It you want to get good at something, you need to practice it. And you need to practice it the way you want to do it. I'm afraid most of the Mavs practices probably have the same half @$$ effort as to night or focus very little on D or both. Elite teams don't practice that way. I can't say for certain that this is how the Mavs practice, but their play sure makes it look that way. Practice should ingrain habits in players where it's second nature to do the things practiced. That doesn't seem to be the case with the Mavs.

Actually LRB, I thought mavs got a little better at defense last year or atleast they made some improvements in that area. They look very bad now. We cannot keep the same reason for being bad be accepted because Spurs just lost Robinson and have totally changed their team outlook and still look great on their defense.

No joke it is bad.

Nash and Finley don't get their hands on nearly enough balls on the perimeter. Finley is average on D, and Nash is pretty bad.

Jamison is bad on defense. He can't guard 4's and doesn't have the lateral movement to play 3's.

Dirk let Jason (or is it Jaron) Collins drive right around him twice tonight. Collins has serious leg problems and shouldn't be driving around anyone.

The zone just gives the players more opporunity to rest on defense. They have terrible fundamentals and completely turn their heads when their man passes and are easy targets for give and go's.

The zone also allows them to be lazy in boxing out. They don't have man and instead of finding one they go right to the hoop and opposing players have free reign to the front of the rim.

So many holes in the zone that any good team can get any look they want.

Our man to man may be just as bad, but I think Man creates some aggression. The zone creates passive action on the Mavs.

you know it is bad when the Utah announcers are comparing a Greg Ostertag post move to Hakeems..Yep it was that bad.

C_jk, I do not want to put Dirk in the mix too often but you are right. I have never seen in my life that Kerry Collins making those moves. Dirsk should be ashamed of that. Infact let me open a thread for this.
