Default an objective and dis-interested mid-season evaluation of the mavs...

ok, maybe not so objective....

geez they're playing some fantastic ball and I love this team. bring it on.

dirk is playing like a man possessed.
terry is kind of sucking, but often enough finding ways to contribute.
joho and harris are progressing wonderfully.
damp is showing up weekly, if not nightly.
george is looking like a really good ad.
stack is stack, and I can live with that.
aj2 and croshere aren't any less valuable than quisy and keith van awful.
diop looks like a cleveland cavelier and that's a bit of a disappointment.
buck, one could do worse for 10-15 minutes off the bench.

they can score on the break and they can score out of half court sets. they can play a little d around the perimeter as well as down low. they knock down free throws and they rebound reasonably well. they're strong down the stretch and good under the gun. they're long and fast and they ain't stupid.

they can even sing.

they're really friggin good.

more importantly, they're playing like a team on a mission. the hunger and will is palpable, and this is friggin' fantastic.

33-8, with a strong chance to own head-head tie-breakers v the suns or the spurs

let's say that again....

33-8

they're on pace to win 66 games in a league where 50 wins is a damn fine season.

and the head coach's assessment of the team: "Fair". Avery Johnson says the team's performance thus far has just been fair, and he says this obviously because he expects them to perform much better in the next half of the season.

i'm gettin' a little wood just thinking about how good they are, but maybe that's more than you really needed to know.

cheers

Stack needs to give up singing. I heard it again today on TheTicket and the consensus was that he has nothing more than a mediocre voice and he pretty much butchered the National Anthem.

i have a tin ear and a gawdawful voice. in my book, anyone who can get through the national anthem without apologizing or vomiting is a pretty good singer.

Well, you're very easily pleased then. He wasn't God awful. But, he was much closer to bad than good.

The only reason they let Stack sing it is because he's a Mav. He won't get the job elsewhere.

His singing was less than average, but he certainly didn't butcher it. I would give that honor to Carl Lewis.

My only concern is that we are peaking too early and that we might run out of steam by the end of the season. But then, maybe the Suns have the same problem, hopefully...

btw, how annoying is it that the Suns have those monster win streaks as well?

I really don't like it when we have a wonderful season and another team spoils the party, any way to jinx the Suns into some serious losing?

If we're even with them at the end of March, we'll get the #1 seed. Look at the Suns' schedule for April.

LOL, I can live with Stack's singing.

Jet isn't that bad. His 3-pt % is rising and he's averaging 5+ apg which is an improvement.

I too am concerned about them peaking too soon.

It seems like we're all getting set up for all this joy and confidence and then the Spurs come racing in from out of nowhere or something

Come on now, let's not take a "sad if we win, sad if we lose" approach.

As long as the squad continues to take it one game at a time, they should be fine.

As far as getting worn out, remember there's a different hero every night. One day the key players will be Dirk, Devin, and Damp, the next day the difference will be Josh, Jet, and George.

IMO, the reason this will not happen is that we have Avery Johnson as our coach. Avery's competitive and mentally tough personality has become the personality of the team. I believe most, if not all players on the Mavs have somehow adopted Avery's outlook. This team is focussed and determined and Avery will keep them on track.

I have a little bit of concern about that as well. Remember the Pistons last season? sometimes starting off amazing doesn't always help you come june. Then again Pistons starters played alot, Dallas have a strong bench.

So whenever you criticize anyone that does something, surely that means that you can do that better.

If that were the case, there would almost never be a critical remark about a pro athlete on a message board when speaking about their play.

His voice is mediocre, just like most people who sing the national anthem at non-championship caliber games.

Jealous. The arena fans liked it a ton and most "objective" folks thought he did fine.

Getting worn out? The only person to worry about is dirks minutes and they are down this year the last time I looked.

Agree dirka...gotta worry about something it seems.
