The NBA is a clown league... Thanks Obama.

It was always going to be Warriors/Cavs from pretty much the beginning of the season. Don't know why anyone was kidding themselves otherwise.

I don't think anyone expected any different, it just sucks that that's what the NBA is now -- a waste of fucking time.

Mavs should tank the next three years until James is semi-done and some of the big-four at the Warriors may moved somewhere else.
Makes no sense to fight for the playoffs....

It's the perfect time to rebuild though.

And I wouldn't trade a late first rounder for Smart in this draft let alone our pick. I still can't believe how or why people think he is going to be something. He's a rotational player and nothing more.

True... And hopefully the cap going up less than projected will make it hard for GSW and CLE to keep their superteams together.

I don't know. The real cap is $122 mill? GSW have KD (27), Klay (17), Draymond (16) and then Curry gets his big payday around 29 right? Puts them around 90 mill with their 4 main guys. Should be fairly easy to fill in around them with ring chasers.

LeBron has a $35m player option next summer that he's looking to increase, and the Cavs are already at $81m the season after for Love, Irving, Thompson, and JR Smith, who are all expiring... Lose a couple of those guys, and "ring chasers" might be chasing their tails with an aging LeBron (a la Kobe's Lakers).
The Warriors are in a different pickle altogether... If Durant opts out this summer, then they basically only have Klay and Green under contract... Re-signing Curry and KD to supermax deals will bump out Iggy and leave very little room to sign anyone else... And if they win a championship, a lot of these ring-chasers will cash-in on bigger deals once their desire for a championship is satiated. Sure, they can still sign guys like Matt Barnes, but the Shaun Livingstons of the league will be too rich for their blood.
Not saying CLE and GSW don't have options, but I'm positive that the cap increase coming in at $8m less than projected was a direct response to these superteams... This ain't the Lakers-Celtics days -- people have plenty of options other than the NBA to spend their time/money on... If the league lacks parity, then it lacks viewers (and viewership is down 6% from last season, so it's already becoming a problem...)

I could see Lebron still being himself for another 3 years. He's 32 now but he's been in amazing shape his entire career and he's not reliant on pure athleticism which deteriorates. A core of Steph+Klay+Green+KD is almost a given to reach the finals regardless of the rest of the roster. And they are young too. So yeah, for the next 3-5 years, the rest of the league might as well take a breather and work on player/coach development.
Where did you see something on viewership? I know my personal watching has declined significantly but it seems like the NBA hype train is still going strong. I guess I was wrong.

I'm pretty sure the Cavs don't need Lebron to beat Boston. Also who is this chick in the front row next to the Celtics bench? Everytime they pan the camera by her she has her face buried in her phone. Who invited that girl when they have those seats?

Game 2 of the ECF looks like a regular season matchup between the 1st seed and a lotto team -- the NBA is a garbage product right now.

Anybody denying this is...well, in denial. I felt this way last year's playoffs, but its been even worse than last year.

I refuse to even have this garbage on in the background while I do other things. I don't want to give the NBA the tv ratings. I'll stick to the hockey playoffs. At least those have been exciting.

@Rosenberg_Mike: The Celtics are the first team ever to tank AFTER winning the lottery.

Love it....i hope Silver is pissed.
Curry/Durant/Lebron re-signing this summer and you dont need to watch for the next three years. Over half of the league is going to tank. We should tank some more too

Lebron is not a free agent. He has player option in 18/19. Next year Cavs are:
LBJ, Love, Irving, Thompson, Smith, Shumpert, Frye, Jefferson. The year after, Frye is FA. So yeah, Cavs are set the next 2 years at least.
At least this off season, GSW will have a lot of spending to do. I don't see anyone leaving but there will be a little drama .... maybe. And then we get to wait for the Finals to come around again! Woot!

They woulda lost even with Kahwi. He would have made the series more tolerable and mayyybe bring it to 6, but no way they beat the Warriors.

Cap may shrink more than 8-10 million. Don't know why anyone would want to watch anything before the finals. Maybe the finals will have huge ratings but geez.

Isaiah Thomas now out for the rest of the playoffs with an aggravated hip.
Leonard likely out for game 4.
Least interesting ECF/WCF in modern history

Glad for DFW area kid Marcus Smart. I knew him when he was a kid in Lancaster, TX and coached his older brother Michael along with my son in AAU basketball.
Got to know his family fairly well before they moved to Flower Mound.
Tough is an understatement for how he plays.
- Huge game from him in win over Cavs
57% shooting with 27 points
7 of 10 on 3pt
5 rebounds
7 assists
2 steals and 1 block

82 Games + 3 rounds of playoffs seems like more of a slog than ever if there are only 7 games (at most) that offer any kind of drama...

Before you start laughing and click the back arrow, think about what it would take for SAS to trade Kawahi. LA is nowhere near a first option and at this point is barely even a second option. Parker has a ton of miles on his 35 year old body. Ginobili is more than likely going to retire this off season. Do you want a 41 year old being your 6th man off the bench? They have several younger players stepping up this year but realistically they don't have enough to compete against GSW for the next several years. Just look at the Vegas odds to verify that. Given all of that ...
What about a trade of Kawhi for the #1 pick Fultz? That gives Boston a much better chance to compete against CLE in the east and relieves them of the pressure to keep IT when they pretty much have to draft Fultz. SAS would honestly probably need more in return which means a three-way might be needed. I haven't really though about additional trade partners at this point.
