of value to get Pachulia and signing Williams for a fraction of what he had been making with the Brooklyn Nets. However, giving more money to Matthews (who got the maximum $70 million over four years despite the ruptured Achilles he suffered in March) and Barea (whose deal swelled from less than $6 million for two years to $16 million over four) compounded the loss of Jordan. The Mavericks haven't built a certain playoff team for next season, and they're in worse position to chase top free agents next summer because of the money they spent on Barea and Matthews.
They rest of the teams get an A or B, except for Sac who also gets a D.

Just wondering what our team core would look like right now if Jordan would have initially rejected Mavs offer.
My guess:
Harris/Barea/Felton
Matthews/Anderson/Jenkins
Parsons/Aminu/RJ
Dirk/Powell/Charlie
Chandler/Dalembert/Sarge
So essentially we traded Chandler/Aminu/RJ for Zaza/Williams because of Jordan's indecisiveness.
Am I missing something???

The Kings waived this kid, Eric Moreland, who is a bit intriguing. Led the Pac 12 in rebounds and blocked shots. He is 6'10" and weighs about 230, but according to his profile on DraftExpress he is an "above the rim" PF/C. The good news is he had a PER of 40.93 last season. The reality is that he only played 3 games and averaged less than one minute per game. Sorry about that gotcha. Regardless of this lack of playing time, I think he is an interesting prospect because at first glance he reminds me of Brandan Wright.

I never read any of his work with any sort of validity. I recall back in '11 he had brought up hollinger rankings and why mavs were ranked so poorly. It was an in depth article that ended with him saying he would take the margin of victory stat over a teams record being good in close games and that he considered mavs winning close games to be an outlier basically even though he cited Cuban as specifically saying he wanted guys like Kidd for the final moments of games over *perceived* better players.
He also graded the Knicks Mavs Tyson trade as Mavs C+ and Knicks B+ some time into last season he was asked to revisit the grade on twitter I believe and he said he wouldn't because of the "randomness" involved and that he must have confused Chandlers lack of health with sleepwalking. Basically giving us no credit for utilizing him and keeping him healthy.
Also before Deandre ever committed to us he was eluding to us having no depth and a poor overall roster even if we did land Jordan. I'd guess even if we got Jordan he wouldn't have given us better than a C+ based on his past work of Mavericks.
--Edit-- I am curious to know what he said about the Suns now that I recall his Tyson trade grade talk. They got a B or better for signing the same guy (and signing him long term with his history of health) we traded for and got a C+.

So, how in the hell does Portland get anything but an F with 3 of their 4 best players gone? Including them letting a super star in his prime, LMA leave? Nonsense.
I know the Deandre debacle was high profile, but how come Portland has gotten literally zero flake in the media? They go from the 4th seed in the West playoffs, to the NBA gutter most likely, and not a word on it. It's all about Dallas being ruined.

He even gave Denver an A or B? I mean... cuz dumping Lawson for scraps when he had much higher value up until it was too late and doing nothing is worthy of a B or better as long as your not the Mavericks I guess.

Well stated. Regardless of all of Doc's comments the Clips whole organization encouraged lying. Jackson comes back less than a month later and encourages that same crap. The league needs to clean up.

So what is the scoop on Jenkins?
What are his strengths and weaknesses?
Any chance he will be a difference-maker?
I know he is a good shooter but beyond that I know nothing about his game.
Pardon my ignorance but I never follow the EC very closely.

Denver Nuggets
Added: Will Barton (re-signed), Joey Dorsey (trade), Nick Johnson (trade), Nikola Jokic (draft rights), Emmanuel Mudiay (draft), Jameer Nelson (re-signed)
Lost: Ty Lawson (trade)
Grade: B+
While the Nuggets will bring back a relatively similar cast, they've made an important change at point guard. Denver was in position to scoop up Mudiay when he fell to seventh in the draft, and he looks like a steal after a promising performance at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Mudiay's presence enabled the Nuggets to deal Lawson to the Houston Rockets, albeit surely for less in return than they hoped before Lawson's latest arrest on DUI charges. The team used its cap space in part to renegotiate the contracts of veteran forwards Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, signing them to extensions that keep them out of free agency next summer. Denver also hired Michael Malone as head coach, getting a good defensive coach who might not be an ideal fit at altitude.
Phoenix Suns
Added: Devin Booker (draft), Tyson Chandler (FA), Brandon Knight (re-signed), Jon Leuer (trade), Ronnie Price (FA), Mirza Teletovic (FA), Sonny Weems (FA)
Lost: Gerald Green (FA), Marcus Morris (trade), Brandan Wright (FA)
Grade: B
Phoenix's big addition was Tyson Chandler, signed for $52 million over four years. That's a risk given Chandler's age and up-and-down career, but he'll be a major upgrade defensively, and if anyone can keep him on the court as he advances into his mid-30s, it's Phoenix's highly regarded athletic training staff. Chandler's presence wasn't enough to lure Aldridge, and the Suns might not have traded Marcus Morris if they knew Aldridge would go elsewhere. Still, the Suns were able to use Morris' salary to sign Teletovic as a replacement and keep their cap clear for a run at Kevin Durant in the summer of 2016.
Blazers
Added: Al-Farouq Aminu (FA), Pat Connaughton (draft), Ed Davis (FA), Gerald Henderson (trade), Luis Montero (FA), Mason Plumlee (trade), Noah Vonleh (trade)
Lost: Wesley Matthews,Arron Afflalo (FA), LaMarcus Aldridge (FA), Nicolas Batum (trade), Steve Blake (trade), Robin Lopez (FA)
Grade: B-
Nobody suffered a greater talent drain this summer than Portland, which lost four of five starters between free agency and trades. Yet once Aldridge's departure became inevitable, a change of direction was the right move for the Blazers, who would have struggled to compete in the West without their star. By pivoting quickly, the Blazers positioned themselves to rebuild around point guard Damian Lillard, who signed a five-year extension that will kick in during the 2016-17 season. Aminu and Davis figure to prove good values as the cap rises, and Vonleh has the chance to be Aldridge's long-term replacement at power forward.

Those Grades are a joke and click bait.
Portland has lost 4 of their 5 Starters and will go from a 50+ Win Team to a 20 Win Team. They overpaid for Aminu. That would have been a good addition if they kept Aldridge and the rest, now he is the 2nd best player on this team.
The Suns paid 52M$ for an already 32 yr old Tyson. Not a bad deal for a contender, but certainly not for the Suns who will be fighting for the 8th Seed. In the meantime they gave away young talent in this deal and also lost one of the best bench scorers in the league.
They brought in nothing but JAGs besides Chandler.
Denver is a joke. How do they get a B+. Mudiay was an obvious pick at 7 and they get praised like they found the diamond in the rough?
They lost their best player for nothing basically and are ruling out the same team that was horrible last year again. They are paying 15M$+ the next years for Danilo Freakin Gallinari. That alone should give them an F for the next 3 years straight.
And that Writer says Dallas cant afford big FA next year with the massive cap rise?
Williams is basically on a 1yr deal. Same for a lot of other guys. Barea will earn 4M a year which isnt perfect but he proved to be important to us and with the cap rise this is basically close to a Vet Min Deal.
Matthews of course is a risk but the guy is in is prime with 28. With the new cap rise his deal is worth it if he contributes like he did before the injury.

Mejri just officially signed.
Probably camp fodder, but has a game like Chandler's and we need a third center. Limited offensively, but beastly defensively and some decent finishes down low.

Cortana just told me about the new 3 year non-guaranteed signing. I hope he is awesome. I really hope our young guys do awesome during training camp and force some other guys to leave.

Then again, he only averaged 5pts, 2.5reb, 0.88 blocks and only got 9mpg
You can be optimistic, and say that that is 19.8pts , 9.9 rebs, and 3.5 blocks per 36 min
On the other hand, he's only getting 9.1 mpg in the Spanish league as a 29-year-old and stats don't necessarily scale.

I would like to understand why he only gets 9.1 mpg. Right now I wonder who makes more sense between him and McGee.

He just has to beat out Powell for third string which will also be good competition for Powell.
Then again, these partial guaranteeds are so prevalent that I'm not sure who is any good.

More like Fanous. Rick thinks Powell is a stretch 4
Zaza/Dally/Famous/ Mejri
Dirk/Charlie/Powell/N'Dour
Chandler/Evans/Wilson/Ashley
Matthews/Harris/Anderson/Jenkins
Williams/JJB/Felton
Only two of those six bolded players can make it
19/20 guys for the pre-season roster. Only 15 can make the team with 12 active

I'd say one big (Famous/Mejri/N'Dour) and a wing (Jenkins/Wilson/Ashley), but if the Mavs are smart they'll treat this as a make-up draft for the Satnam pick and just take the two best players overall.

Training Camp Body nothing more.
Mejiri could not get minutes on a very good european Team.
He was actually last in the big man rotation. They played Gustavo Ayon, Jannis Boroussis, Felipe Reyes and Marcus Slaughter before him.
Non of those guys is close to NBA Quality.

Don't you think the Mavs will still dump Felton? That would give one more player a chance. I still hope we don't pursue anyone like Boozer.

I like Jenkins to get one of the spots. I guess it all depends on what happens at camp. I feel like Felton would have been moved by now if it were going to happen. It could still happen midseason pre-trade deadline if something is there.
