Yup, it's over. After all that hoopla, that Detroit is going to win 70......... we're 1 game behind them.

This one's over. Now the Mavs have to beat the Spurs tomorrow, and that's one step closer to HCA all the way through the playoffs, and Dirk being MVP.

Well, well, well. How extremely interesting. That denver areana is tough for teams to come in a play, it's a nice built in advantage for the home team.
How delicious!

It's even better for them, because they get HCA in the first round because of the stupid division rules. I know every year there's a team that "nobody wants to play" in the first round, but this year I think it might actually be true in Denver's case.

Spiral I don't think that's true is it? I thought that no matter where the bracket was best record got hca.

They still have to have a better record than the 6 seed and right now they don't.

Is that the way it works? I thought it was HCA in the first round, and after that it goes to the best record. I really don't know.

Nope, best record gets home court. I'm hoping it happens as it will shed even more light on the absurdity of the system.

That's good to know. In that case, if I were memphis, I'd rather player Denver than Phoenix. Absurd indeed.

The Lakers are up five right now with about 5 1/2 minutes to go. The Kobes are shooting well over 50% for the game.

They barely got out of Seattle with a win last night and now this. Just looked at their schedule, after tonight they don't play again until Wednesday. Plenty of time for them to recharge their engines. They may have started their break a bit early.

Hmm.....Pistons down by 21 in the 4th. Soooooo......if the mavs win tonight and the Pistons certainly look to be losing now, the little mavs will be within one in the loss column of the pistons....
How would best record in the league look? Pretty sassy..

We're only 1 loss behind the Pistons now (and a full game up on the Spurs). Very nice.
The Lakers are on a pretty decent run of late, winning 4 of their last 5 including victories again Detroit and @ San Antonio (their only loss came against SA @ Staples).

And we got them on the 28th, too. It's the Mavericks' time.

It certainly is...long overdue sir, long overdue. We've also played 3 more games than them I believe.
Unfortunately, our game is going to be at The Palace, where Detroit is 28-2 this season. They have, however, lost 4 of their last 10. Like us, Detroit has hit something of a rough patch in their season - the way that we played in the Wizards win makes me more confident that by the time the 28th rolls around (and with 2 days rest) we're going to be ready to gun.
The only other time we played the Pistons this season, we held them to 82 pts. on .413 shooting. That's the lowest score (averaged) by any team in the NBA. We also dominated the boards, holding them to 26 rebs and did a great job disrupting their offense, limiting them to 17 asts (both the lowest by any NBA team, on average). I don't see us being as successful in our 2nd matchup but this is our opportunity to prove that we can not only run with the NBA's elite, we can beat them. Personally, I think that this game (along with the last San Antonio game) is a MUST WIN.

the last san antonio game is the most significant win. I don't believe in must win regular season games to be honest.
Like to win, good to win, important to confidence to win, yes but the only must win is the elimination game of a series.

Literally speaking, yes the only game that's a 'must-win' is an elimination game. Personally, I label both the SA and Detroit games as 'must-wins' because of where we are in the season. Losses at this critical juncture would suggest to me that we lack "it" whatever "it" may be - the mental/intestinal/testicular fortitude...to reach deep inside and win when it matters. That's why I was hit harder by the Spurs, Suns, and subsequent Kings losses than alot of the other posters on this board, I felt that it boded very poorly for a team that is making a Championship run to lack the intensity and hunger to pull out wins against its primary competition. I made the same criticism of the Heat in a different thread: Championship-calibre teams are not bred from beating poor or mediocre teams - they earn their stripes by beating the best...consistently - something I think we demonstrated earlier in the season but have been unable to demonstrate as of late.
Will we be out of contention if we lose both the upcoming SA and Detroit games? No, certainly not. Will it say something...a big something...about the Mavericks as a team if we lose? Yes. To me, it's more than just a confidence issue, it's an issue of a Champion's mentality. The value of these games is far greater than just a win, loss, or HCA. I believe we are capable of winning a Championship, as such, I believe that we are capable of being a better team than both the Pistons and Spurs. What excuse do we have then, if we mean to break the ranks of these two ultra-elite by becoming the only other team since 2002 to win an NBA Championship? None. True, technically, if we lose these two games, all we have to deal with is 2 more L's in the loss column. But, if we allow ourselves to lose these two games, it would suggest to me that these Mavericks are not yet ready for their place in history.

I would love to know why when a mavs player gets fouled at the end of a game we are forced to listen to some bs about officials just not calling fouls at the end of a game but other teams/stars get phantom calls at the end of games.

HA! Wrap it up, Detroit's done.
Nets 79 - 74 Pistons
Pistons drop to 55-14, 1 1/2 game ahead of us and 1 game ahead of the Spurs.
Interestingly enough, all the crap we get for playing bad ball the past couple of weeks...the Spurs and Pistons have the same record as we do in the last 10 games...7-3.
Sky ain't falling people.

great...
now the Pistons will all be on a mission to get that bad taste out of their mouth and put it into the Mav's
have they lost two in a row yet, at home?
The Mav's better be ready. That' (yet again) another great opportunity to make a statement.

I don't know if they have lost two in a row at home, but if they haven't yet, they will as of Tuesday.
