"Biggest, most badass statue ever!" promised to be placed outside the front of the arena. I loved Luka's reaction.

Dirk left Germany over 20 years ago and is now a Texan. This is his new home for his wife and his family. He is going nowhere. I love how he wrapped it up with those kind words.

Well done Mavs. A fitting tribute to the greatest Maverick ever. That was pretty special. It's still a bit surreal that an era is coming to an end. :-(

I am in tears. I am so happy for Dirk right now. What a wonderful person, and this was a classy move by the organization to make this happen for him. Now what's it going to be like when his number is retired? Can I handle watching that moment? Or seeing the statue for the first time? Or when the Mavericks win one and thank him for making it all possible? Yes, I expect Doncic and Porzingis to thank him when they do it. I'm counting on it.

and in every interview he told he will decide in the summer...wondering if that was a necessary lie to keep the attention down or if he got forced into retirements by all those goodbye celebrations

Man when I realized all his basketball childhood heroes were there the tears started to flow. I'm happy and sad at the same time...thanks for everything Dirk!

Been watching Dirk since I was 11. What a legend and such a great ceremony. Love the Ghost Face Killer forever.

Good job, Mark/Mavs, for the tribute to Dirk. Great job, Maverick fans, major props to the ones that went to the game and giving that man the send off he deserves. Just awesome.
Wow, I can’t believe it’s coming to an end. That dude brought so much basketball happiness to more than half of my life. So heart warming when he talked about Texas being his home. I look forward to hearing about what Dirk does going forward.

Yeah, that pushed it all over the top for me. Also they were mostly my basketball heroes growing up as well. Before the big German my favorite player was Charles Barkley. Also I had a great deal of respect for Larry Bird, Shawn Kemp, and of course Scotty Pippen. Even though Detlef started his career as a Maverick I didn't really watch him much, but I knew it was special for him to be there for the big German.
I really need to find a copy of this broadcast. I'd like to have it to watch forever.

yeah that last injury/surgery pretty much killed his career...the drop from last season was pretty harsh. Pretty sure he plays another year otherwise

Do you think that was Dirk's last game because of the back-to-back and his minutes played tonight?

I remember, when we watched the Championships together. I, all of a sudden, ran out of apple wine :-)
Too bad, so many of the old crew have left d-m.com

What an amazing sendoff for an amazing human being.
Looking forward to saying goodbye to him tomorrow in San Antonio.

I have another account in here, but I forget the login information. I've definitely been around since before the championship season, but probably didn't post much during the series since I was going to the home games and didn't miss much of the run in person.

That kind of ruins it for me a bit. I'm disappointed that it was even brought up tonight.

I can’t believe he actually retired now. I mean it’s not surprising at all, but it just feels like he’s been around forever and it would never end.
Tonight I flew over from Germany just to see him in his presumably last home game. It was a great night that’s for sure but right now I just feel sad. It’s an end of an era and I will never get to see my biggest sports idol again

Dirks post game talking about his pain through the season. Glad he went over that so fans can stop talking about the league pushing him out etc

I totally misread that. Nevermind then. Not ruined at all but actually a smart move by Dallas. I don't know what I was thinking.

I'm so happy for you though that you had the ability to fly to Dallas and watch Dirk in his final home game. This was definitely the best experience since the championship, which was unfortunately not won in Dallas. So really this may be the definitive Dirk experience in Dallas.
