v.
I was wondering whether any of you guys were going to check this out. It should be a great game.
I think Brisbane might be a bit too strong for Collingwood.

that i didn't see what i thought I saw
I don't even have an opinion on it, so i doubt anyone else is going to.
I have no idea who either of those teams are *hehe*

I used to watch quite a bit of it actually. Those little guys in the white suits with the flags used to make me laugh when tehy did the score thingy. Great stuff. And I enjoyed the tough guy stuff. Those guys knock the begezus out of each other. Great sport.

Come on Veruca, you're supposed to be on my side. Here I am trying to drum up some support for the local game, while you're shooting me in the foot!

Oz, its only local to you.
I live about 12 hours away, where no one
could careless about it? Remember.
Which brings up an interesting question, do you have different sports which
are popular in different areas in the US?
Here it's totally split into states, Victoria it's all Aussie Rules Football.
In New South Wales it's all Rugby League & in Queensland its Rugby Union.
(the other states? well i don't think anyone knows, or cares).
I probably won't get an answer, as I doubt anyone will be looking at this
thread much

Sports in the US are so intergrated into society these days. The north favors hockey, but other than that the NBA, NFL and MLB are all pretty much followed across the land.
Football is HUGE in the south though.

It probably won't be too much longer until hockey prospects begin to come out of the Southern states, especially Texas. Hockey is fully integrated into the South and it was funny how some Canadians couldn't stand the thought of the Cup being won in Dallas. Auto racing, mainly NASCAR, generates insane amounts of money and attendance in the South-Southeast region. Wrestling remains huge at many universities in the Midwest area of the country, but isn't close to being a core sport to most universities in Texas that I know of.

So Oz, i know you're dying to talk about it, so this is me feigning interest (hell if i can do it about NFL & baseball, I can do it about ANYTHING).
So who are you going for?
I have a friend that is a huge 'Pies fan, so i guess i'll hope they win, by default.
On a lighter note, the AFL grand final can only mean good things (like the end of the AFL season) & only 5 more sleeps until the 1st round of the NBL tips off.

Woooo I only just saw this thread.
In case anyone is wondering, Brisbane will win. Oh for sure. No doubt.
I was going to go down to Melbourne for the game but I have to go to a wedding. Pffft.

I am going for Collingwood. I think Brisbane may be a little too good, but I am hoping for the sake of many of my friends sanity that the pies do it.

Bringing this thread back to life!!!!
In case you didn't already know, the mighty Birsbane Lions won a hard-fought game to win 77 to 65 to repeat like Billy Madison for our 2nd premiership in a row. It was a great game to watch.

RE: Aussie Rules Grand Final- Brisbane v. Collingwood
bump. I figured seeing as it's the same teams in the GF this year, who needs to start a new one.
The only difference is that throughout this year (well...only since i went to a game a couple weeks ago
actually) I've become a fan!!
It's an awesome sport to watch. Why didn't you tell me this earlier OzMavs??
Go the 'Pies!

Aussie Rules Grand Final- Brisbane v. Collingwood
When I spent some time in Brisby, I noticed that cricket was very big there.
As far as Aussie rules, I dont know much about it, but my favorite Rugby team is the New Zealand All Blacks.

RE: Aussie Rules Grand Final- Brisbane v. Collingwood
Aussie Rules is mainly a Victorian thing...though the Brisbane Lions have won the last two GFs....i think.
Where i live we pretty much just pretend it doesn't exist though.

Good choice, Rod...I had the recent pleasure of watching the All Blacks take apart the Wantabies...er, Wallabies. Sorry.
Not.

You both made me laugh.
BTW, the ARF is very entertaining, but not very watched around here. I wonder, is there the female version? It would be MORE yet entertaining to watch it.

Aussie Rules Grand Final- Brisbane v. Collingwood
This will be an awesome game!!!
How happy am I when I visit the Other Sports Talk and I see this at the top. I nearly fell off my chair.
I hope Collingwood win this year. Go Pies.
Oh, and the rugby world cup is on soon too. But it is not nearly as important as the AFL. The All Blacks will win, but nobody will care.
Oh, and Veruca, don't tell me I didn't try. I actually got to pleading!!

RE: Aussie Rules Grand Final- Brisbane v. Collingwood
hehe...well I went to a game, as I said (Swans v Pies @ Telstra Stadium) and it was absolutely awesome.
PLUS!!!!! (AND that's a big plus) it has basically twice the drinking time of basketball! How good is that?
Well it was great, until the bar ran out of beer at 3/4 time.
It was awesome though, i think there was like 70, 000 people there or something ridiculous.
Like the biggest crowd outside of Victoria.
Go 'Pies!!!
(How much of a dumbass is Rocca though!? What the hell was he thinking!?)

Aussie Rules Grand Final- Brisbane v. Collingwood
My word I wish I could find some good Aussie beer around here....anyone know where I could get some VB, Carlton Cold, or hell I'd even settle for a 4X.....Foster's is not Australian for beer y'all.
Veruca, you talking about twice the drinking time made me remember one of the nights I went out while I was in Brisby. It was 2 for 1 night! That beer was the best I ever had and I got lit. Thats pissed to you Aussies.
