GDT: Round 1, Game 2 - Mavs (0-1) at Clippers (1-0) 8:00pm TNT
Mavs try to get into the win column, after leading for some of the previous game, but being unable to finish it off after KP was ejected.
Injury report
Burke - sprained left ankle - probable
KP - heel soreness - questionable
Curry - fragile/leg - out
Lee - leg - out
Powell - Achilles - out
Brunson - shoulder - out
WCS - family - out
Clippers have no injuries listed. None. At all.

My previous perdition was ruined by KP's ejection, so I will try again.
Mavs win.
Mavs 126
Clipps 118
Luka triple double.
KP 40 points.

KP is questionable with knee soreness, not heel, just for the record

I was just going off the interview from Rick saying his heel was sore at practice yesterday. ESPN has him as questionable without cause.
Curry too, but that's apparently the same leg pain.
Burke looks like he will play

I have a virtual seat to tonight's game, but I heard it's kinda messy as they shuffle people in and out. We'll see...

Court side tickets were hard to come by. And I don't know how well it even works. My brother was supposedly there last game, but it kept messing up.
Great idea though for the future. I think even once we get back to going to games they should have that as well for people that can't attend live.

Luka has got to clear this up....
I noticed this a lot if he don't get a foul call he gives up on defense the next possession
Espn
It's easy for Carlisle to publicly back Doncic, especially when the historically dominant 21-year-old accepts accountability for the one big blemish on an otherwise sensational box-score line. But Doncic was caught slipping as Marcus Morris Sr. hit a clutch 3. Doncic, who didn't touch the ball on the Mavs' previous two fruitless possessions, lollygagged back on defense with his palms in the air, muttering to himself in frustration. He glanced at the Dallas bench as the ball crossed half court, as Kawhi Leonard fired a crisp pass to the man Doncic was supposed to be defending on the wing. Morris swished the 3, pushing the Clippers' lead to seven with a little less than two minutes remaining.

I agree that he’s got do better in these situations and stay with his man. BUT he was upset with Curry and THJ who each made stupid decisions in a close game and never got the ball to Luka. Curry, THJ and Wright should NEVER dribble the ball up when Luka is in the floor. Nothing good ever happens with that. Luka wanted the ball m, he should have had the ball and he was letting them know. He should have stayed with Morris while sound so.

Curry shot 50% from three for the game. THJ is a better three point shooter than Luka. Luka shot 33% from three. He should've been mad at himself for 11 TOs.

I think they said that was almost a record for turnovers
But yeah luka has to protect the ball better and show more maturity and effort defensively even if things aren't going his way.
One thing about Dirk he would always keep battling and playing through difficult situations.
It'll take him some time but those little things like hustling back on defense is mostly just effort not experience issues

From the Athletic
The Clippers were actually a bottom-10, pick-and-roll defense across multiple categories (points, points per possession, aFG%, %Score) this season, according to Synergy Sports. That’s surprising given their personnel, especially defending ballhandlers, but the Clippers have struggled to contain dribble penetration at the point of attack this season.
Their base principle in defending pick-and-rolls is that they will switch one through four — allowing Leonard, George, Beverley, Morris, JaMychal Green, Landry Shamet, Reggie Jackson or Lou Williams to rotate defensively — to prevent the ballhandler from creating an advantage.

Bobby Karalla
@bobbykaralla
Doncic drove the lane 37 times in Game 1. That's a lot. A loooot. Westbrook led the league this season with 20.8 per game. He was able to break his guys down. In this game do the Clippers send more pressure at him, or do they let him get his while trying to limit everyone else?

From what PGeorge said about Lukas game, "we'll see how he does over 5-7 games, it's a battle of attrition... etc". I think they save double teaming him for late in the game, if it's close. They probably keep pressuring Luka and anyone else handling the ball to make initiating the offense as difficult as possible.

Oh yeah. I’m sure they’ll adjust, but at least Luka seems to understand what he needs to do. There was also this:
Doncic scored 1.667 PPP in 13 isos in Game 1, which is otherworldly. That's a lot of isolations for him though, but circumstances kind of dictated that. The Clippers will continue to play him physical, but he's got to continue taking advantage of 1-on-1s and get into the lane.
