Where's the respect?

Quote:
The Mavs are frighteningly good right now. Trouble is, they don't scare anyone outside of Dallas. The Mavs won their eighth straight Sunday, 108-99 over the also-average-on-the-road Kings. To get to 10: win at Seattle, then at Utah.

What's the deal? San Antonio wins 14 straight against average teams and "they're back", but we win 8 straight and "we can't win outside of Dallas"?

Can we get some friggin respect please?

Yeah, I saw that too. I can't remember ever seeing a headlining blurb like that after a team stretches a winning streak by beating the team with the best record in the league. Oh well, like Dude said: scoreboard.

Respect? We don't need no respect. With apologgies to Toby Keith... this song goes out to Mavs fans and a "naah nahh" to King fans.....

DFW girls and DFW guys
we'll always stand up and salute
we'll always recognize
when we see our team playin'
so hard and determined
so we can sleep in peace at night
when we lay down our head

Nowitzki served in the army
till they gave him the boot
but Holger found him in the gym one day
and began to teach him how to shoot
then he was teamed up with Walker, Antwan, Nash and Finley
to mature and grow up with a fun loving team

now this team that i love has fallen under attack
a mighty sucker punch came flying from a Maloof in the back
soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye
man we lit up their team like the fourth of july

hey Mark Cuban put your name at the top of his list
and the mighty Big Don started shaking his fist
and the 3s will fly and it's gonna be hell
when you hear Del Harris start ringin' his cowbell
and it'll feel like the whole wide world is rainin' down on you
ah, brought to you courtesy of the green white and blue

justice will be served and the battle will rage
this big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
you'll be sorry that you messed with us at the ole' AA
cause we'll put a sneaker in your ass it's the Maverick way

hey Mark Cuban put your name at the top of his list
and the mighty Big Don started shaking his fist
and the 3s will fly and it's gonna be hell
when you hear Del Harris start ringin' his cowbell
and it'll feel like the whole wide world is rainin' down on you
ah, brought to you courtesy of the green white and blue
of the green white and blue -
of my green white and blue

I think all the media looks at is the Road record we have right now. They don't pay attention to small "details" like us having won 4(or 5?) road games in a row.....

how about a montage of all the talking heads pronouncing that the mavs can't win in the playoffs to be broadcast on Fox sports and ESPN

I don't have a problem with the quote. It's a fact. The Mavs have sucked on the road this year.

Besides, Memphis also has an 8 game winning streak... and they also beat the team with the best record in the league.... and no one is declaring them ready to win a championship. We say "nice run Memphis, but you're not ready for prime time."

Well, the Mavs had a great win today... now they need to keep improving.... and prove themselves in February, March, and through the playoffs... and until they do most will agree "Dallas can put together some nice runs, but they're not ready for prime time."

I know it's true....but it's just the way it was done that pisses me off (The Mavs have won 8 in a row BUT can only win at home, and beating the Kings doesn't matter much because they're a bad road team anyways). Plus, this isn't an 8 seed we're talking about here, this is a team that's won 55+ games the past 3 years, and is a 1/2 game back of the defending champs...

Respect is overrated in a sport with a playoff system. Crying for respect now is basically conceding that you're team won't win it all so you want to be recognized mid-season.

Remember that dirk is a bust, should have kept traylor. Nash is not the answer. The suns got the better deals(FIn trade also). All those things they said we pretty much stuck it up theirs. Maybe that could be the reason why they hate us so much. An ego thing..... Just a thought

From Yahoo:

Their eighth straight victory didn't come against another struggling team or the injured-riddled Los Angeles Lakers. This time, the Mavericks beat the team that came in with the Western Conference's best record.

Did they really have to say that...........

West top 5
2-2 Lakers winning the last two (Series tied)
2-0 Sacramento
2-0 San Antonio
2-1 Minnesota
2-1 Portland
1-0 Houston
total
11-4 versus the top 6 in the West

We're on top of all of the top 5 in the West (plus Portland) except for the Lakers who we tied (by winning the last two).

East top 5
1-0 New Jersey
1-0 New Orleans
1-1 Milwaukee
0-1 Detroit
0-1 Indiana
0-1 Boston
3-4 versus the top 6 of the East though....

We need to win the last one on Detroit, and a tough one in Indiana and we will come out even on them. We already split the series against Milwaukee earlier this year. We are one game up on New Orleans and New Jersey and can sweep them if we win on their courts.

Even though the Mavs don't have the respect of the media, you can bet they have the respect of the top teams in the league. At least the Mavs aren't playing scared anymore. We'll have to wait till the Lakers are healthy for the ultimate test.

Lets not get outta hand here now. Sure the mavs have got my respect but if you take a look at the past 8 the only good team was SAC. Denver was an ok win as it was in Denver. But no other quality wins. Still to win 8 in a row is impressive and not many teams have done that this year. I look for the Mavs to be on a decent roll until the latter part of Feb and all of March where you guys are on the road alot.

I'd say the road wins in Denver and Portland were "quality wins" as were the home wins against New Jersey and Sacramento, but you make a fair point about the schedule in the last 8. Still, at the beginning of this streak the Mavs were struggling to beat teams like New York and Philadelphia, and as the streak has progressed you can sense momentum building. The remaining three games in January are all very winnable, and February should be a good month for the Mavs.

BTW, off topic, but nice win by your Rox the other night in Indiana...

That is a bunch of craps about playing against inferior opponents during this winning stretch. We have win 5 straights on the road. The way this team has been playing on the road prior to this winning streak, any road win is a very "qualify win".

Exactly. In the end, what do we need the media for? If we can enjoy the achievements of the team, the media can go to...Besides, it's sweeter this way.

It was indeed those so-called "easy road wins" that killed the Mavs early record. Winning those games now means they are starting to turn the corner.

Hard road games upcoming, though: back to back at Sea (where they lost both times last year) and Utah (where they got hammered a few weeks ago.

You are correct. Sorry for the oversight. What I'm trying to say is I think the Lakers are still the team to beat when they are healthy. I would like to see a healthy Mavs and a healthy Lakers play. Anyway, I love the win at Sac but let's not forget they don't have Webber. Just imagine Webber instead of Songaila. Its depends which Webber shows up. It will probably be a rusty and out of shape Webber. As long as the Mavs don't beat a healthy Kings or a healthy Lakers, they won't get any respect because the media will find an excuse to put them down. Beating teams at their peak will silence the critics.

Most astute point. The key is how this team views itself. They are playing with supreme confidence that they can beat anyone with our without the media's blessing.

Moreover, despite who they have played, on the road or at home, they are improving their defense and learning that through their solid defensive effort, they are generating easy baskets.

I'm more pleased with the Mavs progress on the court no matter who we're playing, I see them improving game by game. Let's hope they continue this improvement, even wjem they lose some games along the way, I just don't want to see them regressing.
