If The Mavs offering 18m and his agents says "yet to receive a serious offer"...you should just slap the agent

I never understood the max talk, and I didn't believe that the Mavs were prepared to match any crazy offer.

I don't know why they would even be offering that much at this point.

I still think it comes in around 17-18. Not sure about years. They are privy to medical info we are not. Anything below 15 would be "lowball". No way he turns down 4yr for 60m if its that or QO. Still think it'll be slightly higher per year.

This is working out quite well for the Mavs.... they'll get the player they want at a price they can live with.

Mike Fisher RT'd one of those after his "sources" said there would be multiple max offers for Noel prior to the free agency period.

We absolutely do.
What a hack. Parlaying his bullcrap and illusion of insider knowledge into a salary for himself, when he's less knowledgeable than half of the posters on D-M.com
P.S. - I hear we offered the Dust Chip, 10,000 Free Roddy t-shirts, and a lifetime premium membership to DB.com to Noel, which is why his agent is pissed.

How the hell can a guy with Noel's injury history pass on 10k Free Roddy B shirts??

We also included 200 Parsons jerseys. They were supposed to go as match worn jerseys to charity auctions But it never happened..

Changed the thread title for now, since its been forever since we traded for him... But I totally want to see a new thread whenever he re-signs so I can change the title back.

When I came into work today a fellow Mavericks fan yelled at me, and told me to tell Mark Cuban that he needs to quit being an idiot and just sign Nerlens Noel already. If we sign him to the qualifying offer for one year he's probably gone the next year. I agree with his thinking there. I hope Mark Cuban does something sooner rather than later because I am tired of sticking up for him. I love that we have a championship in the city of Dallas finally, but it's a shame that we only won 1 with Dirk Nowitzki. Had he not screwed things up multiple times he definitely would have won more. This is on Cuban, and he's lucky that Dirk likes him so much... even more than Championships it seems.

Outbidding yourself for no reason sure doesn't sound like the way to redeem yourself for past decisions. If other teams can't offer/won't offer Noel more than 16-17 a year, whose to say we didn't offer exactly that and NN's camp said that's not a serious offer because that's Mozgov money? If you are upset with decisions made after 2011 Idk how outbidding yourself into a bad contract makes up for it.

This is my thinking. Why would we offer Noel a ton of money when literally no other team made an offer to him. No reason to out bid yourself. His agent simply misread the market. That's on him.

Hold up there, Cochise.
While I am truly excited about the prospect of retaining Noel for several years, I do not want that to come at the expense of crippling our rebuild. Throwing a huge contract at Noel, when no one else is willing to do so, would be the wrong move here. His agent wants to wait, so we can wait. If he ends up signing the QO and then leaving, so be it. The last thing a rebuilding franchise can afford to do is be hamstrung by one player, especially one that has yet to prove himself worthy of a maximum contract.

Brooklyn traded for Crabbe, officially out of the market for Noel... Are there any teams left that can offer max at this point?

@IsaacHarrisNBA: Reminder, Phoenix can renounce rights to Alex Len & get close to 20 mill in space. They remain my dark horse Noel team

I could see Phoenix doing that... they might still see Len as a long-term fit, but they can renounce him, make Nerlens the offer, and if/when the Mavs match, they can use cap space to re-sign Len anyway.
And if I'm the Mavs, I still think we get a good deal if Nerlens ends up signing a deal w/PHX for 4yrs/$85M or thereabouts.

Why do that now though? Isn't that a move the Suns could have done a while ago?

I think the Suns have been waiting on opportunities to absorb salary with their cap space... the right kind of deal might allow them to keep Len as well, who I think they like but aren't chomping at the bit to give $15M/per to.

It shouldn't matter where Kyrie wants to go. Cleveland will trade him to the team who gives back the greatest haul. I'm not sure Kyrie will be the lead dog in Minn which is the reason he gave for wanting to leave.

The FA class Noel will be competing with for money next summer if he takes the QO instead of accepting what the Mavs have on the table:
And over half the league will be over the cap...

As some here have mentioned, fewer teams with cap space next summer. Obviously that can only help us, but the difference between RFA and UFA is enough to give me ulcers. I don't doubt that he may get a smaller contract next summer, but that still means he could leave.

Next year is a heck of a year to be under the cap.
Lots of talent out there and tons of bargains.
We'll have a few FAs of our own:
Curry
Yogi
Harris
Mejri
Maybe Dirk and Nerlens
Still, not a bad place to be in
