Or he could simply score 30 and 10 on an ankle that would have 95% of the athletes in the world watching the game in a suit.
The more I think about this crap the angrier I get.

#41 is tough, bionic, fast-healing, tolerant of pain and one of the world's best displays of basketball talent night in and night out. This does not mean my favorite athlete responds to every situation in a fashion I agree with.
I don't think it's mature and/or wise that Dirk holds his face still while West pokes Dirk's face.

How awesome would it be if Dirk absoutely torched the Hornets for the rest of the series and after every bucket tapped his own cheek a couple times?
That would completely reverse the psychological pressure and make West look like a complete dumba** for awaking a sleeping giant.

i don't think dirk should have punched west or anything like that. He got up in his face. The tech on dirk was completely undeserved - and with hindsight being 20/20 and all, he should have pushed west away to at least earn the tech. but when it occurred, dirk didn't know the ridiculous double tech had been called.
but i love how keeping his head about him automatically makes dirk "weak". ridiculous.
dirk goes for 45 tonight.

Jesus turns the other cheek = strong
Dirk turns the other cheek = soft
(I don't understand this double-standard - they can both walk on water!)

BBL,
Keeping his head about him was good but at the sametime you can't just let someone come into your space and touch your face in a confrontational and demeaning manner like that without doing something.
Guys don't respect Dirk's toughness around the league. Could you imagine someone doing that to Rasheed Wallace? Kobe Bryant? Kevin Garnett? Josh Howard? Jerry Stackhouse?
Even when they're guarding Dirk they take advantage of him by playing jersey to jersey without so much of a flinch.

So what's he supposed to do?
What's he supposed to do without hurting his team, getting ejected, or getting suspended?
What?

dirkenstein - right above that, i said in hindsight, he should have done something to earn the tech.
I think just a shove would have been ok. earn the tech he actually got, and it's not a punch. but the way the refs have it in for cubes, he probably would have gotten ejected.

he could have just said "don't touch me or get your hand out of my face" he wouldn't have earned a tech for that or suppension. his knees started to shake and he froze up

"Moronic" is right - I've seen Dirk get punched in the head by Shaq without getting phased... Who is David West, again?

More than anything, Dirk's just trying to stay in the game mentally. He doesn't feel the need to try and be a true 'man' by getting up in someone's face and acting like an uneducated future wife beater. I suppose if he did beat women and have a piece on display from time to time, some idiots around the league and country would respect him more. But, because his goal is to win, he doesn't allow that crap to screw up his game.
Does anyone remember 2-3 years ago when Dirk was one of the league leaders in Technical fouls?.. He fell into the trap of griping at refs too much and getting in everyone's face that gave him a bit of a hard foul... Well, what happened was that he started to get a bit of a bad rep with officials and they became more trigger happy with the T's. Thankfully, Dirk realized that acting like an idiot (Jerry Stackhouse) doesn't really add much of anything to your team. It's much more likely to detract from your team than anything else.
Sure, there's a time and place for everything. But, once again, the better thing for Dirk to do was to concentrate on staying in the game. He was the one player holding this thing together on Friday night. The Mavs didn't need him to get taken out of the game by him either losing his cool or getting ejected.
Anyway, I'm going to go out and rob a liquor store, beat a woman with a empty bottle of crown, and smoke some dope just so that I can keep it real.

That would be so awesome. Dirk doesn't even have to go off. As long as the Mavericks advance, Dirk wins and West loses.

Sweet redemption, that would be funny, ala LBJ imitating Stevenson's signature face to hand.

wow, this is so far off base! dirk didn't even flinch. as is the idea that west got all up in dirk's face. both west and dirk stepped toward each other, neither one stepped away.

Yeah I think it would help Dirk and this Dallas team get in their heads a little.

my friend works for the team, she told me there's been so many times where dj benga used to shove dirk around back in the day. just cause he stands there and takes it from any player who punks him, i.e. swift, kenyon, st. jackson, amare, shaq, artest, etc..... doesn't make him the bigger man. it means he knows if he starts something, he will have beef. beef extends into events off the court and in social groups. dirk doesn't want beef with anyone. dirk is a wuss, hate to break your heart.
