5 minutes into the game and here comes Powell
There's literally no reason why Holmes needed a break that early

This is exactly why I wish some team would trade for him.
That's the only way you can stop him from getting rotation minutes here.
I said it before Powell should be treated like haslem was treated in Miami but that doesn't mean you have to play him.

20 points in the paint
Powell is going to finish the 1st qtr out playing Holmes 8 minutes to 4
The most frustrating thing about watching this team is the same damn usual players who have been here for years still getting key minutes

Look at how Holmes contest shots at the rim
If nothing else make it tough on them to score layups
Powell doesn't even contest shit

Yeah this game reeks and when you throw out defensive lineups of Powell, THJ, Luka and Kyrie then you know kidd has thrown in the towel trying to play defense.
He's just going to sed if they can outshoot the Clippers now

Mavs are now 2-5 and up to the same crap that should have gotten Kidd fired
Cuban should not be happy paying 164mill for a team that is .285 over the last 7 games

Saw a clip on reddit of Westbrook attacking Luka 4 straight possessions. Game seemed over at that point but good thing we have Kidd to keep them in til the last fight.
Kidd sucks. The defense sucks. I refuse to believe they are this bad with this roster defensively. Guys look like they?ve never played together based on the first half I watched.
In b4 someone says it?s an 82 game season bad nights happen. (They said this not even two weeks ago re pelicans)
Clippers we?re on a b2b 4 games in 6 nights and Mavs have played like twice in a week

Minus 20 on boards and layup drills are what you get when you don't take the backup center position seriously....especially with a 19 yo. rookie starter.

It's a combination of the talent drop off after Luka/Kyrie and terrible coaching.
Mavs have made a lot of dumb moves in the past 5 or so years, but the worst is not picking Mosley when he was on your goddamn staff.

WARNING: TOXIC POSITIVITY
At the current rate, we are on pace since mid-November to end the season 29-53. Some small good news:
1) If we don't do anything and the trend of the past two weeks holds, we have good odds to get a top-10 pick and thus keep the pick (29-52 would be good for fourth worst record). Assuming Kyrie/Luka don't demand a trade, we'd have everyone under contract from this year other than DJJ and Morris AND a lottery pick (maybe even top four). If we end up 11-30, though, we have no FRPs or SRPs and are stuck with this year's roster.
2) Maybe Cuban sees that Kidd won't get it done and gets us a real coach?
3) It may make Cuban/Nico make a roster move.
*3a) I think we have the assets for one upward move and I personally think we're more than one move from competing, but we can pull a Clippers and mortgage the rest of the 2020s to get one more piece OR
*3b) We blow it up completely. Go young and build around Green/Lively/OMax. Maybe keep the 2023 FRP to add another player around Lively. Getting some picks for Luka, keeping our 2023 lottery pick, and building around a young core could be really solid.

WARNING: TOXIC NEGATIVITY
At the current rate, we are on pace since mid-November to end the season 29-53. Some bad news:
1) Luka isn't a leader. He can't play defense (exhibit A was Westbrook trashing him on four straight). When he faces hardship he feigns an injury. Teams can't win with headcases like that.
2) Kyrie is paid like a HoFer, but small, one-way guys aren't that valued anymore (just see Hield getting zero offers). He's heading toward being over-the-hill and clogs up our cap space.
3) Lively is good, but a few years out. Without him, we can't defend ANYONE.
4) The rest of the squad is small and short when the league has shifted to length and athleticism.
5) This team won't be elite without a complete roster rebuild-- from GWill all the way down.

Its interesting to see how his career is playing out. It doesnt seem like hes matured at all in 6 years. Kyrie plays and talks and uplifts his teammates as a leader does. Luka just doesnt seem to have that in him at all.
And ive never seen a star of his caliber self sabotage himself so often. Its very easy for defenses to get him pissed off at everything, if a shot doesnt fall, if he doesnt get the foul...just hangs his head and trod slowly back on defense. Not a leader. Hes great as is already, but he could be more.

Ill add to the toxicity.
Negative:
Cuban just will not fire Jidd. He will have to miss the playoffs this year and maybe have a poor start to next year, BEST case scenario. So go ahead and get that as far out of your mind as Luka ever playing good defense.
Luka and Kyrie on the same team won't work because defensively its a nightmare. Luka is slow as fuck and Kyrie is small. Even with the best defensive coach that ever walked the planet, this team wouldnt break the top half in defense.
Luka has unparalleled ability to anticipate and think ahead of defenses and it puzzles me that he can't use that as a tool on the other end of the court to even resemble a decent defender.
Cuban is a huge problem, Kidd is his problem and no one will speak with their dollars. People still go to the games, people still buy gear etc.
Positive:
Lively is the only guy with promise. We know what every single other player has and where their ceiling is...even Luka. I wouldnt have dare asked for more than what Lively has been able to do thus far.
We have some pieces we could move around but they're all guys that either the FO loves or they're Kidd crutches.
Overall :
Id like to see Luka get a ring in Dallas and be another Dirk, but 1 wasnt enough for a guy at that level. It was sad that he only got 1. I dont think Luka sticks around while the FO fumbles around with the roster, getting lapped while we try to shift and upgrade to roster building trends around the league. Dirk somehow did stick it out, through thick and thin. Luka has passion ,but hes not proven to be built like Dirk.
I actually like Kyrie, but we need too many pieces added if we want to win with Luka and Kyrie. If I had to choose between those 2, it would obviously be Luka. I think we do have to move one of them because neither play defense well enough to cover the other. Oddly enough id be fine with trading Kyrie and I would be ok with trading Luka as well if we got a killer package. I never thought id say that with any conviction but... im tired Boss! We are chocolate fucked if we dont make a good move or 2 at TDL. Mark it down.
The realistic and likely path, will be to add a cpl random guys mid season and just watch the outdated roster build flounder to an early exit if we even get in the POs.
The hard thing to do is trade either Kyrie in a package, or blow it up and trade Luka in a massive package and go full on OKC with this POS.
