Dallas-Memphis 12 player deal including Dirk and Gasol
Here 'tis, for those of you that think we really need a low post scorer--Pau Gasol:
Dallas trades:
Dirk
Terry
Diop
Ager
Barrea
Fazekas
Dallas gets:
Gasol
Navarro
Gay
Cardinal
Stoudemire
Warrick
Dallas gets a low post scorer in Gasol, a starting 3 in Gay (Howad moves to the 2), a back up point guard in Stoudemire, a sixth man/combo guard in Navarro, a young talent in Warrick and some cap relief.
Memphis gets the MVP, Terry, a defensive center in Diop to spell Darko, and some young players that may, or may not, pan out.
Dallas gets it to get that elusive post scorer in Gasol, and completes its line up with a young swingman to compliment Howard (Gay).
Memphis does it to compete immediately with Dirk and Terry to complement Miller, Darko/Diop and Conley/Lowry.
Dallas:
Harris/Stoudemire/Navarro
Howard/Jones/Hassell
Gay/Stackhouse
Gasol/Bass/Cardinal
Dampier/Warrick
Memphis:
Conley/Lowry/Barrea
Terry/Ager
Miller/Jacobsen/Kinsey
Nowitzki/Swift
Diop/Milicic/Fazekas

Not kidding. I don't think I'd do it, but if you think the Mavs need a low post scorer to win, then I think this is as good a deal as you could ask for.

Why wouldn't you just trade Dirk and Terry for Gasol and Gay?
Well, besides that you weren't braindead...but for the purposes of this thread I was looking past that.

Ugh...
Why would either team do this?

I expected a 12-for-12 trade. This is disappointing.

No no... my dream team has Dirk and Gasol at the same time. And not because of the basketball skill.

Dallas trades:
Dirk
Howard
Terry
Harris
Stackhouse
Diop
Dampier
Fazekas
Barea
George
Jones
Bass
Ager
Hassell
San Antonio trades:
Duncan
Parker
Ginobili
Bowen
Horry
Washington
Bonner
Finley
Vaughn
Udoka
Elson
Barry
Oberto
Mahinmi
The Mavs pick up a low post scorer and some playoff toughness. The Spurs get to address their matchup problems with Dallas. It works under the salary cap.

Sorry, that's not a legal trade. Finley is barred from returning to the Mavs until is current contract runs out.
You could trade Dirk (or Dirk, Fazekas & Ager) for Gasol, Navarro (I assume he has to go with Gasol) and Gay.
That makes it simpler.

I like Devin and Josh. This trade is really Dirk and Terry for Gasol and Gay--the rest is mostly filler. The deal actually works six for three with the Mavs keeping Ager, Fazekas and Barrea--but you'd just have to cut them to get to the 15 player limit.
I like Dirk, too. I even like JET. But for years a whole lot of people say Dallas can't win without a post up scorer. That's Pau Gasol. Dallas's other major weakness is at the two. This solves that as well.
Best deal you can find to get a real post scorer.

Dirk completely owns Gasol every single time The Mavs and Grizzles play. Haven't you been paying attention? Sweep in the first round of the playoffs couple of years ago, the other night...etc... Dirk >>>>>>>>>>>>> Gasol.

Right. That's why the Mavs get Rudy Gay as part of the deal. Gay is a heckuva a player and evens the deal out--maybe.
You do know who Rudy Gay is, right?

Yes I know who Rudy Gay is, the same Rudy Gay who the Rockets dumped over to the Grizzles for the overrated Shane Battier. So? Why would you want the Grizzles roster instead of the Mavs roster? THEY'RE IN LAST PLACE! WE'RE TIED FOR FIRST!
We got Brandon Bass for low scoring and he's gonna be really good. This is the team we're going to war with, not even Kobe can blow up this team. I like our chances as we're one of the deepest teams in the league.

Therefore, we shouldn't make any moves at all. QED.
