Kevin Love is awesome. Get that money!
And to be clear, I've never bought the "empty stats" narrative with guys unless they were actively hurting their teams in pursuit of said stats (i.e. obvious inefficiency/chucking) -- and Kevin Love has never, at any point of his career, been that kind of player.

The contract is not great but I have to disagree with the Cavs being bad. Love was a monster in Minny...I remember him putting up 30/30 games like it was nothing and you can say what you want about the stats...thats not easy to do.
He can score and rebound which is HUGE these day and I expect him to have a nice bounce back season..especially in the East.
TT/ Nance Jr
Love/ Fry
Hood/ Korver
Clarkson/ Smith
Saxton/ Hill
Thats actually a pretty good team in the East and a versatile one.
I think Clarkson, Hood, and Hill are way better than what we saw last year and their struggles were largely do to LBJ and the way Cavs played. Again I expect that all Love and all 3 of those guys will a bounce back season.

Love put up monster stats and Minnesota was consistently at the bottom of the WC while never making the playoffs. The term "empty stats" may be up for debate but the fact is he never made any of his teams better while putting up gaudy numbers. I honestly don't know how he did it because I don't consider him a selfish player like Russ, but IMO he is definitely over-rated.
As for his contract, I applaud all the money that any of these players can get and never fault them for signing big money contracts. It's up to the owners and GMs to figure out who is worth the money that they offer.
Cleveland can be a horrible team and still will make the playoffs given the level of talent in the East. If Kawahi remains hurt or gets sent to the Lakers, is it possible for the Celtics starting 5 to be the starting EC All-Star team?

For me it's mud legs and injuries that have plagued his otherwise decent career. I might actually take today's Dirk in 40 yard dash against him. That's how slow Love is.
30 mil a year for a guy who is guaranteed to miss 20-25 games a season is a risk for sure.

Vince Carter sentenced to hard time in Atlanta...
@wojespn: Free agent Vince Carter has agreed to a one-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks, league source tells ESPN. Hawks want Carter around its young locker room.

Good signing for them
Solid wily forward with great personality and good smarts
That team has zero continuity and zero culture. Vince can't create it, but he can play gardener and water it.

Vince is a guy that could never be the superstar fans wanted him to be during his prime, but he has been the most incredible veteran ever since.

@IAmDPick: Celtics free agent guard Shane Larkin confirms to me that he is leaving the NBA to sign a $1.8M, one-year offer sheet with Anadolu Efes.

Capella 5/90
Morey wasn’t a dumbass and gave him a decent deal
Rockets 146 million for just Paul, Harden, Capela, Anderson, Gordon, and nene. Deep in the tax, didn’t add LeBron, but hey— they’ll finally beat the Warriors because of Melo

I'm a little surprised Capela took that deal tbh. Then again it's not like a ton of teams need a big and next off season DJ Cousins Capela some others and a few RFA's are all available. Maybe he decided the risk wasn't worth the reward to wait. The Anti Noel decision.

That deal is high enough that I think the Rockets match most offers and perhaps even the max.
I'm happy with Jordan.
And to think Nerlens turned down 500k less a year than that. LMAO!!!!

Jesus, that deal is even worse when you look into the details... Surely Capela could do better next summer?
@ShamsCharania: Sources: Clint Capela’s deal to return to the Rockets is five years, $80M guaranteed — with $10M in incentives.

Yeah bad Agent....Morey was in a corner after the Paul deal.
20 a year was the minimun...Paul gets twice than that.

Noel didn't accept out deal and made what was absolutely a STUPID decision that he will regret for the rest of this life.
Cappella took the deal and people are questions WHY?
Some people just can't make their minds up. We are talking about 80 MILLION guys. The real problem is when players get too selfish and don't appreciate their opportunity...and so he goes on to decline 70 million because he thinks he can do better...again 70 million.
This is my opinion but Mavs fans should know this from watching Dirk, foreign players tend to have a different mentality and while of course they fight for the money too, when a good deal comes by they are more likely to accept it then to risk something happening in hopes of a GREAT deal. Just a different mentality.

Morey was in the corner needing to sign him
But let’s not forget that the market for Capela dried up. It would be risky as hell to take QO so he wanted a deal this year. Suns and Mavs were the two biggest teams looking for centers and we got Jordan. Suns got Ayton. Once those teams aren’t looking, there really isn’t another team willing to spend big on a center

Nice article about how the value of rings is affected by the ring chasing generation.
Quote:
And when it comes to ring-chasing, NBA stars have started to run seriously afoul of Goodhart’s Law. They’ve made championships the target — and, in the process, have fundamentally changed the meaning of those championships for a player’s legacy.
|
Also some nice data included that put an end to the "there have been superteams in every era" argument. Might be the case, but the age of stars that switch for rings has decreased by a lot.

I think its because they don't worry as much about the "status" of the contract. If your piers are max players then you HAVE to be too or obviously you aren't as good as them

It's good to see near NBA level talent playing overseas. It should help to raise their level of play and bring in more quality players in the future.

Just a strange precedent that NBA teams-- the multi-million/billion-dollar organizations would hire a friend of a player to try to keep that player happy.

It's a player run league or haven't you heard?
Still, I wouldn't touch any guy that might have had a hand in the reason Kawhi went AWOL.

Manu retires.
I'm in no way, shape, or form excuse Kawhi and how he handled his situation, but you gotta wonder if the Spurs pressured him to play hurt knowing Paker might leave and Manu might retire. The fact that Aldrige wanted out last summer and Pop ready to retire soon at least adds nuance to this situation.

Can hardly believe the Suckets were able to offload Anderson's contract - owed over $40million over the next 2 years.

What doesn't that do for the Rockets cap wise? I think Knight could be a solid backup for when CP3 inevitably gets hurt this season.

Wow. So they actually found a sucker to take on that contract. And Suns sent back actual talent. Phoenix probably could’ve traded for a pick in the 40’s if they loved the guy that much. Proof that there are still GMs to be taking advantage of if you’re opportunistic. Ryan Anderson is less than worthless
