But yeah, lost in the Yogi hype is how well Barnes played this game. 24 pts, 11 rebounds, 3 assists is fantastic.
Oh even in my post I said it wasn't the full story. I don't think he's been that effective personally (which the stats reflect), but he's absolutely wrecked it when it comes to team +/-. He's had a phenomenal impact on the team's effectiveness. It's a small sample size, but he's our leading +/- guy. Our second best? Pierre Jackson. Obviously both guys have benefited from a schedule where we've been at or above .500 vs. .200 early in the season (Ferrell's +/- are based on 2-0), but the fact that Jackson and now Ferrell are some of our best +/- guys shows just how important having an aggressive PG who plays with fire is.

Deron is skilled for sure, but dude plays like a veteran rental just going through the motions. If this was NBA2k I'd play Deron because of his stats, but the team plays down to his lower energy level when he's on the floor and up to the energy level of Jackson and Ferrell when they're playing.

PG +/- this season
Ferrell +16.1 (#1 in +/-)
Jackson +14.1 (#2 in +/-)
Barea +5.6 (#3 in +/-)
Deron 0.0 (#6 in +/-)
Harris -0.1 (#7 in +/-)

there are obviously some flaws to the +/- stats (Harris plays with subs so he's low, Jackson's stats are inflated by when he plays), but it's pretty clear that our dynamic/aggressive guards are one of the single best indicators of how well we play. We need Ferrell or someone like him.

This is exactly how I see the Yogi situation vs DWill. Even Barnes played with more aggression on both ends than I've seen him play. The team seems very complacent when DWill is running the show but full of energy when Jackson/Ferrell (sounds like someone from Gilligan's Island) are running the O.

Also, don't get too attached. We can talk contracts for the next 6 days, but once that 10-day is up we have zero advantage on their teams when it comes to signing Ferrell. Even if we wanted a 1-2 year, Yogi could take the exact same 1-2 year with Cleveland to play for a contender. Only loyalty to the team that scouted him plays our way.

Reigning champs desperate for a backup PG. they just saw Ferrell dominate them.

Possible but Cleveland aint about that personnel. They have Lance stephenson coming in to blow into Lebron's ear and other vet scrubs

Yogi is under contract with us. And possibly for rest of the season maybe more.

Absolutely. He's ours, under contract, and no one can even talk to him without our permission...until Sunday night

But he'll be a FA in the off-season which is when we could make another run at him.

Couldn't we just cut a player before Sunday to create a roster spot to sign Yogi for the rest of the year?
Not sure how that works.

He still would have to agree to the deal.

Pretty sure he is on a 10 day contact. No need to cut anyone. I assume we could just offer him a contract through the rest of the year if we wanted to.

You'd still have to trim the roster back down to 15 players.

There is a reason "every team values size". I love JJB, but in the playoffs and some regular season games, he gets abused on defense. He's matured tremendously and has managed to help compensate, but when games are on the line, players like CP3 love to back down JJB and do whatever they want.

I still don't understand why we need to cut someone. Aren't we at 15 with Yogi. Signing him wouldn't impact that.

Hmmm, you're right -- somehow I missed that we cut Pierre Jackson.

Keep Deron on the bench and start Yogi until his mind opens to the idea of playing elsewhere...maybe where he can compete for a title if he has to come off the bench? Move him and Bogut.
