Should the system fit the players, or the players fit the system?

If the players must fit the system, then you need to blame the GM when players don't perform as expected. If that GM also happens to be the coach, as I think was the case prior to this off-season, then you have to blame Nellie when the players don't work within his system.

Nellie is a master at calling Xs and Os during the game, and exploiting match ups. However, how much of that would be necessary if the rotation and the system fit each other?

I think the players we have suits the Nellie system perfectly. I just don't think the Nellie system can consistently win in the playoffs.

We have the wrong system

Default RE: Should the system fit the players?

The problem with the system of Nellie is that it is made trying to fit the wrong players to the system AND to modify the sytem to fit the available players.

Back on the question, "Should the system fit the players? Without context, the answer is obvious.

I think its too late now in questioning Nellie's system. Kings almost have a same system and were favourites to win it all last year.

Both Kings and mavs do not have the best inside presence and thus we have to find other ways to win.

Kings don't really have "almost the same system". The Kings offense is the motion offense, based on passing out of the post by Vlade and Webber, and devestating shooters like Peja. They run the fast break, but are not a "helter skelter" team by any means. Kings also have a defensive stopper at SF that fits into their offensive scheme perfectly. The Kings post up on most half court sets, while we run one-on-one plays for our typical half court set.

Don't you think posting up is one on one play also. Since our strength is in the backcourt we use one on one play in the back court.

Posting up isn't one on one, it takes 2 players atleast to do it.

The Kings and the Mavs have alot different of a system, because they have different players. They have great passing big man(Vlade, Webber), the Mavs don't. They have good defenders out on the perimeter(Christie, both Jacksons) the Mavs don't.

The players create the style, but it is the GM who chooses which players to make the style.
