Marion has to go, they have to resign Amare next summer. You can blame Nash for this =P

So in reality, this team isn't going anywhere.

I would not count out the Suns so easily. Even without Nash, they can probably look forward to Amare and Johnson improving every season.

Well that is true, but you will have two max players in Johnson and Amare, it will be hard to improve the other positions and/or improve depth.

They're both great players but if I've to choose only one, I'll keep Marion and let JJ go.

Joe Johnson (per ESPN) will sign the Hawks offer sheet on Monday. And he does not want the Suns to match.

Suns will sign Scott Padget and Raja Bell. Tell me how they are an upgrade on JJ, again?

Taken from Stein's ESPN article on the JJ situation.

Quote:
If Johnson winds up with the Hawks, Nash plans to intensify his efforts to recruit Michael Finley of the Dallas Mavericks as a replacement. Unless the Mavericks can trade Finley first, in hopes of keeping Finley out of the Western Conference, they are expected to use the new amnesty clause to release the 32-year-old and spare themselves from nearly $52 million in luxury-tax payments.
Future teammates?

Here is an article from AZ Repugnant about that. Link

Arizona Republic - Joe Johnson told ESPN.com Friday that he wants Phoenix to let him go to Atlanta.

ESPN.com reported that Johnson told Suns managing owner Robert Sarver this week that he would rather Phoenix not match the Hawks' five-year, $70 million offer sheet. He can sign the offer Tuesday, leaving the Suns a week to match and retain him.

Johnson told ESPN.com that the Suns still plan to match the offer, although a sign and trade could develop and would not have to match in salaries because Atlanta has cap room.

Johnson spoke out while in Toronto for Steve Nash's charity game.

"It's a lot of things," Johnson told ESPN.com. "How things were handled last summer (Sarver declined to give him $50 million for six years), how things have been handled this summer (Phoenix offered $60 million for six years). There's been some things going on that aren't great."

Johnson has not returned calls and canceled an early July meeting. His distaste for Phoenix is well known, according to other teams' officials. Talks turned nastier last week.

Johnson, 24, was wooed favorably by Atlanta, which told him he could be an All-Star and franchise face as a point guard. The Little Rock native prefers the South. Those close to him said he felt overlooked in the Suns' star pecking order.

Nash told ESPN.com that he tried to persuade him to stay.

"I would come back and work as hard as I ever have," Johnson told ESPN.com. "If they match, all this stuff is behind me from that minute on. I hope everybody puts everything behind them, too."

The Suns whipped the Mavs 4 games to 2... without Joe Johnson
The Suns beat the Mavs 4-2, not whipped. The Suns lucked out, Dallas lost Game 6 because of a mental mistake when they were up 3 pts/7 ticks left. And remember, while the Suns didn't have Joe Johnson, Dallas didn't have Keith Van Horn. While the Suns went to Jim Jackson to replace Joe Johnson, the Mavs had to endure minutes of Alan Henderson or Shawn Bradley trying to do something worthwhile on the basketball court. Van Horn would have made a huge different, I don't really even care for Van Horn but if there is one team he is a perfect matchup against it is the Suns because he makes Amare work defensively when Dampier is out.

Amare was going to score on whoever was in there, he put 37 ppg on the Spurs defense, you really don't have much of a choice. But when Dampier went out, the Mavericks would replace him with no one and that allowed Amare to coast defensively and on the boards. Van Horn would have made him work, would have taken him out of the lane defensively, and would have been effective.

But to say the Suns whipped Dallas when it took three comebacks to get three of their wins, well, that is laughable. Getting whipped is what happened the year before against the Kings, 4-1 in the 1st round. Whipped is what happened in 2001/02 when the Kings took the Mavs 4-1 in the 2nd round or in 2000/2001 when the Spurs beat the Mavs 4-1 in what was basically a 5 game sweep. Dallas never had a shot in that series, that is getting whipped. Dallas had a huge shot against the Suns, Jet should have fouled, but life goes on.

Dallas was 7 seconds, a mental mistake, from a Game 7 in an arena where they were 2-2 on the season and had a 7 point halftime lead in the last time they played there.

Jason Terry's mental mistake on one play doesn't deny the fact that we lost a double digit lead in the 4th quarter...
