The Lakers lost center Jamal Sampson to the Charlotte Hornets in Tuesday night's expansion draft. The organization had hoped to protect Sampson, but could not when Kobe Bryant waited until Friday to notify the club of his intention to opt out of his contract. The Lakers' list of eight protected players was due Thursday. Sampson, 21, averaged 2.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 10 games for the Lakers, then suffered foot and ankle injuries that eventually required surgery. |

They probably waited until Friday to officially ask him...Kobe has maintained since last October that he was opting out.

man, LA is down on everyone right now. It's just like Laker fans-- they leave after three quarters, come in after the first quarter, go to games to be seen (instead of seeing),
and they are, for the most part, only fair-weather fans Who knows if it was Kobe or the Laker franchise that "cost" them that spare. Sampson had a decent chance of being a backup center but he never dominated. |

Well if the Lakers were not given Official Notice by Kobe til Friday, there was nothing else they could have done. All the verbal things didnt matter.
