DALM ...re Sea trading Barry, you said "Why would Seattle do it? They think Barry is going to leave anyway. Back to, if Daniels were added, or maybe a pick and some $$$$. I can see it happening, if Mark wants it to. I do not know if they would have any interest in Delk/Najera/Fortson/Daniels, but I would be on the phone finding out."

Barry may leave, but the problem is money and Sea's lack of willingness to do a long term (4 yr) deal. Why would they take on long term overpaid players like Delk and Fortson and etc if they arent willing to do so for Barry, who they already have and want. All the players on the list to go to Sea, there is no way. Delk-overpaid. Fortson-overpaid. Najera -damaged goods. Daniels-unproven. Aint no way - and if you are Cuban, do you make "stupid" calls to ask about deals? Aint no way.

I understand your reasoning, dalmations.

But the truth is this : Walker WANTS TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. He already has money that has him set for life from his boston days so taking a paycut to be on a CHAMPIONSHIP-CALIBER Team(where he's the 4th option) is merely a small price to pay to win.

He doesn't need more money. He's 27 and would like to spend the rest of his career playing for championships and NOTHING ELSE.

MT ..."Aahh but Walker won't want to play in a DEAD-ARENA like Phillips where there's ZERO Fan-Base. He'd ask for a trade IMMEDIATELY."

Sorry man, but even though I think AW is likely not going to be traded, your rationale is ABSURD.

Walker is NOT the one driving this train. This is not about where Walker wants to play, it is about what is best for the Mavs. He gets $14M+ to play where he is. If traded to Atl, he might want to be elsewhere, but he would play his butt off, cause he will be in a contract year.

Hey..I'm not suggesting that he would dog it while there but He sure as hell would want to get the HECK out of dodge afterward.

MT .."He doesn't need more money"

You are pretty free at spending his money, arent you? lol ...Even though he may prefer to play on a winner, I suspect that the money is still very much a factor in how he thinks when it comes time to sign a new deal in a year.

That's why the ball is in CUBAN'S court when that time comes(provided that Walker is still here). Cuban would make the absolute-BEST offer that he could short of the MAX for Walk('cause Mark will MAX out Nash, period.)

When all's said and done, I see Walker being with the team for a long time.

And by the way, if the issue in your mind is "would he resign with Dallas for less than the max," then I think thats probably true.

But I dont see that question as any part of the rationale for him being possibly traded (like it was in Boston). In Boston, they traded him away cause they were scared of the next contract. Here, the next contract isnt an issue - the only issue is whether or not this team can win a title with him here, and whether or not they can get a great offer for him in a trade that would make the team clearly better.

If his contract runs out here and he wants to stay, I think he will get an offer from the Mavs, but that it will be a salary REDUCTION. He is OVERpaid here right now, and no way the Mavs can justify paying him more than they pay Dirk or Nash. So we will likely see whether or not he really wants to stay here, if they dont trade him. If he really doesnt care about the money, he could even opt out THIS year and get the whole thing resolved with a new multi-year deal for less, and add in a no-trade clause.

See? That's what's so intriguing.... Does Walker want to stay here bad enough that he would forego the final 14 mill of his one and ONLY MAX Contract or Not?

My gut feeling says he won't BUT he would most likely re-sign with the team following the end of Next season(provided he isn't dealt)...

My Heart is telling me that he WILL opt out and sign a 6-7 year deal...

I wouldn't mind keeping Walker under those conditions MT, and that will probably will be the only way he can remain in Dallas..He is not the only one who should be willing to take a paycut Michael Finley is another player that is a little overpaid in my opinion, but he spends his money wisely through charities and helping people in the community, and that's what making the big bucks should be all about...

The only other reason he would get dealt is if Don Nelson gets replaced next season..I can't imagine another coach like Pat Riley trying to win a title with this lineup...

Walker for no reason should opt out. If he does we will have to protect 1 other player in the expansion draft...oh and Toine wouldn't ever make up that money.

Back to my question above?

Which helps the Dallas Mavericks the most?
Walker and his ability to play 1-4 and pass, rebound, but who has problems with his 3pts, and FT's.
Or Wallace and his ability to play 3-5, pass, rebound, but who has "head" problems?

I am not saying that we can make that trade, even if everyone here would agree.

You got it backwards dude. If Walker opts out, then we are able to protect one other player. Thats a good thing.

DALM ...I agree that Wallace would provide more of what the Mavs need, than AW does. But the flip side is, "continuity" matters. And you aren't certain to be able to resign Wallace.

So you have to ask the question: would the trade be enough of an upgrade to be worth the disruption that comes with a change? And would the price of Walker be worth getting a Wallace that you might lose in the summer?

So did Walker in Boston but he wanted to keep it low-key. He didn't exactly beat his chest, so to speak, about it to everyone.

I'll take the Flawed-yet-Talented-as-heck Player over the Nut-case for 100, Alex.

I'll take the GOOD-CHARACTER guy over the Malcontent for 200.

Edit : Walker can play the 5 at times, too.
