Teixeira trade?
I just heard a teaser on the Ticket that there might be an opportunity to trade Teixeira for a really good pitcher, but I missed it. Did anybody hear what player they where talking about?
I don't trade Mark unless we get a legitamate #1 starter back..

Teixeira trade?
ohh, I didn't miss it after all...
the published report from Toronto has...
Mark Teixera and Benoit
for
Vernon Wells
would you do it?
as of right now...I wouldn't touch this trade. I want to see how Nivar pans out in center.

RE: Teixeira trade?
absolutely not. I would do that PERHAPS if we had a chance to make the playoffs. But if your goal is now to make .500, that is not enough of a reason to get rid of a great prospect, IMO.

Yes I'd do it.
The Ballpark requires a good center fielder. Plus a good center fielder can make your pitchers look a LOT better. And Wells is a lot more than a good center fielder.

I'm not ready to put into place guys who won't be here in 3 years. Wells contract expires soon I think. We need to develop the young guys and see what we have.

The Rangers already know who their center fielder will be next year, and for the next 15 years. His name is Ramon Nivar. He is the truth.

If Nivar develops to his full potential, he >might< be as good as Wells.
Besides, don't we have like 3 more GOOD 1st baggers in the system? Sign Raffy to a one year deal while we wait.
Interior players in baseball are as hard to get as tall players in basketball. I'm sure that everyone has heard the old adage "you don't trade big for small". A similar adage exists for baseball "you don't trade middle fielders for corner players".
The only reason we get a chance at someone as good as Wells is that Toronto is worried about going through arbitration with him.

RE: Teixeira trade?
I went to highschool with Vernon Wells, he's a great guy, grew up in this area and still lives in this area (Arlington) Considering how great he has taken off this season I think it would be a great deal for the Rangers.
Wells > Nivar

what about seding them Nivar, Teixeira, and Benoit
for Halliday and Wells....NOW, I would piss my pants if we could do that deal. I would be willing to part with another top prospect for them two.

Any trade that could even remotely lead to this should be immediately dismissed and whoever came up with the idea should be fired.

Why not? So what if Raffy isn't a competitive guy? We're not exactly a competitive team either. And there is ZERO complaints about Raffy in the clubhouse.

Use his spot to develop younger players. Even if it hurts. There is no spot on this team for a selfish player who only cares about his own numbers. Raffy would take up valuable at bats for another player. There are other leaders on this ball club for the clubhouse.

Obviously you only sign Raffy if you have a young guy who >might< not quite be ready but you want him to get seasoning.
And I haven't seen anything selfish about Raffy. The fact that he's not interested in moving to a competitive environment to play ball doesn't mean he's selfish. I think he just wants to cruise a couple of more years in a place he enjoys. Why not let him if we are waiting for another prospect to get ready?

Why should the Rangers let Raffy play here if he isn't interested in a "competitive environment to play ball" as you eloquently stated? Let's get someone in that spot who will play balls out....even if he takes some time to get into the groove.

Baseball is a marathon not a sprint. Those gung ho types burn out fast. Besides you know that rushing a prospect has the potential to RUIN him.
What I meant about competitive environment was that Raffy wasn't willing to MOVE to one.

Teixeira trade?
Didn't mean to misinterpret that. Thanks for the clarification. I will never be able to get past his refusal to go to a championship caliber team, helping the team he claims to lvoe in the process, and which could have almost guaranteed his return to Texas. Instead, he chose selfishly to stay here and wallow in mediocrity. That isn't the kind of guy I want on my team. I don't think Showalter appreciated it much either. I'll be sick to my stomach if we waste another dollar on that guy next year.
One thing is for sure. He will NOT get a NTC if he comes back. Actually, I hope the Rangers sign him and then trade him to Detroit before the season starts.
