ARLINGTON -- With no permit to sell beer, a southwest Arlington Hooters restaurant began serving free beer Wednesday.
To kick off its announcement, the business served up green beer in frosty mugs.
Hooters' application to sell beer has been in limbo since October 2001, when company officials disclosed plans to build a restaurant in a shopping center at Little Road and Interstate 20.
Hooters officials said the restaurant will serve the free beer while it appeals a county judges ruling Tuesday that denied the beer application.
Judge Vincent Sprinkle said the license warranted refusal based on the general welfare and morals of the surrounding community and on the public sense of decency.
Hooters, at 5821 W. Interstate 20, must stop selling beer. However, the restaurant can give it away free or allow customers to bring in their own alcohol. The restaurant plans to give the beer away indefinitely, said Scott Wilkinson, company spokesman.
