Luka back in early. 9.36 in the 4th. Kidd knows we are cooked without him. Still need another “star”

Yeah but he has to mirror the minutes that Giannis plays
That's the one thing that drove me crazy under RC he would be stubborn and stick to the same exact rotations no matter what

Kidd is using Bullock and DFS very similar to the roles of Marion and D.Stevenson

Excellent help defense and rotations after that 1st qtr

Crazy how Jekyll and Hyde this team can be with losing to trash teams like Washington and then turning right around beating Milwaukee in Milwaukee.

I mean was Carlisle holding Powell and DFS back? Always liked Powell as a person but he’s absolutely killed it this year

Defensively he’s been more effective. Offense seems more consistent but that could be recency bias

This was by far the best rebounding display I've seen from Powell.
that was more impressive IMO because most of his shots are a benefit of Luka just drawing the defense over and it just comes down to Powell catching and finishing under the rim
A prime example was DFS getting to the rim and Powell's man Lopez had to react to DFS who then made a sweet pass to Powell for the easy bucket.

I think Powell really loves playing against the stretch centers like Lopez. He gets bullied bad by the old school centers and even the bruiser PFs

I feel like Powell plays better when Maxi doesn't suit up. Maybe that's just me though.

Yeah Lopez didn't really play inside much at all. Plus he's slow on the rotations defensively.
But having said that Luka was dropping them dimes to Powell all game and Milwaukee never could adjust

Still going to need Maxi if they play Jokic, Ayton or Gobert. Those are the guys who Powell has struggled with defensively in recent years.
We got to have both bigs rebounding and using up those 12 fouls

Luka
32 points / 15 assists / 8 rebounds and dominating against the best NBA defender and the current MVP.
A great win for the Mavericks.
DwightPowell | 22 PTS | 13 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL
Kendrick Perkins
Luka really be praying for times like this!!! It’s not one single Superstar that he hasn’t put over his lap and gave a spanking to this season. Don’t @ me tho and Carry on…
Luka is now 8-2 against MVP candidates (best record amongst candidates)
Averaging 28/9/9
Averaging 31 9 and 9 in his last 30 games
No all star teammate yet 4th in the west
Would have joint 3rd best winning% in the east with Boston, 0.3% behind the bucks
Luka last 5 games:
32 PTS | 10 REB | 5 AST | 4 3PT
34 PTS | 12 REB | 12 AST | 4 3PT
35 PTS | 9 REB | 13 AST | 3 3PT
36 PTS | 7 REB | 6 AST | 4 3PT
32 PTS | 8 REB | 15 AST | 3 3PT
Shooting 50/42/84%.
Per NBA Courtside: Luka Doncic accounts for 81.3% of the team's points in the 4th quarter
Mavericks improved to:
» 36-0 when Mavs FG% > Opp. FG%
» 21-0 when shooting 50% or better
» 11-2 when all 5 starters score 10+
» 45-8 with a 10-point lead
» 33-8 with a halftime lead
» 24-5 with 25+ assists
» 10-3 on Sunday’s

post game comments/quotes from Bucks SB Nation site
Interesting to read through perspectives from other team's fans...
I guess they also feel that Giannis doesn't get enough calls
Love to hear anyone trashing G Allen - he's a a low class jerk tryna get people hurt with cheap play.
https://www.brewhoop.com/2022/4/3/23...e-april-3-2022
----------------------------------
- "Doncic was outstanding... his court awareness on offense is something to behold."
- "give credit where credit is due. Kidd and the Mavs planned and executed a good defensive game plan vs. Giannis."
- "what they did this game wasn't really great defense.
They literally walled Gianni and gave open shot to anyone. Jrue had 4-5 makes at some point and he was left all alone, non stop. I guess it works, limit Giannis drives and FTs, fouls, etc.
It really helps when you are rewarded for that physicality too."
- "Giannis turned in to a clear foul on the very first possession, the defender caught him with both a bump and his arms as he went to pivot and rise and it went uncalled. So the MVP gets no benefit of the whistle while Dwight f'ing Powell gets a phantom call underneath. As you said: they're doing this to us AT HOME. It is crazy to me that we're back to the Shaq era, where a defender can do whatever the hell they want to Giannis, and he's never going to get a fair game. It is sad."
"- The Dallas attacked Allen every time on every play he was on the floor. Every f**ing time. You can say he played well, but was still played off the floor. I wasn't very confident on him regarding playability in the playoffs and I pray to be wrong. We pay him $10 mil next season."
"Dallas, even though Doncic has the ball in his hands a lot, plays great as a TEAM. Those are guys who are overlooked, have a lot of length, and don’t give a damn. I think many people overlook how tough of a matchup they can be in the West."
"They couldn't find an answer to the Mavericks defense. It felt like last year's playoffs, where almost every game against a defensively competent team was a struggle. 4rth quarter was an abomination. No movement, not many passes, give the ball to Middleton to do some heroics, many turnovers. Giannis was invisible, he couldn't even rebound."
From SB nation writers - bonus bucks bits - https://www.brewhoop.com/2022/4/3/23...w-april-3-2022
-Bud started with Wes Matthews on the primary assignment against Luka Doncic.
- The Bucks started in drop coverage on Doncic, he got downhill for an and-one. The immediate next possession Brook Lopez came much higher up on the floor to meet him near the arc. It resulted in lots and lots of Dwight Powell dump-off finishes.
- Anytime Dallas threw Davis Bertans on the floor, the Bucks seemed to have a mandate from Coach Bud to attack him with any and all of their offensive actions.
- The Mavericks got back to the point that Milwaukee couldn’t muster a single fast break point.

Powell gets it all from hustle too. He just isn't a very talent player and never will be. You can only make up for those deficits so much. And let's be honest, he wouldn't be this player without Luka.
Again though, these B squad guys are all great if we had 2-3 superstars. Without those, these guys are still being asked to do too much. It will rear its ugly head at some point, but it's groovy right now.

I agree. I said this during the game thread. Still need that second star. Don’t know who it is but we should save our 1st round picks for that guy when he comes available. Someone better than an Aaron Gordon or Jerami Grant type. Gets to the line and gets calls when the offense bogs down or Luka is sitting. Paul George would perfect. Would anyone here roll the dice on Jimmy Butler?

What I also don't get is why more bigs aren't begging to play with Luka. If Luka can get Powell 5 20-pt games then I wonder what he could do with someone like Gobert or Capela.

Maybe this is the offseason we start to see the gravity of Luka especially, but also Kidd and Nico? Obviously whether or not Jokic sign the supermax extension will determine our next move.

George is sort of injury prone now days.
Butler isn't a star IMO he can easily be taking out of a playoff series.
I will continue to believe that a big similar to Turner who can do a little bit of everything (rim roll/Shoot 3's/rebound and Bloc shots) would be perfect.
I think he would be cheaper to acquire than a wing player.
But if they could get another wing I'd prefer Lavine over both George and Butler at this stage of their career's.
