Is this trade far-fetched?
Dallas Trades
Michael Finley
Tariq Abdul Wahad
Portland Trades
Theo Ratliff
Derek Anderson
From a talent standpoint, it's obviously a steal, but from a monetary standpoint, it'll be great for Portland. B/c they do want to get out of both said player's contracts. This could help them out as far as luxury tax and salary cap. B/c when they make the trade, they could waive both Finley and Wahad. Wahad could come straight off the books, and since they'll be around the luxury threshold they could save $51 million by waiving Finley. Add on to that, NVE's gone after next year. And for Dallas, we could use our "exception" on Anderson and resign Finley(if that's allowable). If not, we could always keep him?
Dallas lineup
Terry/Harris
DA or Fin/Stackhouse
Howard/Daniels
Dirk/KVH
Damp/Ratliff

RE:Is this trade far-fetched?
I don't know if Portland would do that that, nor do I know if we could re-sign Fin if they waived him. However, if this deal were possible, it would be a great deal for us. We take on a little more salary-wise, but if we re-sign Fin for the vet-minimum then it wouldn't be too bad. If we did do this though, it would make the logjam at 2 even worse. Either Stack or Quis would have to go. Preferably Stack IMO.

Too good to be true, we would have the same problems at the 2/3 as we did at the 4 with walk/jami/dirk.

RE: Is this trade far-fetched?
For some reason, i thought it would make the 2/3 situation better b/c no one really needs a lot of minutes to be effective(except stack maybe).
Another trade i thought of is Finley/Wahad to LA for Grant/Jones/Divac. They'd get more use out of Finley then they would Grant. We'd also take Divac's contract. Plus we could play Jones as a backup 3 purely for jump shooting.

RE:Is this trade far-fetched?
If we keep Finley on the roster, we should only have one other adequete SG in order for Fin to be happy/effective. =\
If we let him go, others can develop.

RE: Is this trade far-fetched?
See Alby, the problem i see with that is we need more than one person to hit the three. Dirk will occassionally hit 3s, as will Avery. Terry's kinda hesistant to take 3s. Dallas needs someone who's more of a catch and shoot, which is what Anderson/Jones are.

RE: Is this trade far-fetched?
Actually, this deal is Great for Portland. They want to dump BOTH Anderson and Theo. Lets get technical.
Theo has 35 Mill left on his contract for 3 more years. Anderson has 18.8 Mill for 2 more years. 18.8 + 35 = 53.8 MILL.
They can't wave both players, that the problem.
Finley has 3 more years for 51 Mill. Abdul wahed is immediate cap relief. Abdul wahad has 14 Mill left on his contract. But they will only have to pay 2 because of insurance and he will not be considered in the luxury because he has been injured for more than 2 years.
If they do this trade and wave finely, they will save 51 + 12 = 63 Million in luxury.
Also the contract lengths are pretty similar so Portland would love this trade.
Of course we resign Finley (which we definitely can do) and get a good backup center that is insane in blocking shots.
I like how you think nash13, nice work.

I'd do the Portland, but not the LA trade.

RE:Is this trade far-fetched?
At first it does, but Portland needs leadership. Especially for their young guys like Telfair and the guy they drafted last night. I like Derek Anderson and Ratliff would fill our need of an athletic big. Guys on this team can learn to shoot. Inside baskets are far more valuable. Guys like Stackhouse, Dirk, and even KVH can all get to the whole occasionally. When Finley is off, he hurts our team. Unfortunatley he is off far too many times.
