Yeah, the winning is making me ill. I can hardly watch anymore. The Mavs are going to screw up and end up drafting in the 9-12 range I'm afraid. :-( Buckle up. We're about to be locked in to at least another 3 years of less than mediocre if we don't get a top 4, maybe 5 pick. Yes, I'm in a bad mood, and I don't care if anybody disagrees with me. :-P

Maybe the Mavs organization is banking on winning the lottery?

We kinda already won the lottery with DSJ. 9th pick might have got the best player even tho I was unsure of it at the time.

To early to tell but Tatum is leading the league at 49% from 3 or something. Looks like a ten year vet. Also Donovan Mitchell is looking great and plays stellar defense. Right now DSJ might be 3rd. Lonzo Ball is around 43rd. Lonzo Ball blows.

Yeah a lot of us liked Mitchell if Knicks took DSJ. It appears early on that Mitchell has a chance to be the steal of the draft. Then again I still think DSJ will end up being the real steal it's just he's micromanaged in this offensive system that limits what he can do currently. He's a guy who is fantastic with the ball in his hands creating for himself or others and often he's on the floor with Yogi or JJ or Devin(or sadly a combination of 2 of them) who are "taking the pressure off him" as Rick has said. So maybe next year he will get the full reigns and we will get to see real breakout games. I honestly think if he wasn't sharing the load he'd be putting up 18-20ppg 5-6dimes 5-6rebs even if on bad perecentages with high turnovers, it's just what rookies go through adjusting. And we'd see the occasional explosion game. We haven't really seen the explosion game and I'm not sure we will with all these vet guards.

I think Rick is more concerned with the longterm goal of turning Dennis into an eventual All-Star/franchise player than letting him blow up his stats in a bid for RoTY... It sounds like the two of them watch a ton of tape together, so DSJ is still learning even when he's not on the floor -- vets like Barea and Devin are often good examples of the "right" way to do things.
Plus, there's always a possibility that some of our vets get shipped out before the trade deadline, so we still might get a chance to see the reins loosen a bit this season.

Smith still needs a lot of work in the playmaking department, but his shot has been much improved the last 5 games. Shooting 48.5% from the field and 35% from three.

In watching last nights game, DSJ had several shots that were blocked because he did his typical drive the basket with a hesitation move and then extend for a layup. Boston was obviously ready for this. I actually enjoyed seeing him get his shot blocked because I can already see that he will use that to adapt his game play. I've been extremely pleased with his BBIQ and enjoy just watching him making plays that both succeed and fail.

Tatum's now at 51.9% from 3. He's been consistent, poised, and the Celtics would not be winning as much without him. John Collins looks really good too. He's right up there.
As advertised, it's a great draft class. There's a whole list of promising players.

Hayward injury is almost a blessing in disguise really. Tatum is better than advertised. I thought he was easily most NBA ready of the top guys last year. Liked him way more than Josh Jackson. I think most here didn't want him because he compared similarly to Barnes(we all would have taken him if he fell but there was no chance he'd fall). His 3pt shot looks infinitely better than Barnes though. Celtics built their team the right way, unlike the direction the Mavs are going. They have loaded up on versatile wings to switch everything on defense. when Hayward is back next year they have Hayward, Brown, Tatum who can switch all day long on defense and can do a myriad of things on offense. And their big is a skilled passer who provides a little of everything. The Mavs have a litany of 6'1-6'3 guards and have maybe the worst wing depth in the NBA.

Not necessarily. The Celtics were able to get some really favorable returns from trades, for which the Mavs have no chance to match. Sure they could sell some of the vets off, but not for multiple first rounders that ended up being supreme picks (lol Nets). I'm not sure the Mavs can follow that blue print. I'm guessing it will take somewhere between the Celtics rebuild and the 76ers, except we can't afford to eff up the draft as much as the 76ers.
