Default Sheed to Detroit.

Pistons get Sheed and Mike James. Boston Chucky Atkins, Hunter and 1st rounder from Detroit.

Atlanta gets a bunch of expiring contracts and a 1st rounder.

Great place for Rasheed to land. Larry Brown can really help him, and Rasheed can really help Detroit. They might be the frontrunner in the East now.

very good trade and situation for detroit...it'll be interesting to see whether they try to hold on to him this offseason or not.

DIRK ..... Sheed wont be back. Det has no cap room, and will renounce Sheeds rights immediately after the season so they can resign Okur.

I'm not sure if there are rules about the order in which you have to address contracts, but DET will have the right to go over the cap on Wallace even if they can't for Okur. Assuming they wanted to keep Sheed and were willing to pay him what it would take, couldn't they postpone dealing with Sheed's contract until after they had resigned Okur?

If Sheed does go to the Knicks as it seems he intends to do, that will bring up the question:

Has any player ever played for 4 different teams in the span of 40 games (more or less) ?

GC .... "couldn't they postpone dealing with Sheed's contract until after they had resigned Okur?"

Nope. They would be immediately hit with a cap charge in excess of his current salary, until they re-sign him. Since his current salary is approx $17M, they would lose Okur becuase they would be easily outbid..

I thought Sheed was an unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the year. Would they have to keep his salary on the books in order to keep his Bird rights? Or are the Bird Rights, just the right to sign him?

I was under the assumption as well, that they could sign OKUR and Wallace, as long as only the second signing puts them over the Cap.

DALM ...Nope. Bird rights would allow them to go over the cap for Sheed, but until a contract is actually signed they get hit with a theoretical number on their cap for a player with Bird rights. So that closes up all their cap room for Okur. The only way they have room to sign Okur is to renounce their rights to Sheed - which means they lose Bird rights on him.

Welcome to New York, Rasheed Wallace.

On the other hand, I will not feel sorry for Larry Brown when (not if) Wallace blows up and destroys the team, as I felt sympathy for Brown previously when he was in Philly dealing with Thuglet Iverson.

It is interesting that Larry Brown can't seem to sit still with any team. I realize that Joe Dumars is running that team, and they seem to have a pretty good reason to do this - make their run at the Finals, and give themselves room to resign Mehmet. But I wonder how long Larry will be content with some of these guys. It seems the grass is always greener with him.

I am interested to see how Rasheed will play the rest of this season because I do think he may factor into the Mavs rumors again, in the future. Maybe he'll prove that he can be a solid contributer on a good team? Or maybe he'll prove that he is the headcase some make him out to be? Either way, it looks like someone else will be the guinea pig...

Obviously he is off the radar for now, but in the summer he will be wide open again, with the Knicks and the Mavs part of the rumor mill. It is unlikely there will be mutual attraction between him and a team way under the cap, which means it will be like college recruiting where all the suitors have essentially the same thing to offer.

What a better place for Weed to be than Detroit. Perhaps the cancer thing was way overstated. According to Dale Davis he was a great teammate. He just needs to lay off the joints and play ball.

This guy's career is done. He could be great is like saying the clippers will make the playoffs. Or Nellie will stop playing Zone. It ain't happenin. Way to make a bad thing become worst.
