Three Way Deal: Bos/Det/ATL
Boston gets: Chucky Atkins, Lindsey Hunter and the Pistons first round pick this year.
Detroit gets: Rasheed Wallace and Mike James
Atlanta gets: Chris Mills, Zeljko Rebraca, Bob Sura and the Bucks first round pick owed to Detroit.

RE:Three Way Deal: Bos/Det/ATL
I really like this for both Rasheed and Detroit. They could really help each other out here.
Boston exchanges PGs and gets a pick. They do pretty welll here.
Atlanta looks like they have no clue...At least they keep their caproom and add a pick.

RE: Three Way Deal: Bos/Det/ATL
whoa, two threads at exactly the same time!
i think the pistons make out well in this trade. rasheed and an ok talent in james. i wonder if the pistons tried to get banks? he seems to be a good young talent. the big question is if sheed will resign.
on the flip side, this may open up playing time for banks in boston. atkins is an ok PG. certainly not an upgrade over james. boston gets a pick, too... but the pistons pick probably will be late in the 1st. hunter? adds another shooter. this is kind of a lateral move for boston.
atlanta continues to get expiring contracts. the bucks pick won't be high either.

In Detroit's case, it doesn't matter. Both players they let go were in their last years, and didn't have a big impact on court for the Pistons. In my opinion, that's getting something for nothing.

I don't think they want Rasheed to resign. Okur is a FA this summer and if they don't get far enough under the cap then they won't be able to match any offer over the MLE.

If the Pistons think they can Sign Rasheed they will trade Okur. The Mavs are interested in him, Maybe we can work something out with Detroit right now?

DIRNO ... Sheed will NOT be back. Look for Det to renounce his rights, immedaitely after the season, for cap room.

MAVS ...if we traded for Okur, we would lose him in July without question.

they really want to sign okur, i agree.
and good point about trading scrub expiring contracts for someone that can really help. i would think, though, that the pistons would want to resign sheed over okur.
but man, quite a frontline for the pistons now. especially in the east.

If Mavs413 is right then maybe they would facilitate a sign and trade for Okur in the off-season. We could give then Walker and his expiring contract. Obviously LB doesn't have a problem with volume shooters.

MAVS, DIRNO ... If they lose the ability to re-sign Okur, then they lose the abilty to send him away in a s-n-t too. If they sign Sheed, Okur walks away free to some other place. You can forget Okur in Dallas, it is virtually impossible.

I think they will have enough cap room to sign both of them. With atkins contract of the books as well and sheed willing to go for around the mle

Detroit has just narrowed the gap with Indiana even more.
Boston didn't improve enough to matter.
Atlanta is now officially a team of spares.

Good point. I forgot that the 1st part of sign and trade is "sign"

Not even close. Okur alone will go for 7-9, maybe more. They will be able to keep one and lose one.

An incredible deal for Detriot. They HAD to move Atkins to resign Okur and not only did they do that, they rented Wallace for the rest of the season. The GM did a fantastic job.

If Artest doesn't get back from surgery soon it won't be much of a race come playoff time.

but why did boston do this? surely they could have gotten something better for mills' contract... or they could have just waited and let the salary come off the books. was the pistons pick that valuable?

RE: Three Way Deal: Bos/Det/ATL
i was on a boston board earlier and they just don't understand anything ainge does
if ainge is trying to rebuild, you'd think they could get better than the pistons pick. but maybe they just want as many picks as they can get. is the draft this year supposed to have that much talent late in the first?

RE: Three Way Deal: Bos/Det/ATL
BBL .... Actually the draft this year is sposed to be crap-alicious, especially after about the top 10. Teams will be forced to give 3-year guaranteed deals to guys who have almost no real NBA potential, on many players near the end of round 1. Boston now will have the privilege of getting several of those types to clutter up its roster for a few years. And they got Atkins contract to pay for, for several more years, as another downside. And NO upside to what they did. Boston is in WeirdLand.

yeah, that's what i thought... outside of the top 5 or 10, there's no real talent. i just wanted to confirm that.
boston should have just waited and let mills contract go if they weren't going to get any talent back. anyone know what james' contract looked like?

I agree Artest adds a lot, but they still have the other O'Neil and sturdy defense. This actually piques my interest for the Eastern Conference.

James is on 1 year at the minimum, or thereabouts.
Hoopshype.com has all the general contract info for each player, by team

makes even less sense from a bsoton standpoint.
thanks for the site, PE. i have been looking for a site like that. looks like if we stand pat, we'll be under the cap for 2008-2009...

Oh I hope not! (seriously) ..... Being under the cap has huge rules disadvantages as well as much smaller talent base

Maybe I'm high, but I don't think being under the cap is that "huge" a disadvantage. Please further your point, I'm curious (seriously).

IF UNDER - Trades are much harder (fewer trading pieces to make a salary match) .... Very limited opportunity to sign a FA (it is extremely rare to have room for a MAJOR signing) .... Harder to have enough talent to attract good players ....

yeah, my comment about the cap thing was a joke. all our current contracts are up by that time. if we stood pat, we'd have no players left.

RE:Three Way Deal: Bos/Det/ATL
Ainge makes me laugh.
The Ultimate downfall of that C's team that went to the playoffs in back-to-back years began with a stupid trade based on ANGER rather than LOGIC.
Celtic fans can say all they want about Walker's desire for an extension...That's still no excuse for Ainge accepting a deal as crappy as the one he did which sent Walker to Dallas in exchange for one decent-at-best player, one Walking injury, and a pine-sitting-Contract(Mills).
Ainge could've waited and let Walker RE-BUILD *some* of his value on the Market and then possibly get a much better deal either at the Trade deadline or the next offseason....Instead, he got pissed at Walker giving him an attitude and sent him packing to ANYWHERE since he obviously didn't care one way or the other....
he then exacerbated things by trading Eric Williams and Battie during a Streak of 100+ POINT GAMES by the Celtics...the CELTICS.
Nice job, Danny. You are certainly the Executive of the Year over there.
