Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
I look at what we have now, and i think we could be good to go if we could find a decent center like Dampier. We are already deep enough to play better than last year.
Our lineup now assuming we resign Nash and Daniels
Nash/Harris
Daniels/Howard
Finley/Stackhouse
Dirk/Laettner/Najera
Bradley/Fortson/Pavel
IR: Wahad/Delk/steffansson
*I purposly left off Walker
I think we could trade Walker/Delk or Walker/Fortson, and we'd be set
This does work under the cap
Dallas trades: Walker and Fortson
Dallas receives: Robinson/Dalembert/Mohammad
New York trades: Thomas/Mohammad/Trybanski
New York receives: Walker/McKie
Philadelphia trades:Robinson/McKie/Dalembert
Philadelphia receive: Thomas/Fortson/Trybanski

in response to the thread title question: does this team want to win a ring now?

RE: Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
I can't see any way Philly gives up Dalamebert in that scenario. Furthermore, we've already got too many players. We can't go around trading 2 and getting back 3.

RE: Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
Once you think about it, we could cut Iceman and buyout Delk's contract since it is not that big, and you're set to go.

They won't cut Iceman. If that was a serious option, they would have left him exposed for Charlotte to take. His contract is not guaranteed so it would be a clean cut, but it wouldn't make sense. If they need the spot, they could always offer him up to Charlotte for a future second rounder.

Trading Walker for Glenn Robinson is like trading a pike in the right eye for a poke in the left eye. No Thanks.

RE:Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
Pavel this year is going to be like Stefansson from last year. Just park him on the IR, and let him learn.
I also agree that you don't need to give up 2 and take back 3.....have to many already.
I don't think this team has to have Shaq, but it really does still need to upgrade the Center position without giving up everything to get there. Whether it is Damp, Foyle and Thomas, Diop and Dalembert, or Shaq. I really don't think it matter who, as much as it matter the style that they can defend.
Shaq just gives this team better odds to win it all, but several other options give them better odds as well.

RE: Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
Still need a legit center. I still want to see someone besides laettner at the 5 spot and that's what will happen. Dampier still seems to be what we need although laettner is a chippy sob, I like that.

RE:Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
I was really hoping people were smart enough not to magically fall in love the new Mavs because they had a Mavs logo next to their name for 5 minutes on ESPN. Guess not.

RE:Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
Dooby, I like what the Mavs have in place for the future for the most part. However, I don't like their chances if they were to throw this lineup out there to start the season. It'd be a 50-55 win team, but would still have more than enough major issues to keep them from competing for a title.
Obviously, the Mavs still need a starting center.

RE:Does This Team Really Need Shaq?
Starting center. Starting center. Starting center....
Will Walk bring someone? Don't know. Have to think something's gonna happen though. And I still make everybody available to LA other than Dirk. But the Russian intrigues me right now....
Think LA would take him, Bradley, Walk, and change?
Probably not. But it would give them a center, a developing center, change, and, well, Walker...
