Default RE:Mavs/Clippers GameDay Thread

Dirk's shooting was atrocious. No doubt about that. But the reason the Mavs lost that game tonight is because they were physically dominated by the Clippers.

Walker, Jamison and Nash had solid games. About the only positive I can see. That, and Danny Fortson is a glass cleaner. What would it take for that guy to be allowed to come in and collect his last 2 fouls and about 6 more rebounds, Donnie?

As for the zone, I think that's what makes this team so terrible defensively. As Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley CORRECTLY pointed out, the only teams that play zone are teams that are too weak defensively to play man-to-man. And every good offensive team (and some average ones) beat a zone on a regular basis.

A zone is a nice change-up pitch on occasion, and it will give opponents problems for short stretches; however, over time, opposing NBA coaching staffs and players are just too smart. They figure out how to adjust, and they kill you.

I don't think Dallas has a bunch of great man-to-man defenders. But the sooner we scrap the damn zone and only use it sparingly, the better off we'll be. The only times this team has looked good defensively this season is in a man-to-man set.

You can't keep people off the offensive glass, and opponents pick it apart.

Death to the zone.

What is up with all the 10 year old, schoolyard namecalling lately? Mighty Toine, you're on the verge of a strike and possibly a vacation.

Sorry, Kg.

Got carried away there...

But simon is so blind that he would blame Walker despite him having a good game for DIRK'S ShortComings.... It just ticked me off, man.

You understand, don't you?

It is hard watching Dirk miss 10-15 footers. Those used to be the equivelent of a lay up for Dirk. And to top it all off, he is even shooting bad from the line. You know its got to be eating him inside to play this bad for this long. I agree with some others that he is tired of all the abuse that he takes playing center. It wears him down. Maybe if we get his ankles healed and get Bradley back, he might break out of this extended slump.

I agree with KG

The Mavs got it taken to them all night. Clipps were def the most aggresive all night long.

What happened to the 2nd best rebounding team in the league. Ill tell you what THE ZONE!!!!

Geez I hate it. Id rather get beat playing Man. At least then you can be in position to grab an F* ing Rebound!!!

Aside from the fact that dirk was aggresive and got to the line like crazy, which is very good and should not be ignored, yes, he had a horrible game. Lack of minutes and shots is no excuse tonight, just a stinker. However, or D was what concerned me more, or lack there of a D.

It is sad to see a team that took care of business so well the last couple of seasons struggle against inferior teams..even though they are improved....

if this teams gets much lower, cuban will do something drastic......which may or may not be what this team will ultimately need.....

I wouldn't be surprised if Cubes isn't planning something right now. This team is in trouble. We're just not jelling as a team on either end. Our D sucks and our O sucks as well. And our superstar looks like crap more times than not. We're under .500 for the month and things don't look very good that we'll change that by month's end.

We have lost a lot of close games though. All it really boils down to is that Dirk, Fin and Bradley are injured... but we also beat the Lakers at home. So I doubt Cuban will make a move for awhile. if we had lost to LA it would be a different story though.

They said from the beginning it would take time. We have had problems on the road, but until the Clip game we were also playing much better than expected at home.

Of course we've had guys injured. But the trades we made were to provide a team talented enough to compensate for having injuries. And we're losing to lower tier teams, like the Clippers last night. If we have to be at full strength to take the Clippers, then we don't have much of a shot to take the title IMO. We had Nash, Walker, Jamison, and a semi-healthy Dirk. That should have been enough if we were playing well as a team. But we're not playing well as a team. It's not just injuries. We're not meshing.

I agree on that last part. The fact that we beat LA in their house may make Cuban stand pat for the time being and wait for his other players to get healthy. I think there's no doubt that Bradley's absence has played a major role in this team losing the Boston, Minnesota, and Clippers games. Finley needs to get back as well so Walker can go back to being the 4th option which he seems to excel at.

the arena sometimes shows the players exiting the arena after the game. Dirk looked absolutely in agony to me. Hands on head, not exactly talking to himself but deep in thought for sure. He's trying to suck it up and help the team, but I do think it's killing him to play this way...

Boy our backup point guard STINKS!!!!! As soon as nash goes out, the other team makes a run. They couldn't even get the ball INBOUNDS.. Absolutely horrible.

SOMEBODY Needs to get in Dirk's Face and tell him to stop f'n around. That SOMEBODY should let Dirk know that HE'S the Leader of this team and they will go only as far as he will take them.

perhaps better than MT, somebody ought remind Dirk how to hit wide open jumpers......I've never seen sucha pure shooter be "off" for so long......

I think it was too soon in our development to handle this many injuries though. And even then... we have barely lost most of these games.

There is nothing wrong with criticizing a team if your points are valid. But most of the armchair coaches on this board talk pseudo-basketball-ese and make results oriented comments as if they actually have an understanding of the game at the pro level. Most of the comments are based on disappointment from unrealistic expectations or the most ludicrous notion that you sitting in your barc-o-lounger knows more about how to win basketball games than Nelson. Just not gonna happen, boysan.-TwoDeep3

I don't appreciate being insulted on this board (implied insults as they may be)
I have never lowered myself to name calling and have only popsted opinions. Which is what a message board is for.

I thought stuff like this wasn't allowed on this message board. Isn't that why MightyToine got yelled at and warned? so why is this post allowed to stay?

Because OutletPass is a DIAMOND MEMBER (whatever that means) and DM's I guess get special treatment here.

If you knew the situation a bit better, you guys would realize you weren't the ones being insulted.

That was obviously an insult.
Being that 3 of the names mentioned are either Antoine defenders or Antoine haters.

If it isn't an insult then please explain to us why that is?

The arena sometimes shows the players exiting the arena after the game. Dirk looked absolutely in agony to me. Hands on head, not exactly talking to himself but deep in thought for sure. He's trying to suck it up and help the team, but I do think it's killing him to play this way...
yeah, i was at the game, and dirk looked completely frustrated with himself. during warmups before the second half i was watching him because i was hoping he would catch fire, and he was missing the majority of his shots...he even missed a layup! now, dirk usually makes almost every shot during warmup, so this was very weird. and he got this look on his face after every missed shot that just said how angry/frustrated he was. he even had a choice word or two after some of the misses.
