Would you take on Damon's contract if you could get Randolph?
I saw this on the LMFF:
Quote:
Portland is so in trouble and the Stoudamire issue is going to kill them.
So would you help them out and send them Nick for Damon and Randolph.
We give up the better player but I love Randolph I think Randolph is going to be a stud in this league and had hoped we would have somehow got him 2 years ago.
We get a backup PG who has his problems but is still a good PG. The prize is Randolph I would love to see him in a Mavs uni.

What do you think? Would you risk it?

From a pure basketball standpoint, you would have to do that deal IMO. Randolph brings a lot of what the Mavs need to the table. When does Damon's contract expire?

Whooohhh. This is one of those deals you might not be able to pass up. Isn't Randolph a power foward? Once again another player who plays Dirk's position. I don't think I can pass them up but i'm not sure who is going to step us for us in the playoffs when Dirk or Fin isn't on. Hopefully Nash will pick some of the slack up.

According to hoopshype.com, '04-'05 for 15.75. If we were to take on that contract, I'd want to send TAW at 6 mil, and have Por take back a bit more salary, while still both teams being within 15% on salaries.

I'd do this deal as quick as Stoudamire getting busted on the plane heading to Dallas.
Randolph is a young Bull underneathe basket. You don't find too many of those type of players.

Yeah, but he's played some C, and he is built for playing C. That's where I'd stick him. Perhaps Zach would too, just like he did against us.

Randolf is another question mark. He had some great games against us in the playoffs, but he also kindov disappeared when things weren't going thier way, just like Rasheed.
He may respond better on a better team, but players with egos larger than skills tend to get discouraged when things arent going thier way.
We also add Damon to our roster as a backup to Nash. I don't think he has the heart to make a difference on this team. Nick does.
Combine all this with Randolf not being a center or small forward, it conflicts the big forward spot.

Well playing center against us isn't to difficult.

But I think he is capable of playing the 5. He has a big body and he is built like a center. I love Nick but I think for all of those Nick haters that want Nick out of here this is the trade you guys have been waiting for. You not only get a backup pg but you get a young big man. Not a Ward and KT or a Grant and Best type deal.

randolph is only 6'9". that's really undersized for a center. he's a good player, but i just don't know where we would play him.

RE: Would you take on Damon's contract if you could get Randolph?
Well now I will get into this thread now that its rolling.
I would do this trade, for and only for Randolph. He turns 22 in 10 days. Can you imagine having Howard, Randolph and Dirk on this team for 10-15 years together? WOW!!!
Besides everyone knows that Finley is starting to get old and his trade value is decreasing, so what happens to a irratic shooting PG when he starts to get old like NVE?
Thats right, you trade his ass when his trade value is high and offload him onto somebody else.

Stock isn't doing so bad for being 42 years old. Still a top 10 pg in this league.

Ummmmm Ok, please don't get so caught up in the Nelson/Cuban hype machine that you start considering Josh Howard part of the core of this team before he's played a game.

6'9 isn't too small to play center in the NBA right now..
there's exactly one dominating center, and the shorter/thicker guys are the only players that give him trouble.

Yea that kind of through me off lol. At first I assumed it was sarcasm when he posted the WOW! after it but even though i'm in favor of Josh to succeed with us that is a huge assumption when putting Josh Howard and Dirk in the same sentence stating the future.

Great point. Elton Brand and Brian Grant seem to give him some problems. Those are just 2 I have at the top of my head.

Why I got caught up in the hype that Mladen and Oggy are going to be allstars in 2-3 years, why can't I go with the hype on Howard?

The difference is......Stockton will go down as one of the top (3) to ever play the game from the PG position and NICK will be lucky to get in the top 20.

RE: Would you take on Damon's contract if you could get Randolph?
You guys must be kidding, no you don't do this trade. I like Damon, but we don't need that drama on our team. That would mean that Nash will probably have to play more minutes b/c damon is not that good of a scorer or passer. Randolph can only put up huge numbers against teams like Dallas, Sacramento, or any other high scoring team b/c they don't have good interior defense.

Randolph is a STUD and I wouldn't think twice about that trade, even if we have to take on a pot head to do it.

RE: Would you take on Damon's contract if you could get Randolph?
Randolph may be listed as being 6-9, but he is actually just about a hair short of 6-8 (I know, I have actually met the guy a couple of times)...
That said, he is a dominator on the block. He was a bull during his one year at Michigan State, and he really showed his strength at the end of this season and against us in the playoffs...
I don't know how well Randolph would play in a Nelson style offense, but I might actually be inclined to pull the trigger on any equitable deal featuring Zach... However, I think Randolph is just about the only player that the Blazers wouldn't be inclined to trade right now...

We all know that POR wants to get rid of Damon - if they are willing to package him with Randolf I take on that baggage. Of course, Damon is the most overrated player in the history of the NBA, so he'd have to sit on the bench the entire game...
