GDT game 19 - Hornets (11-9) at Mavs (4-15) 7:30 FSSW/FSSE
Hornets come to town only 4-6 over the last 10. Mavs are 2-8.
Injury report
Dirk - achilles - out indefinitely
Barea - achilles - out a few weeks
Harris - toe - minute restrictions
Curry - sprained knee - questionable, but did practice
Williams - hamstring - cleared to go to 30mpg. Slight minute restriction
Mavs are going to have to play hard to get back to the top of the lottery ball chances (25%). After our win against the Bulls, we're no longer dominant in that category. Lost 5.1% chance of a first overall when we won and Philly lost. There is a new challenger in the tank battle.

I fear another victory. On the plus side, mayby Philly finally wins a game too. Of course the best case scenario would be a Mavs L and a Sixers W. Fingers crossed. Let's go otter squad, show us something bad again!

The winter otter predicted the Mavs will have a 10 game winning streak, which began against the Bullies... then, the Mavs WILL be a playoff team and thus will have to think about balls otter than lottery (basket balls)....
Mavs - 107
Horntters - 100

LOL, we would have to be like a 60-win pace team from here on out to make the playoffs, are you serious?

Exactly. Not 60 wins-- we'd need to go 40-23 over our last 63-- in other words, to be a 53-win pace team for the remainder of the season, winning 63.5% of all upcoming games. Point is correct though. We've dug quite a hole.
With this talent, we could easily be a .400-.500 team the rest of the year and end up between .350-.450, which is a no-mans land. Too bad to make the playoffs, and not bad enough to get a valuable pick. Even in deep drafts, there is very little talent on average beyond the first 5.

As long as we finish in the bottom 10% we'll be fine.
Besides Philly will draft 6'10" or over so our guy will be there.

I don't necessarily want to see us intentionally tank but would rather love to see us try to win with youth. If guys like Barnes, Powell, Anderson, Curry, DFS, Hammons, and Brussino can carry us to the POs I'd be more than happy because that would indicate these guys are blossoming. But fighting for the last PO spot primarily with a core of Matthews, Dirk, DWill, Harris, Bogut and even Mejri and Barea is not something I would consider progress.
However I could understand the argument that keeping those vets off the court would be a form of intentional "tanking".

Thing is, we probably finish this season out around 37-45. Mavs are going to try and win games as much as possible. 33-30 is possible for this team as long as we have two of Deron/Harris/JJ and everything else stays constant. We really have to do something extra to ensure a top 3 pick (like trading Bogut in December to a contender)

I hope you are wrong. I think we are still the worst team based on SRS, and until we put together a winning streak, I'm hopeful. Winning 35-37 games, or even 30, would be really, really bad. In fact, I think it would be completely idiotic on a franchise level. If we do that, we deserve to be a treadmill team.

Really not worried about winning too many games. In the Chicago game they had just come off a b2b vs Cleveland. That game had a hell of a lot more meaning to them than the Mavs game. And it was by far our best performance and we still only managed 107 points. And that took them being on a b2b, Wes having his best night this season, Powell having a career night, Deron having his Mavs high in assists, Bogut nearly having a double double in the first quarter... etc... If Chicago had been rested and had Wade does anyone think we score 107? Does anyone think Chicago can't get 107+ on us if it became a fast pace game? The other win was the Pelicans. And Wes in that game had his best game until the Chicago game. And instead of Powell having a career night, it was Simba's best game of his career according to RC. We also held them to 81(held Chicago to 82). I just don't see how the formula we have shown so far for winning is remotely sustainable for even 30 games if it takes Wes having 6+ 3's efficiently, a bench player having a career night or at minimum season best, and lock down defense throughout... meaning we have to actually defend the 3pt line.

Deron needs to ISO it more. He has so many tricks up his sleeve in ISO, and the team needs it.

Looked like hyper-extension, I'd be surprised if he missed more than a few games, so I'd bet it won't affect it.

Ok if Dwill plays like a NBA pg then I might have to revise my statement. This team looks totally different when he's playing like he has the last 2 games, especially setting others up.

Bogut will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury. A source told ESPN that the injury is not believed to serious enough to cause Bogut to be out for a long term.

Would love a Barnes 30 point competitive losing effort by a Wes airball or something.

If Dwill continues to make the offense look like an actual NBA offense though I'm not sure we can stay at 30 lol. Last 2 games he's been doing a good job setting everyone up. Especially Wes and Powell.

Lots to like about this game, future-wise... But:
