just got a lot better....Derrick Alexander, formerly of hte Kansas City Chiefs, has signed on to play opposite Randy Moss. This is one fast receivers corp. Two all-pros. Alexander replaces the retired Chris Carter.

When Robert Smith retired unexpectedly it killed them. They hadn't prepared for that.

Michael Bennett could surprise this year. McKinnie should help that offensive line. Who knows?

Sean Dawkins is a good fourth receiver and former #2 D'Wayne Bates will be a nice 3rd. TE's Byron Chamberlain and Jim Kleinsasser should make the Vikes receiving corp one of the league's best. Especially when you consider that Culpepper should be pretty decent this year.

The Vikings defense last year was:
27th in the NFL in total defense
Last in the NFL in yards per attempt allowed
24th in the NFL in yards per reception allowed
25th in the NFL in pts allowed per game
I haven't enough from the vikings in the off season to show me that they could somehow move into the middle of the pack when they were clearly among the worst defenses in the NFL last year already

last season was an anomaly for the Vikes. They lost Korey Stringer and the team was in a funk all season. That defense has some good players. I just don't see them being that bad this year. There draft was slanted to defense after Bryant "Mount" McKinnie. Granted it isn't a draft class full of immediate All-Pros, but it was solid. A lot of preseason lists are featuring the Vikes this year because of the way they collapsed as a team after Stringers death. It had a huge effect on that team.

the vikings secondary isn't good..
the vikings defense isn't going to be good.
I don't buy the stringer excuse. if anything, i believed they tried to rally as a team but soon found out that they weren't that good.

That team absolutely collapsed in all three phases after Stringers death. There is no doubt about it.
