favorite place to eat?
let's go with up scale.
run of the mill
and hole in the wall
...and fast food

three different categories.
although a $20 meal isn't necessarily upscale, it is a good cutoff place...anything above that, let's classify as upscale

hmm..well, for run of the mill...
Cheddars
for fast food
McDonald's
for upscale
Saltgrass...Bob's steak and chophouse
for hole in the wall
Bari's italian..it's in denton near UNT..cheap food, but great

Most people have never heard of the place. And when I tell them about the duct tape on the seats they freak out. Then they try a burger and they are hooked.

My fave food is Korean so my fave restaurants are Woo Me Ok in Garland, and Nam Gang and Korea House in K-Town (I-35/Royal). Not exactly upscale dining but it's so damn expensive (me and my gf average $35 for dinner) I also really like Edamame, even though it caters to the yuppy Oak Lawn/McKinney crowd.

Fave cheap to mid-range restaurants are Blue Mesa, On the Border (salsa...mmmmm!), and TGI Fridays.

Fave upscale restaurants..hmmm. Mi Piaci, The Mercury, Lombardi Mare, and the Palm are all awesome. Don't have a fave though, since it's not like I can afford to go to each one on a regular basis.

Best fast food restaurant is Whataburger hands down. Chicken strips..mmmmmmmm! Also love Grandys' country fried steak.

Favorite hole-in-the-wall places are Jeng Chi Bakery in Richardson (more of a restaurant than a bakery..they've become incredibly popular the last couple years though it's always crowded) and First Chinese BBQ, also in Richardson. Cheap and awesome chinese food..yum!

I didn't know Cheddar's had a monte cristo. Bennigan's is where I get my deep-fried sandwich fix.

Best Bargain I like that one, some thoughts:
El Fenix Wednesday night, $4.89 for two enchilladas, rice, beans, tortillas, chips and salsa
Blue Mesa Happy Hour: Free Quessadillas, Chips and Salsa, I love those sweet potato chips
Right now Kroger's : New York Strips, $2.99 lb, pretty good cuts too.

Oh this is fun! I didn't eat at a lot of restaraunts until I got out here to CA, so some of these may be new to you:

Run of the Mill: (hardest to decide)
Hole in the wall: Biggie Burger in Carlsbad, CA
Fast food: In-N-Out Burger (good call BBL!!) or Matsuwu (Japanese)
Upscale: Clint Eastwood has a nice restaraunt in Carmel

Best Italian: Bari's in Sherman, TX
Best Steak: The Butcher Shop
Best Chinese: P.F. Chang's (watch out for the mustard. I thought I'd licked a light socket)
Best Pizza: My Mom's, hands down.
Best Bagels: Einstein Brother's
Best Coffee: A place called "Just Desserts" in the San Francisco Airport this morning!! (my flight got in at 5:30 AM) made by some San Fran Coffee Co. Oh, and Starbucks.
Best Dessert: The Cheesecake Factory
My favorite restaraunt: Shein of Osaka (Japanese)

Ok here's a new one..what's everyone's favorite place for dessert? I'm so generic..I love Cheesecake Factory I also looove the desserts at fancy brunches like at Hotel Intercontinental (fruit and cream tarts, creme brulee...mmmmmm!).

Run of the Mill: Wings & More. Local to A&M, here. Some Aggie that was a defensive lineman for the Browns during Elway's The Drive owns them. Best wings, ribs, everything, hands down.

Hole in the wall: Taco Loco in Hamilton, TX. My hometown. Or, China Wok in College Station. It's just a small buffet that is always really good, for like $5.

Fast food: Chicken Express, Taco Cabana, McDonalds

Upscale: I don't do upscale. Pappadeaux is as big-money as I get.

Best Mexican: Taco Cabana goes here, too, On the Border for Tex-Mex.

Best Seafood: Pappadeaux

Best Pizza: Papa John's, by a WIDE margin. It's all I'll eat besides homemade and CiCi's cheapizza.

Best Buffet: CiCi's!! I once ate 17 pieces of pizza, and 4 of those chocolate breadstick things. All for $4.31.

Best Hamburger: Storm's Hamburgers (Hamilton, Lampasas, and Marble Falls) If you're ever traveling on Highway 281 through central/south-central Texas, you can go to any of these three places. It's beautiful. And if you stop at the one in Hamilton, you're a quarter-mile from my parents' house. Drop my name enough and someone is bound to know me. Small town.

Best Steak: Hmmm... the best steak is at home off the grill.

The repressed city of Waco has too few places to choose from....but here goes.
favorite place to eat = The Coffee Shop in McGregor, TX (20 miles from Waco)
up scale = DiamondBacks (great steaks)
run of the mill = Uncle Dan's BBQ, OutBack ,Ci Ci's, Shlotzskis (sp?), Johnny Carino's, Fuddruckers, El Conquistador & Red Lobster
and hole in the wall = The Coffee Shop in McGregor again (That's why it's my favorite)
and fast food = Ugh...try to avoid it, but Fazoli's, Souper Salad, Taco Hell, and Capt. Billy Whizzbangs Burgers

(Pass the Tums)

When have you been to/through Hamilton, Murph? I like it. Plenty of good little places to eat with hole in the walls -- forgot another one there, the Smoke Shack. BBQ and fried apple pies to die for. And we just got a Chicken Express there, over the Christmas break. When we were Seniors in high school, 4 of my friends and I started a monthly tradition of going to Chicken Express in Stephenville (45 min. away) and getting 60 chicken tenders, 5 family size orders of mashed potatoes, and one family size order of okra and we'd put it in the trunk of my car and drive it back to Hamilton and eat it. Being a small town and all, we brought attention to Chicken Express and it became sort of the de facto eating place for all of the out of town trips that Hamilton sports teams and stuff would take, and it's popularity among the people around town grew like crazy. We all like to think that without us they would have never been able to build a Chicken Express in Hamilton. I'm sure that's totally untrue, though.

Dr Bio -- Coffee Shop in McGregor, where is that? I always used to love the milkshakes from Grant's there in McGregor. Waco is where we would always go to shop, it has the closest mall to Hamilton, and we always used to stop on the way home and get milkshakes from Grant's.

I forgot about Fuddruckers and Red Lobster. Amen to both of those. I haven't been to Fuddruckers in like, two or three years. I'm going this week.

Rhylan - It's been in McGregor for a couple years now. It sits between the western city limits and 317 (the road to Crawford near the railroad bridge) on highway 84. It's about 100 yards east of the Dairy Queen (which has been there forever).

It was then too. Apparently there is a prison-slash-trade school nearby. But my job transferred me to Waco for a few months and it was the first apartment I found.

<< Rhylan - It's been in McGregor for a couple years now. It sits between the western city limits and 317 (the road to Crawford near the railroad bridge) on highway 84. It's about 100 yards east of the Dairy Queen (which has been there forever). >>

Oh! Yep, I know exactly the one you're talking about. Every time I drive through there, I think to myself, "surely that's more than just a Coffee Shop."

By the way a Central Market is opening on George Bush and Custer on Wednesday. A wonderful place for those who have not been to one before.
