Not sure there is a point anymore. Both of those teams made trades in order to keep those guys.

Making a rest-of-your-capsace offer to Oubre for Phoenix to match would be cataclysmic.
Listen, the good news is we are mostly in a two superstar league now depending how things work out in GS.
And backing out of that deplorable Miami trade was a step in the right direction of not letting teams think of you as a "dumping ground."
Curry/Boban is an F offseason so far with regards to adding to Luka and KP, but the Kawhi didn't join LA. That is big.

Yeah the only good news to this off season is this is the most parity we have seen in a long long time.
Edit- West is still ridiculously stacked compared to the East though.

I know this seems dismal but this FA year has been different from others. Yes we had 30mil to spend but so did several other teams including all 4 teams in the two biggest markets.
I'm disappointed in the outcome but I don't fully blame the FO for not signing quality starters.
If I'm not mistaken we have the most available cap space to make trades now.
Give it time people....our two young stars give us a huge window of opportunity.

Interesting, how many teams in the East are actually better than the current Mavs?

We definitely need some young guys to step up.
Broek should get an opportunity this year if we don't make any other major moves.

You still have to use your capspace so that means everyone on the roster gets bigger deals

After Bucks and Sixers I can't say any of the others are flagrantly better than us next year.

Unless we keep the TPE as the cap space instead.

Not the news I expected to see after waking up lol, but I'm OK I think with missing out on Danny Green.
Hope we are looking at trades and RFAs. I think OKC might be thinking of of blowing the team up now, but not sure who we could get and how much would it cost. Adams perhaps?. Would be expensive but he could be a good fit.

I disagree, I’m super pissed of because the free agents I was hoping for all went to secondary markets with limited cap space. In the end we got beaten by Orlando (Vucevic, Ross, Aminu), Indiana (Brogdon, Warren), Utah (Bogdanovic, Ed davis), Sacramento (Dedmon). I’m still shocked honestly I hope some people get fired.

Exactly how I felt the whole time. Of course I saw the benefits with the player too that others didn’t agree with, but it’s whatever at this point. This team WITH Vuc would have it’s hands very full. Of course at least it would’ve been another very good asset that was an All-Star. I don’t care what anyone says (and some will most definitely chime in), but anyone who doesn’t acknowledge that getting Vuc in FA would’ve been LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than the mess we’re in today is straight crazy. Just crazy. Even if you think the fit is horrible. I strongly feel that with KP/Luka/Cuban flying in first thing when FA starts with an offer around what Orlando offered him (or slightly more), and he absolutely heads this way. Again, no need to keep hitting that dead horse though...

If Kawhi wins a title it with LA, he will have to jump up right next to Jordan IMO
He has done it at every stop and in every situation before teaming up with PG in LA...and what a team that should be.

The Warren thing was CRAZY! Clearly that would’ve been great for that straight heist... That said, we weren’t beating Indiana’s trade offer to Milwaukee so the only way would’ve been to max him and have him choose us over Indiana, and he may still have chose them due to them having a much better team. I’m well documented on Vucevic... Utah is a great team and would you have wanted to offer the much higher amount it would’ve taken to get Bogdanovic to choose a 33 win team over Utah? Dedmon hurts if not targeting Vuc.
Point is, most of these guys either got (or would’ve been if we money whipped them) overpaid or chose established teams with winning records. The ones we SHOULD’VE targeted that we could’ve pulled we didn’t. Not sure how someone could give anything other than a failing grade to the Mavs for this FA period in my opinion (without considering KP). To this point of course - maybe a trade is coming...

Any interest in absorbing one year of Roberson at $10 million for a 2nd round pick?

I like that there aren’t any monster teams
Porzingis and Doncic
Lillard and McCollum
Lebron and AD
Curry and Thompson
Kyrie and KD

Sure, why not. And give Bradley a peanut deal, see if he takes it.
Bradley-Luka-Roberson-KP-Powell
is a solid lineup, with a good combination of offense and defense. Spacing wouldn't be horrible either.

I have been watching basketball for a long time and players have come and gone, LeBron being the closest in that conversation. The way Kawhi plays and what he has been able to do on both ends with different teams against great and very good teams has been amazing. If he wins it again, especially next year, who can we say has done what he has done ? IMO with another title he jumps LeBron or at worst ties him for a seat next to MJ.

This is the only good thing about our current state. If everyone remains healthy, I believe Luka is so good that he and KP challenge these other duos. Maybe not next year but in a few years for sure.

Front office are the only ones to blame. They sat back and tried to let free agency come to them.

All of these pairs are 30 year old or older. The Dallas pair, when you add their ages together is just what, 45? It is very rare and very hard for teams this young to win it all. Not even OKC, with Westbrook, KD and Harden could win a championship. They had plenty of talent...way more than the 2011 Mavs. But Dirk, Jet and Kidd had a level of maturity that overcame the raw talent.
Right now, the Mavs talent is very raw. It takes some patience. Apparently the MBT decided it did not want to spend its cash and load up on the wrong players. I see the benefit in letting KP and Luka meld into a solid pair before introducing more strong personalities. Either way, its a gamble. Cuban has rolled his dice...we'll soon see how they turn up.

And that’s where we really failed this summer. We should have gone after some of the gettable players early in to complement Luka and KP and we didn’t do it early enough.
And actually I would say Brunson.

This.
Mavs were never players for the max-worthy guys: Kemba, Kyrie, Kawhi, KD, DLo, etc. I can forgive not throwing out crazy contracts. I have a harder time forgiving not using the cap space to stock up on assets when that was an option.
We should have been party to the three team deal that netted the Clippers the Heat pick but instead we were keeping our powder dry for Danny Green

You cannot ignore body of work. Maybe for peak play Kawhi would be top 10, say, based on his three best playoff runs, but he just doesn't have the volume yet as an elite player. He needs to win at least two more as he men, win an MVP or two, and just play 70-game regular seasons. He needs to put in the work like every other all time great. Let's talk after next season again.

This free agency showed again that it became a total buddy league since the Heatles in 2010. Players taking the easy road and often it not even matters anymore if the new team has cap space (Heat - Butler) or if the player is under contract (AD, George etc).
We saw it with Dirk, who were respected, but didnt wasnt a "buddy" enough to get a tier 1 free agent to sign here. I really hope Luka and KP realized it allready. If they want to add a third big name in 2021, THEY have to do the work. Donnie will do his job and keep the max cap flexibility, but its up to Luka and KP to deliver a big name. Or be satisfied with role player.
The FO trashing is also overreacting pure. With 75% of the big names we not even had a shot. I also dont think Vuc is signing here with the 100m offer from Orlando, a place where he lis living since almost 10 years. Kemba was 50:50, cant blame the FO. Brogdon or Bogdan? Who knows if they prefered us over the Jazz/Pacers? Beverley? He got solid money with his old team....again, who knows if we had a shot at all.
So...hand out solid roleplayer contracts, best case just until 2021 guaranteed, sign Kostas until 2021 (totally worth the 15th spot just for tampering) and tell Luka and KP that the franchise needs them to recruit...
Free agency in the past years: Your players doing recruiting is more important than anything your FO is doing...

I don’t disagree and that why I said IF he wins one in LA, especially next year. And she’s probably still got 3-5 year to add to his body of work which already looks like some of the best work we have seen.
